Attemptstousethefurnacecanresultinreorexplosion.

TheKirbyAir™CompactisanAustraliandesignedandmanufacturedhigheciencygasfurnace.Beforeoperating

theunit,KirbyHVAC&Rrecommendsyoufamiliariseyourselfwiththeoperatinginstructions.

Pleaseensureyoustoretheseinstructionsinasafeplaceforfuturereference.

ShouldyouhaveanyconcernsregardingyourKirbyAir™Compactunit,pleasecontactyourinstallerorKirbyHVAC&R.

1.4. ElectronicIgnition

TheKirbyAir™Compactdoesnothaveastandingpilot.Theunitisequippedwithanenergysavingelectronicignition

devicewhichautomaticallylightstheburnerondemandwhenthethermostatcallsforheat.

NOTE: Donotmanuallylighttheburnerswithamatchofothersourceofame.

1.5. OperatingInstructions

Beforeproceeding,ensurethatthegaslinehasbeenpurgedattheunitpriortoturningthepoweron.

1. Turnthegasvalvetothe‘ON’position.

2. Turnthethermostattothe‘OFF’position.

3. Turnthepower‘ON’attheunit.

4. Turnthethermostattothe‘ON’positionandsetthetemperaturetothedesiredsetting.

5. After30-seconds,theunitwillignite.

6. Theroomairsupplyfanwilloperate30-secondsaftertheignitionhasbeenestablished.

Shouldtheunitfailtooperate,proceedtosteps7-8.

7. Turnthethermostattothe‘OFF’positionfor5-seconds.

8. Turnthethermostattothe‘ON’position.

Shouldtheunitcontinuetofailtooperate,contactyourinstallerorKirbyHVAC&RPtyLtd.

NOTE: TheKirbyAir™Compactcommunicateswiththethermostatthroughthelowvoltage(24volt)connections.

Theinstallerisobligatedtoeducatetheuseronhowtooperatethethermostatwiththenormalsequenceoftheunit

operation.

1.6. SequenceofOperation

1. Whenthethermostatisturned‘ON’,theunitcallsforheat.

2. Theunitentersaprepurgeperiodof30-secondswiththecombustionairbloweron.

3. Thedirectsparkignitorwillbeenergisedandignitethegasatoneendoftheburner.

4. Theburnerwillcross-lightandtheamesensorwilldetectthepresenceoftheameattheopposingendofthe

burner.Thedirectsparkignitorwillbede-energisedaftertheameisrecognised.

5. Thecombustionairblowerwillstartapproximately30-secondsaftertheameisestablished.

6. Theunitwillremaininoperationuntilthepresettemperatureonthethermostatisreached.

7. Oncethethermostathasbeensatised,thegasvalvewillclose,andthecombustionairblowerwillturnoffafter

approximately90-secondstocooltheheatexchanger.

8. Iftheamesensordoesnotdetectthepresenceoftheburnerame,thegasvalvewillclose.

1.7. DiagnosticConditions

WARNING: DIAGNOSTIC CONDITIONS MUST BE PERFORMED BY A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL.

Innormaloperation,agreenlightwillashcontinuouslyonthecontrolboard.Iftheunitfailstolight,removethe

accesspanelandobservethegreenindicatorlighttodiagnosethefault.

2Flashes Systemlockoutduetofailuretodetectorsustainame.

• Checktheame sensorisconnected totheboardcorrectlyandpositioned abovethe

burnerport.

4Flashes Highlimitormanualoverheatswitchopened.

• Waituntiltheautolimitcloses,orismanuallycutoff.

• Checkforobstructionsintheductandopenmoreregisters.

• Resetthemanualswitchandattemptignitionfromthethermostat.

5Flashes Flamesensedandgasvalvenotenergised.

• Checkthegasvalve

SteadyLight Internalfailure.

• Microcontrollerfailureandpoweronselfcheck

Shouldtheunitcontinuetofailtooperate,contactyourinstallerorKirbyHVAC&RPtyLtd.

1.8. ShutdownProcedure

1. Turnthethermostattothe‘OFF’position.

2. Turnoffthegasshutoffcock.Allunitsmusthaveagascockinstalledupstream,beforethegasvalveexternal

totheunit.

3. Turnoffelectricalpowersupplytotheunit,ensuringthecombustionairblowerhasturnedoffpriortodoingso.

1.9. PowerFailure

Shouldthepowerfailureoccurwhiletheunitisinoperation,thegascontrolwillautomaticallyswitchoffthemain

burners.Noheatingwillbeavailableuntilpowerisrestored.Onrestorationofpower,theunitwillautomatically

restartshouldthethermostatcallforheat.

NOTE: Foryoursafety,inextendedperiodsofpoweroutage,ensurethethermostatisturnedtothe‘OFF’position.

1.10. ThermostatOperation

NOTICE: A THERMOSTAT IS NOT INCLUDED AND MUST BE ORDERED SEPARATELY.

Installthethermostataccordingtotheinstructionsfurnishedwithit.Selectalocationonaninsidewallandnot

subjecttodrafts,directsunshineorotherheatsources.

OncetheKirbyAir™Compacthasbeeninitiallystarted,theunitmaybecontrolledfromthethermostattosetthelevel

ofheatortoshutdownasrequired.

• Foradigitalthermostat,setthetemperaturedesiredtocallforheat.

• Foraprogrammablethermostat,followtheinstructionsprovidedwiththethermostattosettheprogramofyour

choicetocontroltheautomaticoperation,timingandtemperatureoftheunit.

1.11. AbnormalOperation

Shouldanyofthefollowingcircumstancesoccur,ceaseusingtheunitandcontactyourinstallerorgasauthority

immediately:

• Smellofgasfumes;unusualodours,smokeorfumesfromoutletregisters.

• Excessiveorunusualnoiseemanatingfromtheunit.

1.12. Maintenance

TheKirbyAir™Compacthasbeendesignedforlowmaintenanceforthelifeoftheunit.Untrainedpersonnelcan

performbasicmaintenancefunctions,suchascleaningandreplacingreturnairlters,iftted.Filtersshouldbe

removedforcleaningatregularintervals,ideallyeachmonthduringheatingseason.Ablockedlterwillrestrict

airowandpossiblyoverheattheheatexchangerandmotorwindings,subsequentlyaffectingtheperformanceand

lifespanoftheunit.

NOTE: Theuseofltersonthesupplyairregisterswillrestrictthesupplyairductingandoverheattheheatexchanger,

leadingtoareducedlifespanoftheunitandsubsequentlyvoidingthemanufacturerswarranty.However,regularly

maintainedltersmaybeinstalledonthereturnairgrill.

1.13. Service

WARNING: SERVICE INSPECTIONS MUST BE PERFORMED BY A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL.

KirbyHVAC&RPtyLtdrecommendstheKirbyAir™Compactisservicedatleastonceeverytwoyears.Thisserviceis

notincludedinthewarrantyoftheunit.

KirbyHVAC&RPtyLtdrecommendsthefollowingstepsbeundertakenpriortoservice:

• Theunitispluggedintothepowerpoint,withcorrectpolarity,andisswitchedon.

• Themanualshutoffvalveonthegaspipelineleadingtotheunitisopen.

• Allairregistergrillesareopenandfreeofobstructions.

• Thethermostatisconnectedtotheunitandispresettothedesiredtemperature.

Alicensedprofessionalshouldinspectthefollowingaspectsoftheunittoensurecontinuedoperationalperformance:

• Fluepassages

• Combustionperformance

• Ventilationairpassagesandopenings

• Burnerandfancondition
