Safety

• The radio should not be taken apart or modiﬁed. Certain non-shielded

components inside thecasing of theradio carry dangerous current. Contact with

these can lead to ﬁre or electric shock.

• The radio is intended for indoor useonly.

• Never subject theradio to high temperature, dust, heavy vibration, impacts,

humidity or moisture.

• Do not place theradio in anunstable position where there is arisk that it may

fall into water or other liquids. Donot place any objects containing liquid onto

theradio, e.g. ﬂower vases or drinks.

• Do not cover theradio. Adequate ventilation with adistance of at least 10 cm

between ventilation holes and thesurrounding area is necessary to prevent

theradio from becoming toowarm.

• Disconnect theradio from thepower supply by unplugging themains adapter from

thewall socket.

• Protect your hearing. Listening on high volume for prolonged periods can lead to

permanent hearing loss.

• Repairs and service should only be performed by qualiﬁed tradesmen, and only

with original spareparts.

• The radio must not be dismantled or modiﬁed in anyway.

• Only use thesupplied mains adapter.

• The radio must not be used close to medical equipment such as in intensive

care units. It should not be used in close proximity to someone with animplanted

pacemaker, cardioverter-deﬁbrillator or similar.

Operating instructions

Placement

The radio should be placed on aﬂat surface indoors where it is not in direct sunlight or

close to aheat source, and not in ahumid atmosphere such as in abathroom.

Switching the radio on for the first time

1. Makesure thepower switch (11) is set to theOFF position.

2. Completely extend thetelescopic aerial and lift it up. Itis important that optimum

reception is achieved theﬁrst time theradio is used and scans for DAB and FM

stations.

3. Plugthecable from themains adapter into the“DC 5 V” socket (15) on theback of

theradio.

4. Plugthemains adapter into awall socket.

5. Set the power switch (11) to ON to switch the radio to standby mode. “Welcome

to Digital Radio” will appear on the display.

6. Press [ ] (3) to switch the radio on. Theradio will automatically begin searching

for DAB stations. “Full Scanning” will appear on thedisplay and anevent indicator

will show that searching is in progress and the number of stations have been

detected. Whenthescan has ﬁnished, theradio will start playing theﬁrst station

found. Ifno DAB stations are found “NODAB Station” will appear on thedisplay.

7. AlltheDAB stations found will be saved in thememory, next time theradio is

switched on it will not need to perform anautomatic scan. However, amanual

station search can be made by pressing [SCAN] (4) whilst in DABmode.

Turning the radio on/off

From now on [ ] (3) can be used to switch theradio on/off.

Setting the time and date

Automatic setting

The ﬁrst time you listen to theDAB radio, thetime and date will automatically be

synchronised to a 24-hour clock display calibrated to summer time (only applicable if DAB

is received).

Manual setting

Basicsetup

1. Press[MENU] (6), “Alarm” appears on thedisplay.

2. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to theright to scroll to Time. Pressthemultifunction

knob in to conﬁrm.

3. “Set 12/24 hour” will appear on thedisplay. Pressin themultifunction knob toconﬁrm.

4. “Set 12/24 hour” will appear on thedisplay.

5. Turnthemultifunction knob to select either Set 12 hour or Set 24 hour. Pressin

themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

Setting thetime

1. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to theright to scroll to Set Time/Date. Pressin

themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

2. “Set time” will appear on thedisplay and thehour digits will ﬂash.

Turnthemultifunction knob to adjust thehours. Pressin themultifunction knob (1)

to conﬁrm thesetting. Usethesame procedure for setting theminutes. Pressin

themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

Setting thedate

1. “Set Date” appears on thedisplay. Setthedate, month and year in thesame way

as you did thetime.

2. Oncethedate setting has been made, press themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

“Time Saved” will appear when thesetting has been made andsaved.

Changing thedate format

1. Press[MENU] (6).

2. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to theright to scroll to Time. Pressin

themultifunction knob (1) to conﬁrm.

3. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) and select Set date format. Pressin themultifunction

knob (1) to conﬁrm. Selecteither DD–MM–YYYY or MM–DD–YYYY by turning

themultifunction knob. Pressthemultifunction knob into conﬁrm.

