1.Use, scope of supply,

accessories

General information concerning the proper

use of the equipment –please read this

section carefully!

This manual is intended for the machine

operator. Keep this manual accessible at all

times.

Use the trimmer only:

in a perfect technical state, in line with the

intended use, in consideration of all of the

safety- and hazard-relevant aspects,

with all the safety devices attached,

in compliance with the safety instructions,

after the operating personnel have read

and understood these instructions,

particularly Chapter 3 Safety Instructions

and Chapter 4 Connection and Startup.

1.2 Intended use

The EFA Trimmer is used to process pieces of

meat and other food. The EFA trimmer must not

be used to process frozen food.

Trimmersfrom Schmid &Wezel (S & W) comply

with the relevant safety regulations.

1.3 Improper use

The machine is not equipped for a different type

of use. If the operator wishes to use the device

for other purposes, please consult Schmid &

Wezel GmbH (S&W) in advance.

For all other types of use that are not in line with

the intended use, the user must be advised of

the inherent accident hazard and increased

wear. In the event of non-compliance, the

liability shall be borne by the user alone.

The trimmer can be hazardous if it is used by

untrained persons, in an improper manner, or

for purposes that are not in line with the

intended use.

1.4 Residual risks

The sharp blade of the trimmer cancause injury.

Remain focused and act with caution when

working with the trimmer. Always wear personal

protective equipment.

A faulty compressed air connection and a high

proportion of water in the pressure line may

cause a jet of water escaping at the connection

point. Therefore, ensure that the hose

connection is correct and that the water content

in the pressure line is as low as possible (drain

the water separator regularly). The water trap

doesnot form part of the machine and has to be

installed upline of the machine.

1.5 Who may operate the trimmer

Only trained, instructed, and authorized

individuals over the age of 16 may operate the

trimmer. The responsibilities and competences

concerning the operation must be clearly

defined and complied with.

The trimmer must not be operated by

individuals who are under the influence of

alcohol, medication, or drugs.

Maintenance and repairs require special skills

and knowledge, which is why only specialized

persons who have been trained accordingly are

authorized to perform these tasks.

1.6 Conversions and modifications

on the trimmer

Unauthorized modifications to the trimmer are

not permitted for safety reasons.

Spare parts and accessories have been

specially developed for the trimmer. We

expressly point out that we only accept spare

parts and special designs supplied by us.

Installation and / or use of unauthorized

products may have a negative impact on active

and passive safety

Schmid & Wezel GmbH accepts no liability for

damage caused using non-original spare parts

or special designs.

Modifications and alterations to the machine are

not permitted and exempt S&W from any

warranty and liability.

store them in a place where they are

accessible to everyone at all times.

Only specialized persons are authorized to

perform any installation, maintenance, or

repair tasks.

3.2 Conduct at the workplace

Keep your workplace tidy and in good

working condition. A cluttered or messy

workplace can lead to accidents.

Take into account environmental

influences. Ensure good lighting (min. 500

lux).

Keep other persons away from your

workplace. Remain focused and act with

caution during your work.

Do not use the trimmer when you are tired

and/or unfocused.

Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewelry

that can be caught by moving parts. Wear

sturdy shoes during your work. Always

wear a hairnet!

Ensure that your workplace has a correct,

ergonomic set-up. Ensure safe footing and

keep your balance at all times.

Store the trimmer in a safe manner.

Electric version:

Hook unused devices into the holder and

secure them against unintentional restart.

Pneumatic version:

Store the device with the blade facing

downwards in a protected location and

secure against unintentional restart.

Service your tools with care. Only use

sharp and undamaged blades to ensure

safe work.

Use only original EFA accessories. Use of

other accessories will void the warranty.

The use of other tool inserts or

accessories presents a risk of injury to you

and other persons.

4.Connection and start-up

4.1 Place of work

The work space for the operator should be at

least 1.5 sqm.

No other place of work should extend into this

area as movements with the trimmer could

result in the risk of injury.

The illumination at the place of work must be at

least 500 lux.

4.2 Installation

CAUTION

Danger due to automatic start!

Connect the trimmer to the power

supply or compressed air supply

only when switched off!

