EOLO Eco 28 kW

EOLO Eco Kw is a room-sealed, fan-assisted wall-mounted

generator characterised by low polluting emissions that con-

form with the requirements of the most ecological class (class

5) established by European standards (UNI EN 297 and EN

483).

ese results are possible thanks to the special water cooled

vertical Venturi burner.

ere are two versions in the range, one with a power of 24

kW (20,640 kcal/h) and one with a power of 28 kW (24,080

kcal/h).

e regulation and the control functions are managed by an

electronic control board microprocessor drive.

anks to which the appliance can be connected to the Amico

Remote Control.

e boiler features a standard antifreeze safety device that

protects it against temperatures as low as -5°C (optional as

low as -15°C).

e hydraulic circuit features a copper water-gas

exchanger as well as a new hydraulic unit in a compound

material.

Besides the pump and 3-way electric diverter valve, that,

depending on needs, lets boiler water circulate in the central

heating system or in a stainless steel plate exchanger for the

instant production of domestic hot water, this unit also

houses the devices that control the hydraulic circuit (system

absolute pressure switch, system adjustable by-pass, etc.).

Combustion air ow into the sealed chamber and ue

extraction are ensured by a fan; the correct operation of

which is controlled by a dierential pressure switch.

General features.

e boiler functioning parameters are set by turning the control

panel knobs.

e functioning status and possible anomalies are easily signal-

led by leds on the panel.

Primary circuit (boiler circuit).

e primary circuit with relevant control and safety devices

is triggered each time there is a request for central heating

or domestic hot water.

Operation.

e heat contained in the ue produced by combustion is ab-

sorbed by the copper blades of the primary water-gas exchanger

(7) which, in turn, transfers it to the water circulating inside

it by means of the boiler pump (15).

e water is transferred directly into the system or else can

be diverted inside the stainless steel instantaneous plate ex-

changer (3).

is depends on the position of the motorised 3-way valve

(16) which, when idle, lets the water ow through the d.h.w.

exchanger (3); on the other hand, when responding to a heating

request, the ow is diverted to the system delivery (M) and

return (R) pipes.

Flow-head graph.

e trend of the curve that represents the system’s ow-head

ratio depends on how fast the pump is working and on how

the system by-pass is adjusted. Depending on the position,

it provides the system with a higher or a smaller head. e

characteristic curves are shown in the following graphs.

Head (kPa)

Flow rate Litres/h

A = Head available to the system on maximum speed with the by-pass o

(adjustment screw fully tightened)

B = Head available to the system on maximum speed (screw tightened

1.5 turns compared to the adjustment screw completely loose)

C = Head available to the system on maximum speed with the by-pass

open (adjustment screw completely loose)

Head (m H2O)

Boiler circulator (1).

It works on the primary circuit return, located immediately

after the 3-way diverter valve to which it is connected.

It is part of the integrated multi-function unit made in a

compound material.

A space on the body houses the automatic air vent (2).

Primary exchanger (1).

It is a water-gas lamellar exchanger with copper pipes and ns

(N° 75 ns 24 kW version) (N° 98 ns 28 kW version). e

central heating delivery NTC probe (2) and the overheating

safety thermostat (3) are located on the exchanger’s outlet

(delivery).

e four pipes it is made of are connected in series (4).

It is connected to the pump delivery and primary circuit deli-

very by means of pipes with threaded ttings.

RETURN

Motorised 3-way diverter valve.

Whenever a request is made (for domestic hot water or central

heating) thanks to this 3-way electric diverter valve, working on

the primary circuit return, boiler water is transferred either to

the heating system or to the d.h.w. exchanger (plate type).

is depends on the position of the shutter (5) which shuts

o passage to the system and simultaneously opens the way

to the d.h.w. exchanger (domestic hot water position) or, vice

versa (central heating position).

is shutter (5) is moved in either position by powering the

motor (1).

e hydraulic part of the boiler consists of a unit made in a

composite material (2) that also includes the circulator and it is

operated by a motor (1) which causes it to move as required.

Operation.

When the central heating or domestic hot water position has

to be reached the motor (1) is switched on by the integrated

board.

Each time the motor turns of 180° it causes the shutter (5) to

move and it compresses (central heating position) or releases the

shutter’s contrast spring (4) (domestic hot water position).

Both the spring (4) and shutter (5) are inside the 3-way car-

tridge (3).

When the position requested is reached hydraulically, one of

two limit switches (6) located inside the motor box (1) opens

and closes alternately.

When idle, the shutter (5) is positioned in d.h.w. functio-

ning.

Each time an heating request is satised the motor (1) turns

and releases the shutter's contrast spring (4).

On the contrary, at the end of each d.h.w. request, the shutter

(5) remains in the position reached.

Safety devices and checks.

Adjustable system by-pass (2).

is device guarantees the circulation of water in the primary

circuit (between delivery and return) even when it would be

prevented by the high resistance of the system.

It is mounted on the delivery manifold (1) and adjusted by a

screw that can be accessed from the bottom of the valve sup-

porting plate.

System lling unit (3).

is is a ball cock located between the boiler circuit and the

domestic cold water inlet and it makes possible to pressurise

the central heating system.

e cock is connected to a lling up tting (4) which, in turn,

is connected to the motorised 3-way diverter valve unit.

System pressure switch (5).

is switch detects the pressure inside the primary circuit. It

is housed in the delivery manifold unit (1) and coupled to a

microswitch that prevents the burner working when the pres-

sure measured is below 0.3 bar.

It prevents the primary exchanger overheating.

Automatic air vent (6).

It automatically expels any gaseous substances from the boiler

circuit.