Update thetime setting automatically from DAB stations in thesame way (in “Time”

mode). SelectAuto update and then press themultifunction knob (1) in to begin

anautomatic update of thetime (only applicable if DAB is received).

Inserting batteries

1. Makesure that themains adapter is disconnected from both thewall socket and

theradio.

2. Removethebattery cover by sliding it in thedirection of thearrow.

3. Insert4×AA/LR6 batteries (sold separately). Observe thepolarity markings in

thebattery compartment.

4. Reﬁtthebattery cover.

Note: Ifthere are no batteries in theradio, all thesettings must be made again if

themains adapter is unplugged or theradio is switched off using thepower switch(11).

Adjusting the backlight duration

1. Press[MENU] (6).

2. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to scroll to Backlight. Pressin themultifunction

knob to conﬁrm.

3. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to scroll to thedesired function in thesubmenu.

4. Choose thelength of time thebacklight is to stay on for: ON (always on) – 10, 20,

30, 45, 60, 90, 120 or 180 seconds.

5. Pressin themultifunction knob to conﬁrm your selection.

Selecting the mode of the radio

Select one of the following radio modes: DAB, FM, AUX or Bluetooth.

Press [MODE] (5) repeatedly to select:

• DAB+ − listen to DABradio.

• FM − listen to FMradio.

• Auxiliary Input − listen to anexternal audio source connected to theAUX IN

socket(14).

• Bluetooth − listen to a wirelessly connected Bluetooth audio source.

DAB Radio

DAB - Digital Audio Broadcasting

DAB radio is not thesame as analogue radio. InDAB mode, thesignals from several

broadcasters are combined and sent on thesame frequency. Thesegroups of signals

are called Multiplexes and Ensembles. Eachtime agroup has been found, its name

appears at thebottom of thedisplay.

DAB mode - secondary services

Sometimes, a“>” symbol can be seen after thename of astation. Thisindicates that

thestation has asecondary service. Thissecondary service could be in theform of

asports commentary for example.

Listening to DAB radio

Activate DAB mode

1. Press[MODE] (5) repeatedly until “DAB+ mode” appears on thedisplay.

2. Whentheradio is turned on for theﬁrst time it automatically enters DAB mode and

performs anautoscan. Duringscanning, “Full Scanning” appears on thedisplay

and thenumber of stations detected is also displayed.

3. Whenthescan is complete, theradio starts playing thestation with thelowest

frequency.

4. Ifno DAB stations are found “NO DAB Station” will appear on thedisplay.

Activation of automatic scanning for DAB radio stations

1. Press[SCAN] (4) to initiate ascan or press [MENU] (6) and turn themultifunction

knob (1) to scroll to Full Scan. Pressin themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

2. “Scanning” is shown on thedisplay whilst scanning is in progress.

3. Whenstations are found they are saved automatically. Tolisten to asaved

station, turn themultifunction knob (1) to thedesired station. Thenpress in

themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

Note: Scanning can take up to 1–2 minutes.

Saving a found DAB radio station as a preset

The radio can save up to 10 different DAB radio stations as presets. DAB presets are

not saved over FM presets.

Save aDAB radio station as follows (in DABmode):

1. Setthedesired station on theradio.

2. Holdin [Preset] (7), “Preset Store 1” will appear on thedisplay.

3. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to select which preset number thestation is to have

(1–10). If there is already astation saved on preset 1, its name and frequency will

be displayed, if no station has previously been saved as preset 1, “Empty” will

appear on thedisplay.

4. Pressin themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

5. “Preset X stored” will appear on thedisplay to conﬁrm that thestation has

beensaved.

Note: Ifapreviously saved station already occupies thechosen preset slot it will be

replaced by thenewone.

Browsing the saved DAB radio stations (in DAB mode)

1. Press[Preset] (7).

2. “Preset Recall 1” and its saved station name and frequency will appear on

thedisplay. Ifno station has previously been saved as preset 1, “Empty” will

appear on thedisplay.

3. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to browse thestations saved as presets 1–10.

4. Pressin themultifunction knob to conﬁrm your selection. Note:Theradio might

become silent for amoment whilst thestations are changing.

