NOTE: Protect the finish of the flooring. Cut a

large section of the cardboard carton and place

under the refrigerator where you are working.

GROUNDING THE REFRIGERATOR

IMPORTANT m Please read carefully.

FOR PERSONAL SAFETY, THIS APPLIANCE

MUST BE PROPERLY GROUNDED.

The power supply cord of this appliance is

equipped with a three-pin grounding plug which

mates with a standard three-pin grounding wall

receptacle to minimize the possibility of electric

shock hazard from this appliance.

Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a

qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is

properly grounded.

Where a standard 2-pin wall outlet is encountered,

it is your personal responsibility and obligation to

have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-pin

wall outlet.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY

CIRCUMSTANCES, CUT

OR REMOVE THE

THIRD (GROUNDING)

PIN FROM THE

POWER CORD.

DO NOT USE AN ADAPTER PLUG TO CONNECT

THE REFRIGERATOR TO A 2-PIN OUTLET.

DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD WITH THIS

APPLIANCE.

2. CONNECT WATER DISPENSER LINE

A water dispenser is just one of the helpful features

on your new Kenmore Refrigerator. To help promote

better health, the Kenmore water filter removes

unwanted particles from your water. However,

it does not sterilize or destroy microorganisms.

You may need to purchase a water purifying

system to do that.

In order for the icemaker to operate properly, a

water pressure of 20-125 psi (pound per square

inch) is required.

Under normal conditions, a 6-ounce cup can be

filled in 10 seconds.

If the Refrigerator is installed in an area with low

water pressure (below 20 psi), install a booster

pump to compensate for the low pressure.

Make sure the water storage tank inside the

Refrigerator is properly filled. To do this, press the

water dispenser lever until the water runs from the

water outlet.

NOTE: Water line installation kits are available at

extra cost from Sears. We recommend using

awater supply kit that contains copper tubing.

Connecting to the water supply line:

1. First, shut off the main water supply line and turn

the icemaker off.

2. Locate the nearest cold drinking water line.

3. After connecting the water supply to the water

filter, turn your main water supply back on and

flush 4 or more gallons into a bucket to clear and

prime the water filter.

CAUTION: It is recommended that a

pressure valve be installed by the plumber

(350 kpa).

ColdWater Line

Shutoff

Supplied water line and valve fitting must be

connected to water pipe.

3. INSTALL WATER FILTER

,, The water supply is bypassed automatically if

water filter is removed.

,, To remove or change the water filter, open the

top grille.

Master Power Switch Water Filter

Rotate Counterclockwise to Remove

,, Rotate the water filter to the left

(counterclockwise) until removed.

,, Insert new water filter and rotate the filter to the

right (clockwise) until tightly secured in place.

4. iNSTALL ANTI=TIP BRACKETS

WARNING: The refrigerator is

Top-Heavy and must be secured to prevent the

possibility of tipping forward.

,, Cut a 2" x 4" wood block 36" long, and secure

the block to the mounting brackets provided,

using #12 or #14 wood screws.

,, (behind drywall)

,, Secure brackets with wood block to back wall, in

alignment with wall studs, so that it is 82" (or the

rear installation height) from the finished floor.

Use #12 or #14 wood screws.

,, Screws must penetrate at least 1" into vertical

wall studs.

ALTERNATE ANTI=TIP PRECAUTIONS FOR

STEEL WALL STUDS

You may skip this step when using anti-tip

brackets. However, whenever possible, perform

this step for additional anti-tip security.

All Kenmore built-in refrigerators are Top-Heavy.

They must be secured to prevent the possibility

of tipping forward. Use this alternative method

to secure the refrigerator whenever steel wall

studs are encountered.

Drive Screws Through

Case Trim Int0

Adjacent Cabinets

Adjust height of refrigerator to match installation

cutout opening 83-1/2" to 84-1/2". The

refrigerator must be level and flush with adjacent

cabinets. The top case trim at the front is 2-1/8"

higher than the rear and will overlap upper

cabinets or cabinet trim.

Open grille panel to access the top case trim.

Use a 3/16" bit to drill 4 evenly spaced clearance

holes through the metal top case trim.

Use a 1/16" bit to drill pilot holes through the

metal clearance holes and into wood. The holes

should be centered in the soffit or a 3/4"

minimum wood brace. The brace spanning the

enclosure must be securely fastened to cabinets

on both sides.

Install four 1-1/2" drywall screws into the pilot

holes.

clockwise to raise or counterclockwise to lower

the refrigerator.

,, For front leveling, use a 7/16" open-end wrench.

CAUTION: The rear leveling legs and

front leveling legs are limited to a maximum height

adjustment of 1". If the installation requires more

than 84-1/2" height, the installer should elevate the

refrigerator on a sheet of plywood or runners.

Cabinet trim could be added across the top of the

opening to shorten the opening. If you attempt to

raise the refrigerator more than 1", you will
