Oper tion
M tknife
Cutting Bo rd to Size
The matknife is sed for trimming matboard to size
or o tside dimensions. the knife has three settings:
safety, single thickness and foamboard.
1. Use B cking Sheet
Before c tting, be s re to se a backing sheet of an
8x10 mat of scrap matboard the same size or larger
than the piece yo are going to c t nderneath the
matboard yo will be c tting. Use one of the 10
pieces provided in the box for now. The Backing
Sheet provides a place for the blade tip to go so it
won’t c t into the s rface yo are c tting on.
2. Me suring
Draw pencil lines on back of matboard at desired
size. Place the channel side of the rail edge along
the left side of the pencil line. (Fig 1).
3. Precut
Hold the rail firmly in place with yo r left hand. With
yo r right hand hold the knife vertical so that the
handle is at a 45 degree angle p tting the tip
against the straight edge. (Fig2). If yo are c tting
across a sheet of matboard, simply start the blade
beyond the top edge of the board and p ll the
matknife completely thro gh.

4. Cutting
Draw the matknife toward yo along the straight
edge keeping contact press re on the Straight
Edge and downward press re on the Matknife.
(Fig3).
WARNING! Be caref l when knife reaches the end of
the mat so that it does not ”j mp” toward yo .
Bevel Cutter
Cutting Single M t
1. Using the scale side of straight edge, mark the
back of the mat for the exact border yo want.
2. Place the mat face down on the Backing Sheet.
Place the Straight Edge EXACTLY on the left hand
border so that the o tside edge of the channel is
lined p along the pencil line. (Fig.4). Make s re
that the b lk of the mat is to the right hand side of
the straight edge. Having the mat on the left side
of the straight edge will res lt in a reversed bevel
c t. Attach the 302 Bevel C tter to the straight
edge by fitting the black nylon g ides over the
raised edge of the channel. Position the mat c tter
so that the silver indicator line lines p with the
bottom intersecting pencil line. (Fig.5).
3. Hold downward press re on the Straight Edge with
yo r left hand. Place the th mb of yo r right hand
on the th mb divot on the retractable Blade Holder
and pl nge the blade into the mat.
4. Keeping downward press re on the Blade Holder,
slide the Bevel C tter away from yo ntil it inter-
sects with the pper line. Be s re and keep even
downward press re. (Fig.6).
5. Use yo r th mb to p ll the blade holder back into
the p position so the blade is removed from the
mat. Repeat these steps for the remaining three
sides. Congrat lations! Yo have j st c t yo r first
mat.
To adj st the blade depth on the Bevel c tter, t rn the
screw on the nderside of the c tting head clockwise
to decrease or co nter-clockwise to increase the
amo nt of the exposed blade.

Apply Rub-on Tr nsfers
Align the sheet of transfers across the top of the mat with desired design in place. Use the grid
on the sheet to aid in alignment. Using any bl nt tipped object o t tool (Bl nt tipped pencil,
spoon handle, coin, etc.) gently r b on the back of the transfer sheet to apply transfer on the
s rface of the matboard.
Trouble Shooting
Bevel Cut h s Rough Edge
1. Yo may need to change yo r blade more often. D ll blades drag thro gh the mat instead
of c t.
2. Change yo r Backing Sheet. C tting over the same area on the Backing Sheet repeatedly
can ca se ro gh c ts.
Not Cutting Through the M t
1. Keep even downward press re on the Chrome Blade Holder thro gho t the c t. Letting
press re off will allow the blade to come o t of the mat.
Overcuts In Corners
1. Check yo r blade depth. Extra blade depth can ca se the blade tip to c t past the marked
lines prod cing an overc t. Using the recessed screw on the bottom of the Bevel C tter,
adj st the blade tip to allow for 1/8” exposed. The blade sho ld j st slice into the s rface of
the Backing Sheet.
Hooks or Curves in Cut
1. Check yo r blade depth. Extra blade depth can ca se the blade tip to flare o t prod cing a
hook or c rve. Using the recessed screw on the bottom of the Bevel C tter, adj st the blade
tip to allow for 1/8” exposed. The blade sho ld j st slice into the s rface of the Backing
Sheet.
2. Change the Blade. A d ll blade will flare o t ca sing a hook or c rve.
A NOTE ON BLADES: No two blades will have the same lifespan. Always start with a new
blade before each pro ect to insure best results.
