INTRODUCTION

TheGPSLogicQubeisaGPSenabledcellulardatamodemforuseinAutomaticVehicle

Location(AVL)applications.Typicallyinstalledinoraroundvehicleelectrical

compartments,theQubetransmitslocationandvehicledatasuchasvoltage,ignition

status,andsensorvalues.TheQubemayalsobeconfiguredtoremotelyactivateupto(3)

threeon/offfunctionssuchasremoteunlock,lock,orenginestart.

ConfigurationoftheQubeisperformedbydownloadinganewsoftwarepackageintothe

deviceusingaPC’sserialconnection.Softwareandhardwarecomponentsrequiredfor

programmingmaybeobtainedbyGPSLogicsupport.

Prerequisites

ProgrammingoftheQuberequiresthefollowing:

WindowsXPorWindows7OS

TerminalemulationsoftwaresuchasHyperTerminalorPuTTY

DB‐9Serialport,orUSBtoSerialcable

ISPProgrammingsoftware(ISP.exeandassociatedbinaryfiles)

Qubeprogrammingdongle(RJ‐45toDB‐9connector)

PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS

PerformthefollowinginstructionsforprogrammingoftheQubemodem.These

instructionsassumeuseoftheWindows7operatingsystem.

Programming Software

DownloadandextracttheQubeprogrammingsoftwarefromtheGPSLogicSupportsite

andsavetothedesktopofthecomputerbeingusedforprogramming.

Verifythefollowingfilesarelocatedintheextractedfolder:

eprom.bin

isp.exe*

isp.ini

main.bin

*ISP.exeistheapplicationusedforprogrammingthemodem.Theremainingfilesare

loadedbyISPandmustresideinthesamefolder.

Physical Connection

TheQubeisprogrammedviatheRJ‐45connectoroftheQubemodem.Thoughthemodem

itselfistypicallydifficulttophysicallyaccess,theRJ‐45connectorisusuallyterminatedat

aneasytoreachlocationonthevehicle.

1. ConnecttheprogrammingdonglebetweenthePC’sDB‐9serialportandtheQube’s

RJ‐45connector.

2. EnsuretheQubehasareliablepowersupply1bykeepingthevehicleignitionON

duringprogrammingandverifyingallpowerconnectionsarefirmlyattached.

Modem Programming

Programmingofthemodemisasfollows:





1WARNING:Apowerfailureduringtheprogrammingprocesswillresultinafatalerrorrequiring

replacementoftheQube.

1. WiththecomputerconnectedtotheQube’sprogrammingconnector,launchthe

ISP.exeapplication.

2. ClicktheStopbuttononISP(ifnotalreadystopped):



3. LeavingISPopen,butnotconnectedtotheserialport,requesttheQubetoreset

itself:

OpenaterminalsessionontheserialportcurrentlyconnectedtotheQube.

Usethesettings57600baud,8databits,1stopbit,noparity,noflowcontrol.

Typetheletter“r”intheterminalapplication.Themodemwillrespondwith

thefollowing:



Ifthemodemdoesnotindicate“Resetcommanddetected”,thenpoweroffthe

modembydisconnectingthepowercablefromthebackofthemodem.

Closetheterminalapplication.NOTE:TheISPutilitycannotaccesstheserial

portwhileitisinusebyanotherapplication.

4. FromtheISPutility,usethedropdownlisttoselecttheserialportonwhichthe

Qubeisconnected,thenpresstheStartbutton:

5. WhilewaitingfortheQubetoresetorpowerup,ISPwillindicate“Waitingfor

instrumenttobepoweredon”.Ifamodemresetwasrequestedusingaterminal

command,thenallowupto1minutefortheresettooccur.



NOTE:ISPmustbereadyandconnectedwithin1minutefollowingareset

command.

6. Alternatively,theQubemaybemanuallypowercycledonceISPindicates“Waiting

forinstrumenttobepoweredon”.

7. OncetheQubeisresetorpoweredup,ISPwillimmediatelybegindownloadingthe

application.Progresswillbeindicatedbythefollowing:



WARNING:OnceISPindicatesthatadownloadisinprogress,neithertheQubenorthe

computermaybepoweredofforreset.Anyinterruptionduringthedownloadprocessmay

resultinpermanentdamagetothemodem.

8. Uponsuccessfuldownloadoftheapplication,ISPwillautomaticallycloseandthe

Qube’sgreenpowerLEDwillilluminate.

serialportsettings.UnderSeriallinetoconnectto,enterthenameoftheserialport

usedforprogrammingtheQube,thenentertheserialsettingsof57600baud,8data

bits,1stopbit,noparity,andnoflowcontrol:

3. ReselectSessionfromtheleftpanetobringupthesessionsettings,thenselect

DefaultSettingsunderthesavedsessionssection.WithDefaultSettingsselected,

clicktheSavebutton.



PuTTYwillnowloadbydefaultthesettingsrequiredforsendingterminal

commandstotheQube.