It is mounted on the circulator delivery, directly on the hy-

draulic unit.

Safety valve 3 bar (7).

It prevents the safety pressure being exceeded in the primary

circuit (3 bar).

It is located at the front of the delivery manifold unit (1) and

xed on the outside by a fork.

When this valve trips it causes water to come out through the

delivery pipe.

System expansion vessel (8).

It compensates the changes in volume following the heating

of water and permits to reduce pressure changes.

It has a useful capacity of 7.4 litres and a pre-load pressure

of 1.0 bar.

It is located at the back of the appliance.

Secondary circuit (domestic hot water circuit).

Operation.

Running the domestic hot water causes cold water to ow

through the d.h.w. ow switch (1) and, as a result, the electrical

contact connected to it closes (see the electrical circuit).

After this, the integrated board starts the domestic hot water

priority function phase whereby the burner is ignited and, if

there is an on-going central heating request, the 3-way diverter

valve (2) switches and moves into the working position (see

operation of the 3-way hydraulic diverter valve).

is causes the return pipe (R) to close and the simultaneous

opening of the passage to the d.h.w. exchanger (3).

is prevents circulation in the central heating system while

it is allowed in the plate exchanger inside which the domestic

cold water absorbs the heat contained in the primary circuit

water (see d.h.w. exchanger).

is means that the central heating function is o in this phase,

the production of domestic hot water having priority.

e water-water heat exchange takes place inside the d.h.w.

exchanger (3) which is xed with screws to the d.h.w. outlet

body (1) and to the d.h.w. inlet body (2).

e part at the top of the left body allows the delivery water to

enter the primary circuit while the part at the bottom allows

the domestic hot water to exit.

Likewise, the top of the right body allows the domestic cold

water to enter while at the bottom, return of the primary

circuit.

e d.h.w. probe (4), by means of which the integrated board

is able to measure the temperature of the domestic hot water,

is mounted on the domestic hot water outlet body (1).

D.h.w. ow switch (1).

Running the domestic hot water at a ow rate of at least

2.0 l/min and a dynamic pressure of 0.3 bar, the d.h.w. ow

switch (1) enables the boiler to work in the domestic hot

water phase.

is takes place by means of a magnet that, upon lifting when

it is hit by the ow of domestic cold water, moves closer to

an electrical contact (reed relay) causing it to move due to the

magnetic eect.

When the contact closes, located outside the pipe through

which the water ows, it enables the integrated board to start

the domestic hot water priority functioning phase.

It is xed with a pin to the valve supporting plate.

A ow limiting device (2) is mounted on the outlet of the

d.h.w. ow switch, 7.55 l/min (24 kW version) and 9.0 l/min

(28 kW version).

D.h.w. exchanger.

is is a water-water exchanger consisting of stainless steel

plates placed on top of each other (16 in the 24 kW version

and 20 in the 28 kW version) on the surface of which ows,

in counter current, the water of the boiler circuit and the

domestic cold water and through which heat exchange occurs

between the two liquids.

For the hydraulic coupling four O rings (1) are used that al-

low direct coupling to the d.h.w. inlet body and to the d.h.w.

outlet body.

Technical Documentation Technical Documentation

is circuit consists of an atmospheric burner and a modulating

gas valve that permit, respectively, the combustion of gas and

the regulation of its ow rate.

Operation.

When the main coils (3) are energised, both inner valve shutters

open, allowing the gas to ow towards the burner.

e ow rate/outlet pressure is regulated by means of the gas

valve stabiliser and the modulation coil (1).

e burner nozzles (7) inject the fuel into the vertical Venturi

pipes (ramps) inside which an optimum air-gas mix is obtained

which, during combustion, minimises secondary air require-

ments. e spark from the ignition electrodes (8-9) ignites

the burner that, working with a “low” ame on the whole

surface, ensures combustion at temperatures that are lower

than those with traditional burners. is all helps to reduce the

emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and carbon monoxide

(CO) considerably.

Modulating gas valve.

e gas valve (SIT 845) features two main coils (3) and a

modulation coil (1) controlled by the integrated board.

e maximum and minimum outlet pressure settings can be

made on this valve (see gas regulations).

Main electrical coils (3).

ey are two ON-OFF type coils energised (230 Vac) by the

integrated board when the burner has to be ignited.

ey are electrically connected in parallel and energised by

mains power through a special connector (2).

Modulation coil (1).

is low-voltage coil is controlled by the integrated board.

It controls the gas valve stabiliser and is used to change the

outlet pressure in a way proportionate to the dc current that

runs through it.

Gas circuit.

Burner (4).

e burner consists of two rows of 12 (24 kW version) and 14

(28 kW version) vertical Venturi pipes (5) inside which gas is

injected by an equal number of nozzles (7) mounted on the

special, aluminium manifold (6). e diameter of the nozzles

(7) varies according to the type of gas utilised (see technical

data). At the top, the return pipe of the primary circuit water

travels across the top of it lengthways, cooling it down when

it is working. is is necessary because the combustion with a

low ame and the reduced quantity of air tend to increase the

burner surface temperature.

A diaphragm plate (11) is xed to the burner (4) that improves

ignition, optimising the ow of gas and air.

Ignition occurs thanks to an integrated electronic board

that controls both the ignition (8-9) and detection (10)

electrodes.

Ignition electrode (8).

It is controlled by the integrated board that produces an

electric discharge between its end and the earthed electrode

(dummy) (9).

ey are located on the left side of the burner.

Detection electrode (10).

It is controlled by the integrated board and detects burner

ignition.

It is located on the burner side opposite to the ignition elec-

trode.
