Introduction
The NMN6050B Safety Helmet Headset is an accessory item compatible with many
Motorola two-way radio products. The headset fits up into and attaches to the inside of the
safety helmet.
Description
The microphone and earphone electrical components of the headset are located within a
capsule assembly (see Figure 1). A flexible acoustical tube leads from the earphone to the
soft plastic earpiece. Another acoustical tube provides the lip microphone facility. The
headset cable is terminated in an industrial connector for use in many Motorola two-way
radio applications.
Assembly
Refer to Figure 1 and become familiar with the parts and terminology. The headset is pro-
vided with a plastic box that contains a set of six soft plastic earpiece tips of various sizes
to fit the individual users ear. Assemble the headset per the following steps.
1. Open the plastic box of earpiece tips. Fit several earpieces to your ear and select

over the metal connector that protrudes from the capsule corner.
3. Attach the black microphone acoustical tube to the remaining threaded connec-
tor which points straight away from the bottom of the capsule.
Installation of Headset To Helmet
Figure 2: Headset/Helmet Installation
Refer to Figure 2 and install the headset to the helmet as outlined in the following steps.
1. To determine the mounting location for the headset at the helmet side, the cap-
sule assembly should be clipped onto the hanging bracket and positioned along
the approximate center line of the helmet so that the microphone tube is directly
in front of the user's mouth.
NOTE:
Be sure the headset capsule, when attached, is low enough to clear the bottom
!
CAUTION
Be carefut not to insert the earpiece too far into the
ear canal, the bulb end just up to the flange.

edge of the helmet.
2. Mark this bracket position for cementing a piece of precutVelcro tape (Motorola
Part Number 1184865H01) to the helmet. Repeat the procedure for attaching
another piece of tape to the other side of the helmet if desired.
3. Roughen the inner surface of the helmet with emery cloth (supplied) along the
approximate center line as marked previously.
4. Spread an even coat of the contact cement (supplied) on the helmet surface and
on the tape (supplied) to be bonded. (Cover all edges of the tape with cement.)
5. Allow approximately 3 to 5 minutes for the cement to become 'tacky' and then
attach the tape to the helmet.
6. Apply pressure to the tape by clamping or pressing (15 minutes minimum) and
allow to cure for 24 hrs at room temperature before using.
7. The headset hanging bracket is factory equipped with similar tape. Attach the
headset to the helmet. With tape on both sides, the headset can be switched
from one side to the other.
Cable Routing
Refer to Figure 2 and route the cable along the inside of the helmet and down the back
side. Secure the cable to the back side of the helmet sweatband using the cable retainer
clamp and hardware supplied.
