Chapter 1
Installation
General Installation
The basic Opus master control switcher consists of a frame
and a control panel. A general installation overview is
shown below:
1. Mount the Opus processor unit (frame) in an enclosure
that provides power and cooling facilities. The frame is
designed for mounting in a standard equipment rack
(width 19 in., depth 24-30 in.). Rear support is recom-
mended if Opus is subject to vibration and stress.
When installed with a Leitch routing switcher, it is rec-
ommended that the user mount the processing unit
nearby because of the cables interconnecting the two
units.
2. Install the Opus control console in a desk or table top at
the actual operational location. It is recommended that
the console be angled toward the operator to provide
better readability of the displays and front panel mark-
ings (see Figure 1-1).

3. Connect the control panel Ethernet port (ENET2) to
the Ethernet port (ENET2) on the frame’s rear panel.
This connection can be made via a hub using a straight
through Ethernet cable or directly using a crossed Ether-
net cable.

Caution
The console should not be mounted in such a way as to block the
ventilation holes on the chassis.
4. Connect the sync input connector on the frame to a
valid reference signal using the reference input.
5. Connect the AC power input receptacles on the frame
and control panel to the power source. Normal installa-
tion precautions should be adopted.
6. Connect an AES audio reference to either the balanced
or BNC input on the frame.
