1. WORK AREA SAFETY
• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of
ammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you
to lose control.
2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase
the risk of electric shock.
• If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device
protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
• Use only Kobalt 80-volt batteries. (KB 280-06, KB 2580-06, KB 380-06, KB 480-06).
3. PERSONAL SAFETY

power source and/or battery pack and when picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power
tools with your nger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites acci-
dents.
SAFETY INFORMATION
IMPORTANT
WARNING: Read and understand all instructions. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may
result in electric shock, re, and/or serious personal injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in all of the
warnings listed below refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless)
power tool.

7
• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left
attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
• Do not over-reach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control
of the power tool in unexpected situations.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities,
ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related
hazards.
4. POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
• Do not force the power tool. Use the power tool for the application. The correct power tool
will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot
be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, chang-
ing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of
starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with
the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in
the hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of
parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have
the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power
tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc.in accordance with these instructions,
taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power
tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
5. BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE
• Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting battery pack. Inserting the battery
pack into power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
• Recharge only with the charger specied by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for
one type of battery pack may create a risk of re when used with another battery pack.
• Use power tools only with specically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery
packs may create a risk of injury and re.
• When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips,
coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from
one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a re.
• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact

accidentally occurs, ush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical
help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
6. SERVICE
• Have your power tool serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical replace-
ment parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
7. CHAIN SAW SAFETY WARNINGS
• Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain when the chain saw is operating. Be-
fore you start the chain saw, make sure the saw chain is not in contact with anything. A
moment of inattention while operating chain saws may cause entanglement of your clothing or
body with the saw chain.
• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain many
contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Saw chains contacting a “live” wire may make exposed
metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
• Always hold the chain saw with your right hand at the rear handle and your left hand at
the front handle. Holding the chain saw with a reversed hand conguration increases the risk of
personal injury and should never be done.
• Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Further protective equipment for head, hands,
legs and feet is recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce personal injury from
ying debris or accidental contact with the saw chain.
• Do not operate a chain saw in a tree. Operation of a chain saw while up in a tree may result in
personal injury.
• Always keep proper footing and operate the chain saw only when standing on xed, secure
and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause loss of balance or
control of the chain saw.
• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert of spring back. When the tension in the
wood bres is released, the spring loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the chain saw
out of control.
• Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the
saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.
• Carry the chain saw by the front handle with the chain saw switched off and away from
your body. When transporting or storing the chain saw, always t the guide bar cover.
Proper handling of the chain saw will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving
saw chain.
SAFETY INFORMATION

9
• Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly
tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback.
• Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery,
causing loss of control.
• Cut wood only. Do not use chain saw for purposes not intended. For example: do not use
chain saw for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the chain saw
for operations other than intended could result in a hazardous situation.
SAFETY INFORMATION
WARNING Proposition 65
Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities
contain chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples
of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead-based paints,
• Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
• Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Your risk of exposure to these chemicals varies depending on how often you do this type of work. To
reduce your exposure to these chemicals, work in a well-ventilated area, and work with approved safety
equipment, such as dust masks that are specically designed to lter out microscopic particles.

10
Kickback
SAFETY INFORMATION
WARNING
Kickback may occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper portion of the tip of the
guide bar or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Contact at the upper
portion of the tip of the guide bar can cause the chain to dig into the object and stop the chain for an
instant. The result is a lightning fast reverse reaction which kicks the guide bar up and back toward
the operator. If the saw chain is pinched along the top of the guide bar, the guide bar can be driven
rapidly back toward the operator. Either of these reactions can cause loss of saw control which can
result in serious injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into the saw. As a chain
saw user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
The following precautions should be followed to
minimize kickback:
• Maintain a rm grip, with thumbs and ngers
encircling the chain saw handles, with both
hands on the saw and position your body and
arm to allow you to resist kickback forces.
Kickback can be controlled by the operator, if
proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the
chain saw.
• Do not overreach and do not cut above
shoulder height. This helps prevent unintended
tip contact and enables better control of the chain
saw in unexpected situations.
• Only use replacement bars and chains
specied by the manufacturer. Incorrect
replacement bars and chains may cause chain
breakage and/or kickback.
• Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and
maintenance instructions for the saw chain.
Decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to
increased kickback.