CAUTION

Tripping hazard!

Lay the flexible shaft outside the

traffic area.

Attach the electric motor to the

ceiling suspension. Comply with the

minimum load bearing capacity of 15

kg.

Lay compressed air lines outside of

the working area.

CAUTION

Danger of malfunctions and

injuries!

Installation work may only be carried

out by authorized specialist

personnel.

The trimmer is supplied ready for operation.

The motor of the electric trimmer also serves as

a support for the trimmer when not in use.

4.2.1 Connecting the electric trimmer

(EFA Trimmer 90E and EFA Trimmer 130E)

Select the location of use of the trimmer so that

the power cable of the electric motor can be laid

upwards without any risk of kinking.

1. Attach the electric motor to the overhead

suspension system

ATTENTION

Device damage!

Comply with the minimum load

bearing capacity of 15 kg

2. Setting up an ergonomic workplace:

The following illustration shows the optimum

distances as determined by S&W.

It may be necessary to adapt these values to

your specific workplace situation.

4.2.2 Connecting the shaft to the motor

1. Insert the hose sleeve (2) of the flexible

shaft into the motor (1)

2. Pull the bushing (3) downwards until the

hose sleeve (2) can be pushed in further

into the trimmer (2)

2. Press the locking plate (3) and insert the

tappet (1) further until the plug connection

4. Pull slightly in order to check whether the

shaft is properly locked and protected

against accidental disconnection

The trimmer is now ready for use.

4.2.4 Connecting the pneumatic trimmer

(EFA Trimmer 90D and EFA Trimmer 130D)

ATTENTION

Device damage!

Operate the trimmer only with clean,

anhydrous, and oiled air!

Pneumatic hose connection

1. Insert the pneumatic hose (1) into the

screw connection (2) on the valve housing

(3) of the trimmer up to the stop.

2. Pass the exhaust hose (4) through union

nut (5) and slide it onto the valve housing

of the trimmer.

3. Screw the union nut to the valve housing

of the trimmer.

4. Screw one-hand coupling (6) (with sealing

ring) into maintenance unit (7) (with filter

pressure reducer). Make sure to assemble

the maintenance unit in the following order:

Water separator (8), pressure gauge (9),

oil mist blower (10).

5. Insert plug nipple (11) into coupling

To ensure lubrication of the pneumatics motor,

the maintenance unit must be set to 1-2 drops

of oil per minute (or one drop of oil for

approximately 15 cuts).

A faulty compressed air connection and a high

proportion of water in the compressed air may

cause water to escape at the connection point.

Therefore, ensure that the hose connection is

correct and that the water content in the

compressedair is low(drain thewater separator

regularly).

If no dried air is available, the customer must

install a water absorber.

4.2.5 Filter pressure reducer

The air from compressed-air systems is usually

contaminated and has accumulated moisture.

Therefore, a filter pressure reducer with water

separator must be installed between the

compressed air system and the tool. This not

only controls the operating pressure but cleans

and drains the compressed air. In addition, this

improves on the usefulness and increases the

service life of the pneumatic trimmer

significantly.

The filter pressure reducer should be installed

as close as possible to the pneumatic trimmer.

Set the operating pressure on the filter

pressure reducer to max. 6 bar.

4.3 Preparing the trimmer for use

4.3.1 Installing depth stop and

sharpening head

Depth stop, and sharpening head are optional

accessories and may need to be mounted on

the trimmer before use,

1. Remove screws (1) on the gearbox cover

(2) and retain.

2. Remove gearbox cover (2)

Thedepth stop guarantees a uniform

thickness during cutting.

The sharpening head sharpens the

blade during operation.

3. Install depth stop (3) and sharpening head

(4) to the trimmer instead of the gearbox

cover using the screws (1)

4.3.2 Setting the depth stop

1. Loosen the locknut (1)

2. Set the desired cutting depth by turning the

star screw (2)

(Turning to the left = reduce cutting depth.

Turning to the right = increase cutting depth)

3. Secure the setting by tightening the

locknut (1)

4.3.3 Installing the sharpening head

The sharpening head is also available without

depth stop.
