The following are basic instructions for operating the PTBT2 ULTRAPEN &App. To
accessafullOperationsManual:
1. InsidetheApptapthePreferencesbuttonontheFeature
NavigationBar.
2. SelectHelpfromtheSettingsMenuscreen.
3. ThebrowserofyourmobiledeviceswillopenandlinktotheMyronL®Company
websitepagewherethePTBTxOperationsManualcanbeaccessed.
I. Connecting the ULTRAPEN to the Mobile Device
TopairandconnectthePTBT2toyourmobiledevice:
1. InsidetheApptaptheConnectbuttonintheFeatureNavigationBar.
2. PushandreleasethebuttononthePTBT2toturnitON.
3. WhenthePTBT2’snameappearsontheConnectScreen,selectthatline.
4. AcheckmarkwillappearnexttoPTBT2’sname.
NOTE: The default name for all PTBT2’s is, “MLC-PTBTx”.To edit the name, Tap the
Preferences button and go to ULTRAPEN Settings section. See the PTBTx
OperationsManualforfullinstructiions.
TounpairfromaPTBT2:
1. TaptheredUnpairbuttonnexttothePTBT2’sname.
2. AnUnpairInstrumentdialogueboxwillappear.
3. TaptheDisconnectbuttoninthedialoguebox.
II. Temperature Unit Selection
ThePTBT2allowsyoutoselecteitherCentigrade(°C)orFarenheit(°F)whendisplaying
temperatureontheiOSscreens.
ToselecttheTemperatureUnits:
1. InsidetheApptapthe PreferencesbuttonontheFeatureNavigationBar.
2. SelectApplication Preferencesfromthelistofsettingstopics.
3. SlidetheTemperatureUnitsswitchleftorrighttodisplay
temperaturevaluesaseither°Cor°F.
III. pH Mode Selection
ThePT2allowsyoutoselectbetweentwopHmeasurementmodes:
Hold(Default):Oncestabilized,thereadingiscapturedthendisplayed.
LIVE:Real-timereadingsaredisplayedcontinuouslyduringmeasurementuntilthe
ULTRAPENtimesout.
ToselectthepHMode:
1. InsidetheApptap the PreferencesbuttonontheFeature
NavigationBar.
2. SelectULTRAPEN Settingsfromthelistofsettingstopics
3. PushandreleasethebuttononthePTBT2toturnitON.
4 When the PTBT2 LED begins to ash, TheApp will display, “Press and hold the
button on the ULTRAPEN to enter Preferences”
5. PressandholdthePTBT2’spushbutton.
6. WhentheLEDgoestosolidONtheULTRAPENSettingsscreenwillappear.
7. SelectPen ModefromtheULTRAPENSettingsscreen.ThePenModescreenwill
appear.
8. TapthePen Modefieldonthescreen.
9. Choosethedesiredmode(HoldorLive)fromthelistthatappears.
10. Tapthe Applybutton.
IV. pH Measurement

To measure solution at the extremes of the specified temperature range,
allowthepen to equilibrateby submerging thecellin the samplesolution of thesame
temperaturefor1minutepriortotakingameasurement.
NOTE:Ifyoucannotdipthepeninthesamplesolution,pourthesampleintoaclean
container.Ifyoudon’thaveasamplecontainerorneedtotestaverticalstreamof
solution,usethescoop.

