SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS

Do not work inside the

equipment unless totally

familiar with electrical

circuits.

Hazardous voltage which can

shock exists inside the equip-

ment.

Turn off the power at the

mains switchboard before

beginning the installation.

Post a sign near the switch

to indicate it should not be

turned on while the equip-

ment is being installed.

Fire or electrical shock can

result if the power is left on or

is applied while the equip-

ment is being installed.

WARNING

Install the display unit and transceiver

unit where they will not be exposed to

water splash or rain.

Fire or electrical shock can result if water

leaks inside those units.

Ensure no water leaks through the

mounting location for the transducer.

The ship may sink if water leaks through the

mounting location. Check the location care-

fully at installation.

The retraction tank should be con-

structed of the specified material and

installed in accordance with the pro-

cedures set forth in this manual. Use of

other material or procedure is the

responsibility of the shipyard. In any

case the tank should be installed so

the hull will not be seriously damaged

in the event the tank is struck by an

object.

CAUTION

Use the proper fuse.

Use of a wrong fuse can result in fire or

permanent equipment damage.

Replace zinc block near the transducer

yearly.

If not replaced corrosion between trans-

ducer and main shaft may result.

Do not exceed speed noted in the speci-

fications when operating the equipment

or lowering or raising the transducer.

The transducer may become damaged.

Ground the equipment to

prevent mutual interference.

POSSIBILITY OF INJURY

1. If breaker (hull unit) trips do the

following:

1) Turn off power swich on hull unit.

2) Wait 60 sec after breaker has tripped.

3) Press breaker.

2. Turn off hull unit before using hand

crank.

WARNING

POSSIBILITY OF WATER LEAKAGE

To prevent loss of main shaft of the hull

unit and water leakage tighten bolts fixing

shaft retainer for torque of 2000-2500 N•

cm and tighten fastening band for torque

600-800 N•cm.

MOUNTING

1.1 General Mounting and Handling Considerations

• Be sure the power supply matches equipment voltage rating. Improper power supply will

damage the equipment.

• Locate the transducer where the affects of noise and air bubbles are minimal. Noise and air

bubbles will affect performance.

• When selecting a mounting location keep the following points in mind:

• Keep equipment out of direct sunlight.

• Keep equipment away from air conditioner.

• The useable temperature range of the display unit is 0°–50°C.

• Provide sufficient ventilation.

• Select location where vibration is minimal.

• Locate the equipment away from magnets and magnetic materials.

• Keep the transducer away from oil. Oil can corrode the cable.

• Do not expose the transducer to hot water. Hot water can damage the transducer.

• Do not turn on the equipment with the transducer exposed to air. Exposing the transducer to

air may damage it.

• Magnetic compass performance will be affected if it is placed too close the display unit.

Observe the compass safe distances shown below to prevent deviation of a magnetic com-

pass.

1.2 Mounting the Hull Unit

Location

Discussion and agreement are required with the dockyard and ship owner in deciding the loca-

tion for the hull unit. When deciding the location, take into account the following points:

• Select an area where propeller noise, cruising noise, bubbles and interference from turbu-

lence are minimal. Generally, the point at 1/3 to 1/2 of the ship’s length from the bow or near

the keel is the best. On-the-keel installation is advantageous for minimizing oil consumption

in comparison with off-the-keel. If the hull unit cannot be installed on the keel, the center of

the retraction tank should be within 1 meter of the keep to prevent a rolling effect.

1/2 1/3 Within 1 m

Figure 1-1 Installation location for hull unit

• Select a place where interference from the transducers of other sounding equipment is mini-

mal.The hull unit should be at least 2.5 meters away from the transducers of other sounding

equipment.

• An obstacle in the fore direction not only causes a shadow zone but also aerated water,

resulting in poor sonar performance. Be sure to locate the transducer well away from any

obstacle in the fore direction.

• The following space is required around the hull unit for wiring and maintenance. If the

transducer is to be operated in ambient temperature below 0°C, the sonar compartment must

be provided with a heater to keep the temperature above 0°C.

Installation of the retraction tank

The retraction tank is 1000 mm in length as supplied. Shorten the tank referring to the table

below so the transducer fully protrudes beyond the keel when it is lowered. Refer to pages D-1

to D-6 for details.
