Dear Customer,

First of all we wish to thank you for the trust placed in us by purchasing one of our products. Please read and carefully follow

the advice given in this installation, use and maintenance manual in order make best use of the product.

Make sure:

-that installation, testing and annual cleaning are carried out by a authorised technician

otherwise the warranty will be void.

-that the flue is checked by a authorised technician;

For operating faults, doubts or problems please contact your nearest service centre.

1.2 Safety rules

-Read and follow the instructions in the installation, use and maintenance manual.

-The heating stove must not be used without being connected to the heating water system and without

water in the heating chamber.

-Connect the stove to a flue in conformity with the regulations and not shared by other appliances.

-Make sure the stove is cold before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance.

Warning: higher settings or settings other than those indicated here could cause irreparable damage to the structure of the

cooker.

1.3.3 Oven bypass damper

Fig.1 Oven bypass open

Fig.2 Oven bypass close

The Thermostat

(B)

controls the flow of incoming co

mbustion air and thereby

automatically regulates the firebox water temperature between 0 and 70 °C.

With the thermostat set to zero and the secondary air flow control closed, the

range cooker fire will tend to go out due to a lack of combustion air.

When the thermostat is set to position , the combustion air flow is controlled in

such a way as to maintain the firebox water at a constant temperature of 70°C.

1.3.2 Thermostat

The oven bypass control lever is located above the oven door. When the lever

is pushed towards the inside of the cooker (fig.1), the flue gases flow over the

oven and under the hotplate towards the flue outlet (position recommended

when lighting the cooker). Pulling the lever towards the front of cooker (fig. 2)

forces the flue gases to circulate around the oven, thereby increasing the oven

temperature uniformly (position recommended during normal operation).

1.3.1 Secondary air f ow contro

Combustion air flow is regulated by way of t

he control

(E)

located on the

ash door (D). Only when lighting the cooker, extra combustion air can be

obtained by leaving the ash door open; (warning: during normal operation

the ash door must remain closed).

When the control is set to position 3, corresponding to maximum

combustion air flow, the range cooker reaches its rated heat output.

The secondary air flow control must be set to zero (closed) when

combustion is controlled with the thermostat

(B).

Johanna Comby2

1.3.4 F ue pipe connection co ar

The flue pipe connection collar is located on the top of the range cooker at the right.

1.3.5 Fire door and ash pan

The doors are opened by turning the handles; when the range cooker is in operation, it is advisable to use the protective

glove supplied to open the fire door and the oven door.

The secondary air flow control (E)is integrated in the ash door .

1.3.6 Hotp ate

The cast iron hotplate of the range cooker is designed for cooking. In the hot zone of the hotplate there is a series of

concentric rings . These rings can be removed using the poker supplied.

1.4 Permitted and prohibited fuels

Permitted fuels are natural wood logs, dry and free of resin (beech, oak and birch), 20-2 cm long. The wood should be

seasoned for at least two years; a maximum moisture content of 20%, is recommended in order to ensure combustion

without excessive smoke and soot.

Do not use:

-coal dust;

-small pieces of wood (only permitted as kindling);

-bark and wood shavings;

-general waste;

-treated paper and cardboard;

-wood treated with preservative.

The burning of waste is prohibited under European and National law.

The gases produced by combustion of unsuitable materials may cause damage to the stove and the flue, as well

as seriously harm your health.

The use of any fuel that does not not comply with the above indications shall void the warranty.

1.5 Accessories

Your TERMOJOHANNA range cooker is supplied with the following accessories:

-Instruction manual

-Poker

-Protective glove

-2 oven shelves

-Wrench for lifting the grate

-Blanking plugs.

The control panel can be installed on the cooker or in a remote location,

such as, for example, on the wall of another room in the building.

In the latter case, it will be necessary for a technician authorised by the manufacturer

to install an electrical connection between the cooker and the control panel.

The cooker is supplied with blanking plugs and a support to be applied to the cooker in place of the control panel.

1.6 Reference standards

UNI 10683/98: standard specifying installation requirements for wood fired heating appliances and cookers, including stoves

with natural and forced draught with heat outputs <3 kW.

EN 12815: European standard Norme for cookers fired by solid fuel, containing requirements for design, fabrication,

construction, safety and performance , instructions and markings, together with the relative homologation test methods.

Standards EN 60335-1 and EN 50165: standards regarding electrical equipment on non-electric appliances.

Johanna Comby2

1.9 Disposal of the cooker

For disposal, the cooker must be sealed inside strong packing; contact your local authority for information on how to

proceed in accordance with applicable local regulations.

Johanna Comby2

2 – INSTALLATION

Under no circumstances may the range cooker be used without connection to the

centra heating system.

2.1 General instructions

The range cooker must be installed in accordance with local regulations. Observe also the following general rules: maintain

a minimum clearance of 20 cm between the cooker and combustible or easily combustible materials; if the floor is made

from combustible material (wood, carpet, etc.), the cooker must be placed on a protective base; your installer will be able to

advise you on the dimensions of this base

Set the stove down on the floor carefully without jolting and position it in required place. Make sure the floor can support the

weight of the stove, otherwise consult a specialised technician.

2.2 Positioning and fire-prevention

To prevent the risk of fire, the structures surrounding the cooker must be protected from heat. For example, floors in wood or

combustible material must be suitably protected with steel plate or toughened glass. If the flue passes underneath or

through any wooden beams or boards, these must be protected with fireproof material.

2.3 Connection to the flue

The Johanna range cooker is to be connected to a chimney by way of the flue collar on the hotplate and

commercially-available flue pipes. Connection to the chimney must be made using sturdy, stable pipes, with a

recommended minimum wall thickness of 1.5-2 mm. The flue pipe connecting the cooker to the chimney should

be as straight and as direct as possible to prevent loss of draught. The joints at either end of the flue connection

pipe must be effectively sealed.

When the cooker is operating at the rated output, the flue draught should be between 10 and 14 Pa.

For maximum cooker efficiency, a draught restrictor or damper should be installed in the flue pipe or chimney.

Each appliance must vent its combustion gases through its own flue; two or more appliances must never share

the same flue.

2.4 Ventilation

The quantity of air required for combustion is drawn from the room in which the range cooker is installed, either through the

opening in the ash door or the inlet controlled by the thermostat, and directed to the combustion zone; it is therefore

necessary to ensure that the air change rate of the room in which the cooker is installed is sufficient to ensure optimal

combustion. Air openings or vents connecting the room to outdoors must be provided to ensure adequate ventilation even

when the doors and windows are closed. A lack of combustion air will impair the flue draught, thus compromising the

operating safety of the cooker. The quantity of combustion air required by the Johanna range cooker is estimated at around

30 m3/hour.

The operation of any air extraction device (e.g. fume extractor hood) in the vicinity of the cooker may create a condition of

negative pressure in the room, with the consequent leakage of combustion gases from stove when the fire door is opened to

load wood.

2.5 Advice on flues and connections

Flues and chimneys must be constructed of suitable materials and properly insulated to prevent heat loss.

The inner walls must be perfectly smooth, with no restrictions or protrusions along the entire length so as to avoid the

creation of friction and vortices in the smoke with a consequent loss of draught.

The doors of all cleaning and inspection access points must properly closed when the cooker is in operation.

The chimney outlet must be 0. m higher than any obstacle located within a 10 m radius and must terminate in a cowl or pot

with a cross-sectional area at least twice that of the flue.

The two diagrams below give the positioning and clearance data for chimney cowls as prescribed by UNI 10683/98.