1. Rinsethepen.Ifmeasuringfromacontainer,submergethepenandswirlitaround
inFRESHsamplesolution3times.Alternatively,swirlfor30secondsunder
astreamorinabodyofwater.
2. IftheMeasurementscreenisnotdisplayed,taptheMeasurement
buttonintheFeatureNavigationBar.Thescreenwillsay,
“Paired ULTRAPEN is Ofine“.
3. Graspthepennearthepencaptoavoidsamplecontamination.
4. Removepenfromtherinsesolution.
5. PressandreleasethePTBT2’spushbuttontoturnitON.
6. WhentheLEDashesrapidly,IMMEDIATELYdipthepeninthesamplesolutionso
thatthecelliscompletelysubmerged.Ifyoudonotsubmergethecellinsolution
beforetheashingslows,allowthepentopoweroffandretakethereading.
7. TheAppscreenwilldisplay“Measuring ...”
8. WhentheLEDashesslowly,swirlthepentoremovebubbles,keepingthecell
submergedandpreferablyatleast1inch(2½cm)awayfromsides/bottomof
container.
a.InHoldmodewhentheLEDturnsonsolidthedisplaywillshowthefinalpHand
temperaturereadings.
b.InLIVEmodeallowthepentoremaininsolutionwhiletheLEDashesslowly.
ThedisplaywillshowlivepHandtemperaturereadings.Thepenwilltimeout
after5minute.Pushandreleasethepen’sbuttontopoweritOFFatany
timeduringLIVEmeasurement
9. TheULTRAPENwillturnOFFoncethemeasurementiscompleted.
V. Recording and Recalling Measurements
1. Onceameasurementisfinished,taptheMS button(MemoryStore).
2. TheAppscreenwilldisplaythemeasurementasanunsavedrecord.
3. TaptheSavebuttonintheupperrightcorneroftherecorddisplay.
4. TherecordwillbesavedandtheAppwillreturntothe
Measurementscreen.
5. TaptheMR button(MemoryRecall)intheFeatureNavigationBarto
displayalistofstoredrecords.
6. Swipeupanddowntorevealthefulllist.Tapanyrecordonthelist
toviewit’sdetails.
VI. Calibration
The Myron L® Company recommends calibrating twice a month depending on usage.
However, you should check the calibration whenever measurements are not as
expected.3-pointWetCalibrationismostaccurateandisrecommended.
NOTE:IfthemeasurementisNOTwithincalibrationlimits,“Error. Clean sensor. Check
Solution.”willdisplay.ChecktomakesureyouareusingaproperpHbuffersolution.If
thesolutioniscorrect,cleantheglassbulbofthesensorwithacottonswabsoakedin
isopropylalcohol.Restartcalibration.
NOTE:Smallbubblestrappedinthesensormaygiveafalsecalibration.
NOTE: If at any point during calibration, you do not submerge the sensor in solution
beforetheashingslows,allowthepentopoweroffandstartover.
A. Calibration Preparation
1. Formaximumaccuracy,fill2cleancontainerswitheachpHbufferyouwillbeusing.
Arrangetheminsuchawaythatyoucanclearlyrememberwhichistherinsesolution
and which is the calibration buffer. Always rinse the pH sensor between buffer
solutions.
2. EnsurethepHsensoriscleanandfreeofdebris.
NOTE:Ifyoudonothaveenoughbuffer,youcanuse1containerofeachbufferfor
calibrationand1containerofcleanwaterforallrinsing.
B. Multi-Point Calibration (2 and 3 point Calibration).
Toperformamulti-PointCalibrationyoumustalwaysstartwith7.0pHbuffer.
1. TaptheCALbuttonintheFeatureNavigationBar.
TheAppscreenwillappearandsay,“Paired ULTRAPEN is Ofine”.
2. Graspthepennearthebatterytoavoidsamplecontamination.
3. Removepenfromtherinsesolution.
4. Pressandreleasethepen’spushbutton.TheCalibrationscreenwilldisplay,“Press
and hold the button on the ULTRAPEN to enter CAL mode.”
5. PressandHoldthepen’sbutton.TheLEDwillgotosolidONandtheApp’sCalibration
screenwillappear
6. TapthegreenCALbuttonontheCalibrationscreen.
7. Whenthepen’sLEDashesrapidly,IMMEDIATELYdip
thepenincalibration7.0pHbuffersothatthecellis

14. Afterthe3rdcalibrationpointissuccessfullysavedonlythe
DONEbuttonwillappear.Tappingthisbuttonendsthe
calibration.
C. Single-Point Calibration.
1. Usingeither4,7,or10pHbuffer,performthecalibrationasdescribedinsteps1
through9ofSectionB.
2. Afterthecalibrationpointissuccessfullysaved,taptheDONEbutton
D. Factory Calibration
WhenpHbuffersarenotavailable,thePTBT2canbereturnedtofactorydefault
calibrationusingtheFACCALfunction.Thiswillerasestoredwetcalibrationconstants.
NOTE:defaultfactorycalibrationresetstheelectronicsonlyanddoesNOTtakethe
conditionofthesensorintoconsideration.

MAINTENANCE
I. Battery Replacement
ThePTBT2Appdisplayhas an indicatorthatdepictsthepenbattery’s charge level.
Whenthechargelevelfallsbelow25%,theindicatorwillashred.Imediatelyreplace
thebatterywithannewNtypebattery.
1. InaCLEAN DRYplaceunscrewthebatterycapinacounter-clockwisemotion.
2. Slidethebatteryandbatteryhousingoutofthepen.
3. Removethedepletedbatteryfromitshousing.
4. Insertanewbatteryintothebatteryhousingorientedwiththenegativeendtouching
thespring.
5. Alignthegroovealongthebatteryhousingwiththeguidebumpinsidethepencase
andslidethebatteryhousingbackin.
6. Screwthebatterycapbackoninaclockwisedirection.

II. Routine Maintenance
1. ALWAYSrinsethepHsensorwithcleanwateraftereachuse.
2. ALWAYSreplacethesoakercaphalffilledwithpHSensorStorageSolutionto
preventthesensorfromdryingoutaftereachuse.

cottonswab.Thenrinsethoroughlywithcleanwater.
