WL12/D DISPLAY UNIT
MANUAL
Model: WL12/D
PREFACE
Thank you for buying Navis anemometer. This manual provides information for the best performance and safe application of the
anemometer display unit. This manual does not cover the anemometer sensors for which the manuals will come separately.
Read this manual carefully before starting the installation. Keep this manual after installation for future reference.
INTRODUCTION
WL12/D is long range receiver/display unit which receive data from NAVIS wind sensor, displays various wind data and store them on
micro SD card. It can be powered by batteries or by micro USB adapter (not enclosed). Built-in battery back-up ensure that the set time
is not reset in case of power interruptions or when unit is switched off.

WL12/D is compatible with NAVIS wind sensors: WS 010-1 (wind speed sensor, standard range), WS 011-1 (wind speed sensor,
extended range), WSD 010-1 (wind speed/direction sensor, standard range), WSD 011-1 (wind speed/direction sensor, extended range).
MOUNTING
Select the position where the signal reception is strong enough under all conditions.
There are two holes on back panel of display unit intended for wall mounting (screws are not included).
Display unit can be mounted to the ferrous surface with mounting magnets (optional accessories).
ANTENNA CONNECTION
Connect antenna to SMA connector on display unit only when power supply is switched OFF.
OPERATION
Display unit receives wind and temperature data from sensor, calculates average values and stores them to the memory card. Current
data received from sensor, as well as part of the wind speed history are presented on LCD display. Detailed data in selected interval
are stored on SD card.
All operating parameters can be set using three keys on the receiver unit.
If the display unit is delivered as set, with sensor included, the correct sensor address is already set.
Otherwise please set first the correspondent sensor address. Check the address settings procedure in chapter “SETTINGS”.
Fresh wind data from active sensor are received every two seconds. If data are not received for more than 20 seconds,
“No data” appears on the display.
SWITCHING ON
Hold pressed the F key for more than 3 seconds for switch ON the unit.
SWITCHING OFF
In the setting menu select “Yes” and confirm to power OFF the unit. Real time clock will continue, graphs will reset and data on SD
card will remain.

DISPLAY
With short presses of Fkey you can switch between pages to see various data history. 7. 6.

DISPLAY ILLUMINATION
Shortly press key with light icon to switch ON and OFF the display illumination
DISPLAY AUTO OFF
Activate this mode in the setting menu to prolong battery life. Using this mode, the display switches OFF after 2 minutes of inactivity.
All other functions stay active. Display switches ON with each press of the key.
Also in display OFF state the LED signalize data reception.
SIGNAL RECEPTION
Reed LED blinks when the display unit receives a signal from the sensor (every 2 seconds if reception is good).
Signal strength is numerically shown in dB:
•-105 dB is approximately the limit where display unit stops receiving
• -100 dB and lower means very week signal
• -95 ... -90 dB is considered as still acceptable
• -85 dB and higher is a good signal
When the sensor doesn't send data (in OFF state) or when the signal is lost for a more than 20 seconds, the “dashes” appears on the
display, indicating that the receiver doesn’t receive data from the sensor (sensor OFF or out of range).
RANGE
Connection between sensor and display unit works on free 868 MHz band. Reach is up to 300 meters (1000 meters with extended
range sensor and longer antenna) - at 10 m sensor mounting height and when there is no obstacle between the sensor and the display
unit. Inside buildings the range is much shorter. Normally the signal can be received through two to three walls.
POWER SUPPLY
Unit can be battery or external powered, via micro USB connector. Built in Lithium 3 V battery ensures real time clock even in case of
power interruption or during battery changing.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Double blinks of LED diode marks that either - the sensor or the receiver battery should be changed.
Battery icon on LCD indicates the empty state of receiver batteries.
Alternating sign “S” with battery icon on LCD indicates the empty state of sensor battery.
Battery replacement of display unit:
Unscrew all 4 screws on backside of display unit enclosure and remove the back panel. Replace the batteries for display unit operation
(4 x 1,5V AA Alkaline) or for display unit real time clock battery back-up (1 x 3 V CR2032).
Place the rear panel of display unit in position and tighten 4 screws.
RESET OF DISPLAY UNIT
With middle button pressed while inserting batteries in display unit –RESET is performed (all settings except »Sensor Address« and
»Calibration factors« goes to default values).

SETTINGS
1. Hold pressed the F key to enter the setting menu.
2. By up and down keys select the parameter you wish to adjust and press F key to enter into selected parameter. The adjustable
parameter blinks.
3. By up and down key adjust the parameter value. Press F to enter new value and move to next parameter.
4. Exiting setting menu: hold pressed the F key to move back for one level.
Anemometer also returns to normal operation after 2 minutes of inactivity.

STORING TO SD CARD
Data in .txt format are stored to SD card every full hour. Each data has date and time stamp.
Logging interval is selectable from 10 sec to 1h. Data are stored in the .txt format and are suitable for processing in programs for
working whit spreadsheet (Excel, Open office, etc...).
Mark “NA” in logged data present missed wind data for marked interval.
Mark “nW” in logged wind direction data present undefined wind direction caused of no wind speed.
There is a rare possibility that individual logged packets could be corrupt due to external causes.
It is recommended to eliminate them during processing logged data.
For each using of new type SD card it is recommended to test writing data to SD card.
STORE DATA FROM SD CARD
It is recommended to store data from SD card every month for preventing data loss because of empty battery in receiver or other
external factors.
DESCRIPTION OF DATA STORED ON SD CARD
[WS]: average wind speed in selected units and logging interval
[WSm]: maximum wind speed in selected units and logging interval
[WSt]: average temperature in selected units and selected logging interval
[WD]: average wind direction in selected logging interval
[RSSI]: average signal strength in selected logging interval
[dd/mm/yyyy]: day/month/year of created logged data
[hh:mm:ss]: hours:minutes:seconds of created logged data
EXAMPLE OF DATA STORED ON SD CARD
Example of logged first 10 wind data from WSD sensor in 10s logging interval. Average [WS] and maximum [WSm] wind speed data
