Instructions
The KD-HDMIWPRX can receive power from either the CAT5 ‘Control’ connection or
via the supplied power adapter. When using the CAT5 cable to deliver power to the unit,
performance is subject to the following factors:
Ability of the CAT5 cable to deliver the required power over distance
Quality of the CAT5 cable.
1. Find a safe and convenient location for the KD-HDMIWPRX unit.
Before permanently securing the unit or final installation of cabling behind walls or
ceilings, test for proper operation of the unit and the cables in your system.
2. Power
In order to insure the best possible performance from the KD-HDMIWPRX, we
recommend using only the original Key Digital power supply. If you are using
the supplied power adapter, plug it into the power input jack on the side of the
unit. You should see the “Power” LED illuminate. (see Fig. 1)
3. Connections
•Plug in the CAT5 source cables to their corresponding ‘Data’ and ‘Control’
input ports of the KD-HDMIWPRX. If you are not using the supplied power
adapter, the “Power” LED should illuminate upon plugging in the ‘Control’
input cable if your HDMI source and the KD-HDMIWPTX, KD-
HDMIXCAT5 or KD-CAT5XCAT5 are powered on.
•Plug in the HDMI cable for your display or receiving device to the “Output”
port on the KD-HDMIWPRX. At this point, if both your source (KD-
HDMIWPTX, KD-HDMIXCAT5 or KD-CAT5XCAT5) and destination
devices are powered on, you should see the green “Power” LED and the blue
“HPD” LED lit.
•Connect the PCM port, if used, the the PCM input of the A/V receiver or other
destination device.
When a stable signal is established between your source and destination, the red
“Equalizer Active” LED will light. If this red LED indicator is blinking or not
illuminated, try shortening HDMI or CAT5 cable lengths or lowering the resolution
of the video signal.

DVI applications for the KD-HDMIWPRX
The KD-HDMIWPRX can also be used to extend DVI video cable runs. For these
applications, use DVI to HDMI (Key Digital model number KD-MFHDMI) adapters to
feed the HDMI input of the KD-HDMIWPRX.
Mounting the KD-HDMIWPRX unit
Before permanently securing the unit or final installation of cabling behind walls or
ceilings, test for proper operation of the unit and the cables in your system.
The wall plate can be mounted in a standard electrical box.
1. Remove the white, plastic face plate on the KD-HDMIWPRX
2. Connect CAT5 cables to the appropriate CAT5 ports on the back of the KD-
HDMIWPRX.
3. Secure the KD-HDMIWPRX metal bracket to the electrical box using the
screws supplied with the electrical box.
4. Re-install the plastic face plate on the front of the KD-HDMIWPRX
5. Secure the metal cable tie bracket to the face plate using the supplied screw.
This bracket provides a method for securing HDMI cables to the wall plate
with a single cable tie.

Troubleshooting
Most issues with the KD-HDMIWPRX setup will involve resolution and distance
performance. If you experience problems (no image, video artifacts, picture dropout,
noise) here are a few things to try.
1. Use the shortest possible HDMI and CAT5 cables between devices.
2. Lower the output resolution of the image source.
3. Use the provided power supply for the KD-HDMIWPRX instead of relying on
the voltage in the HDMI cable to power the unit.
4. Use Key Digital HDMI cables.
Other possible problems can result from self-made CAT5 cables. Please verify that the
CAT5 terminators are properly crimped and that the pinout is one-to-one, that is, each pin
corresponds to the same pin on the send and receive ends.
Product Warnings:
8