DAB display information

By pressing [INFO] (2) repeatedly, you can display thefollowing information:

• Time/Date – Thetime and date are set automatically.

• Channel/Frequency – Thefrequency is displayed as for example “11C 220.352MHz”.

• Audio Bite Rate: Thedisplay shows theradio mode (DAB) and thedigital audio bit

rate of thecurrent reception.

• Signal Strength: Thesignal strength is displayed graphically.

• DLS (Dynamic Label Segmenting): Textfrom theDAB station to which you

are listening. The information can for example include facts about thesongs

beingplayed.

• PTY (Programme Type): shows which type of programme you are listening to,

“Rock”, “Pop”, “News” etc. Ifthere is no information, thetext “Programme Type” is

displayed.

• Multiplex name: Thisis agroup of radio stations sent on thesame frequency.

Thereare both national and local multiplexes. Thelocal ones contain stations

speciﬁc for yourarea.

• Signal error: Showsthequality of signal on ascale of 0–99. Itis normally possible

to listen to asignal with aquality higher than30.

Manual search for DAB radio stations (only in DAB mode)

It is possible to tune into a speciﬁc station/frequency manually and add it to your list

of stations. This facility can be used for attaining the optimum reception for a speciﬁc

station/frequency.

1. Press [MENU] (6) to enter the menu.

2. Turn the multifunction knob (1) to scroll to the “Manual tune”. Press in

themultifunction knob to conﬁrm.

3. Turn the multifunction knob (1) to scroll to the desired station/frequency.

4. Press the multifunction knob in, a rectangle will appear on the second row of the

display. The rectangle indicates the strength of the signal (the stronger the signal,

the further the rectangle is to the right).

5. Extend and adjust the aerial to get the best signal strength.

6. Press in the multifunction knob to conﬁrm.

FM radio

• Completely extend thetelescopic aerial and lift it up so it is vertical. Thisis important

in order to get thebest reception when theradio is scanning for FM stations.

• Once theradio is switched on, it will start playing thesame programme it was set

to when it was last switched off.

• In FM mode, RDS (Radio Data System) can be received and shown on thedisplay.

RDS information is sent from thestation. Itcould be thename of thestation,

details about theprogramme and current time.

Activating FM mode

1. Press[MODE] (5) repeatedly until “FM mode” appears on thedisplay. TheFM

radio frequency will appear on thedisplay.

2. Toactivate autoscan for thenext station, press and release [SCAN] (4).

3. Theradio will now start scanning. “Scanning...” is shown on thedisplay whilst

scanning is in progress. Thescan stops automatically when astation has

beenfound.

4. Thefrequency can be ﬁne tuned by turning themultifunction knob (1).

Saving a found FM radio station as a preset

The radio can save up to 10 different FM radio stations as presets. FM presets are not

saved over DAB presets.

FM radio stations are saved as follows:

1. Tunetheradio into thedesired station.

2. Holdin [Preset] (7), “Preset Store 1” will appear on thedisplay.

3. Turnthemultifunction knob (1) to select which preset number thestation is to

have(1–10).

FM display information

By pressing [INFO] (2) repeatedly, you can display thefollowing information:

• Time.

• Date.

• RT (radio text): Scrolling text from thestation.

• PTY (Programme Type): shows which type of programme you are listening to,

“Rock”, “Pop”, “News” etc. Ifthere is no information, thetext “Programme Type” is

displayed.

• Station name.

• Auto (Mono) or (Stereo): Automatic switching between mono and stereo reception,

thecurrent setting isshown.

Activating AUX mode (external audio source)

1. Press[MODE] (5) repeatedly until “Auxiliary Input” appears on thedisplay.

2. Connect anexternal audio source to AUX IN (14) using asuitable cable with

a3.5mm stereo plug.

3. Playback is controlled from theexternal audio source. Adjustthevolume on both

theexternal audio device and theradio to achieve thebest sound quality.

Activate Bluetooth

1. Selecting an audio source: Press [MODE] (5) repeatedly until “Bluetooth” appears

on the display.

2. Make sure that no other Bluetooth device is connected to the radio. “No Connection”

will appear on the display.
