1. INTRODUCTION
1.1.1 Purpose of the document
This document is a uide to the installation, confi uration, and commissionin of the GE552Y052, code
GE552Y052, hereinafter referred to as GE552Y052. This document is intended for technical personnel with
an avera e knowled e of electrical en ineerin , IT, basic TCP/IP principles, and M-Bus systems.
The GE552Y052 has an embedded webserver and is a datalo in and consumption monitorin system for
heatin and coolin systems equipped with meters that communicate usin the M-Bus and wireless M-Bus
868MHz protocol.
Please read carefully the following notes
•Place the system Firewall undercovered and isolate it from the corporate network
•For remote access to the machine, we recommend the use of secure technolo ies such as Virtual
Private Networks (VPNs), reco nizin VPN in the most secure way to connect to the device
The first section of this uide is dedicated to the description of the technical specifications of the
GE552Y052 and its commissionin . We will describe how to commission the plant, scannin and addin
meters. Then, we will describe the advanced confi uration via web interface and, finally, how to enerate
consumption reports and plans.

GE552Y052 is a hardware device with no movin parts, made in compliance with industrial standards,
which can be DIN-rail mounted inside an electrical panel. The main technical specifications of the device are

3.1.1 Description of the GE552 052

4. GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE SYSTEM
4.1.1 Overview of the system
GE552Y052 is a consumption monitorin and meterin system based on a standard wired M-Bus
communication protocol (EN13757-2 [Physical Layer], EN13757-3 [Application Layer] and wireless M-Bus
868MHz ((EN13757-4[Physical Layer], EN13757-3 [Application Layer]). All the meters that use this
communication protocol can be connected and will be mana ed by the system with all the functions it
features.

GE552Y052 can mana e up to a maximum of 500 meters, maximum 250 wired. GE552Y052 has an
inte rated communication port that supports up to 20 M-Bus meters. It is possible to extend the number of
wired connected meters (up to 250) throu h the use of level converter (reference code in GIACOMINI
catalo : GE552Y050) with inte rated repeater functionality (see Fi .2 ). A sin le level converter is able to
mana e up to a maximum of 60 M-Bus nodes. If in the system there were more than 20 M-Bus nodes to
mana e with the same GE552Y052 one or more level converter in repeater mode can be used. For Wireless
M-Bus devices, it is necessary to use one or more smart antennas GE552Y053, they are able to receive
si nals received by the wireless M-Bus meters that communicate with this protocol and send these si nals
to the GE552Y052 , which performs data lo in . The advanta e of this architecture is the ability to extend
the network of repeater up to very lar e areas. In effect, the cover is creatin in a completely automatic
and transparent to the operator, a radio network that connects all repeaters with the GE552Y052, in the
case where a radio is out of ran e (too far or with obstacles) to the GE552Y052, this will seek to achieve the
GE552Y052 throu h another antenna, as the mesh networks. This network, dynamic, is reconfi ured
automatically whenever is necessary. For example, in the case where a new obstacle is interposed between
the antennas or between antennas and GE552Y052, the isolated antenna automatically will seek a new
partner to rely on to reach the GE552Y052.

4.1.2 M-Bus system
M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a European standard (EN 13757-2 [phisical and link layer], EN 13757-3 [application
layer]) for remote readin of water, heat, as or electricity meters. M-Bus is also usable for other types of
consumption meters. The M-Bus interface is desi ned to communicate on two wires, for which ensures
enormous convenience. A variant radio M-Bus (Wireless M-Bus) is also indicated in EN 13757-4. The M-Bus
protocol has been developed to have available a system for remote readin and mana ement of meters
networks of utilities , for example to measure the consumption of as or water in the house. This bus meets
the special requirements of systems remotely and/or battery powered, includin meters usually prepared
from utilities at consumers.

4.1.3 Addressing
The M-Bus protocol provides two types of addressin modes to detect and communicate with the devices
connected to the bus
•Primary addressing: up to 250 primary addresses can be allocated within an M-bus system
(hexadecimal format). The primary address is normally allocated while settin up the units.
•Secondary address: the secondary address consists of 8 bytes and allows the allocation of any
number between 00000000 and 99999999. By default, the secondary address of the devices is the
same as the manufacturer serial number. Readin s by secondary address while scannin the bus
allow the acquisition of the meters that support the “Wildcard” lo ic, the same that enables the
selection of a roup of devices based on the section of their serial number.
