HP A7502 300W AC & DC Power Supplies

User Guide

Introduction

The 300W AC (JD226A) is a built-in power supply with AC input and DC output while

the 300W DC (JD225A) is a built-in power supply with DC input and DC output.

Table 1 Features of the 300W AC and 300W DC power supplies

Feature Description

Protection

functions

Support input under-voltage protection, output over-voltage

protection, short-circuit protection, and overheat protection

1+1 redundancy

support

Support dual-power-grid 1 + 1 redundancy and current

sharing using power supplies of the same model

Hot swap support Support hot swap while the device is in operation

CAUTION:

For a device that supports both AC and DC inputs, you can choose either of the two

types of power supplies as needed. Do not use power supplies of different models in

the same device.

Table 3 300W AC and 300W DC LED description

Color/status Description Possible causes

Green The power supply

is operational. —

Power alarm (input under-voltage, output

short circuit, output over-current, output

over-voltage, or overheat occurred to the

power supply, and the power supply took a

self-protection action).

Red The power supply

is faulty.

The power supply fan is faulty.

The power supply is faulty.

The power cord is connected incorrectly.

The power source is turned off.

OFF The power input is

faulty.

The power switch is off.

CAUTION:

•In case of a power alarm (the LED turns red), check whether output short circuit,

output over-current, output over-voltage, or overheat occurred to the power supply.

In the case of output short circuit, or abnormal temperature, the power supply will

resume normal operation automatically when the fault is cleared. However, if the

power alarm is caused by output over-voltage, the power supply will get locked up

and will not resume operation automatically. In this case, turn off the power switch,

disconnect the power cords, and then reconnect the power cord and turn on the

power switch.

•Do not turn on and off the power switch too frequently. After turnin

off the power

switch, wait at least 30 seconds before turning it on again.

Power supply installation and removal

When installing or removing a power supply, be sure to follow the sequence shown in

Figure 3 or Figure 4.

Figure 3 Flow chart for installing a power supply

Figure 4 Flow chart for removing a power supply

This section describes how to install and remove a 300W AC power supply. You can

install and remove a 300W DC power supply in a similar way.

Prepare the tools that you need to install or remove power supplies.

CAUTION:

When installing or removing a power supply, make sure that the power switch is in

the off position and no power cord is connected to the power supply.

Figure 5 Install/remove a 300W AC power supply

Installing a power supply

Follow these steps to install a power supply:

Step1 Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and make sure it makes good skin contact

and is well grounded.

Step2 Remove the blank filler (if any) from the slot to be used. Keep the blank filler

properly for future use.

Step3 Unpack the power supply, and check that the power supply model is correct.

Step4 Be sure to insert the power supply with the right side up. Grasp the handle of the

module with one hand and support the module bottom with the other.

Step5 Gently push the power supply along the guide rails into the slot until it has firm

contact with the backplane.

CAUTION:

To prevent damage to the power supply and the connection terminals on the

backplane, be sure to pull out the power supply first in case of any misali

nment, and

then push it in again.

Step6 Use a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to fasten the captive screws on the power supply

to secure the power supply into the chassis.

CAUTION:

If the captive screws cannot be fastened, check that the power supply is properly

installed.

Removing a power supply

Follow these steps to remove a power supply:

Step1 Prepare an antistatic mat to place the removed power supply.

Step2 Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and make sure it makes good skin contact

and is well grounded.

Step3 Turn off the switch on the power supply.

Step4 Remove the power cord from the power supply.

Step5 Use a No. 2 Philips screwdriver to loosen the captive screw on the power supply.

Step6 Holding the power supply handle with one hand and supporting the bottom of

the power supply with the other, gently pull the power supply out.

Step7 Put the removed power supply on the antistatic mat.

CAUTION:

•The power supply is heavy. When pulling the power supply out of the slot, support

the bottom of the power supply with one hand and hold the handle of the power

supply with the other.

•After removing the power supply, if you do not install a new power supply, install a

blank panel.

Connecting the power cord

Connect the power cords after installing the power supply to the device. When

connecting power cords, check the following items:

•The power switch is in the off position.

•In the case of a DC power supply, make sure that the circuit breaker at the other

end of the DC power cords is also in the off position to avoid danger.

Connecting an AC power cord

Follow these steps to connect the AC power cord:

Step1 Make sure of the power cord model (the 300W AC uses a 10 A AC power cord).

Step2 Plug the power cord to the power receptacle on the power supply, and ensure a

good contact.

Step3 Plug the other end of the power cord to the AC power strip of the AC power

source.

Figure 6 Connect an AC power cord

Connecting a DC power cord

Follow these steps to connect the DC power cord:

Step1 Take off the protection cover.

Step2 Use a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws on the wiring terminals.

Step3 Connect the end of the blue DC power cord marked with – to the negative

terminal (–) on the power supply, and fasten the screw.

Step4 Connect the end of the black DC power cord marked with + to the positive (+)

terminals on the power supply, and fasten the screw.

Step5 Put the protection cover on the wiring terminals.

Step6 Connect the other ends of the DC power cords to the wiring terminals that provide

a power supply to the switch.
