1. PREVENTIONOFELECTRO STATICDISCHARGE

(ESD) TO ELECTROSTATICALLYSENSITIVE (ES)

DEVICES

Somesemiconductor (solidstate)devices canbedamagedeasilybystaticelectricity. Such

componentscommonlyarecalledElectrostaticallySensitive (ES)Devices. Examples oftypical

ES devices areintegratedcircuitsand somefield-effecttransistorsand semiconductor "chip"

components. Thefollowing techniques shouldbeusedtohelpreduce theincidence of

componentdamagecausedbyelectro staticdischarge(ESD).

1. Immediatelybeforehandling anysemiconductorcomponentor

semiconductor-equippedassembly, drainoff anyESDon your

bodybytouching aknownearthground. Alternatively, obtainand

wearacommerciallyavailabledischarging ESDwrist strap, which

shouldberemovedforpotential shock reasonspriortoapplying

powertotheunitundertest.

2. Afterremoving anelectrical assemblyequippedwithES devices,

place theassemblyon aconductivesurface suchas aluminum

foil, topreventelectrostaticchargebuildup orexposureofthe

assembly.

3. Use onlyagrounded-tipsoldering iron tosolderorunsolderES

devices.

4. Use onlyanantistaticsolderremoval device. Somesolderremoval

devices notclassifiedas "antistatic(ESDprotected)"cangenerate

electrical chargesufficienttodamageES devices.

5. Donotuse freon-propelledchemicals. These cangenerate

electrical charges sufficienttodamageES devices.

6. DonotremoveareplacementES device fromits protective

packageuntil immediatelybeforeyou arereadytoinstall it. (Most

replacementES devices arepackagedwithleadselectrically

shortedtogetherbyconductivefoam, aluminumfoil orcomparable

conductivematerial).

7. Immediatelybeforeremoving theprotectivematerial fromthe

leadsofareplacementES device, touchtheprotectivematerial to

thechassisorcircuitassemblyintowhichthedevice will be

installed.

CAUTION:

Besureno powerisappliedtothechassisorcircuit, and observe

all othersafetyprecautions.

8. Minimizebodilymotionswhenhandling unpackagedreplacement

ES devices. (Otherwise harmless motion suchas thebrushing

togetherofyourclothes fabricorthelifting ofyourfootfroma

carpetedfloorcangenerate staticelectricity(ESD)sufficientto

damageanES device).

2. SAFETYPRECAUTIONS

GENERALGUIDELINES

1. IMPORTANTSAFETYNOTICE

Therearespecial components usedinthisequipmentwhichare

importantforsafety. These parts aremarkedbyinthe

SchematicDiagrams, CircuitBoardLayout, ExplodedViewsand

ReplacementParts List. Itisessential that these critical parts

shouldbereplacedwithmanufacturer’sspecifiedparts toprevent

X-RADIATION, shock, fire, orotherhazards. Donotmodifythe

original design withoutpermission ofmanufacturer.

2. AnIsolation Transformershouldalwaysbeusedduring the

servicing ofACAdaptorwhose chassisisnotisolatedfromtheAC

powerline. Use atransformerofadequate powerrating as this

protects thetechnicianfromaccidents resulting inpersonal injury

fromelectrical shocks. Itwill alsoprotect ACAdaptorfrombeing

damagedbyaccidental shorting that mayoccurduring servicing.

3. Whenservicing, observetheoriginal leaddress. Ifashortcircuit

isfound, replace all parts whichhavebeenoverheatedor

damagedbytheshortcircuit.

4. Afterservicing, see toitthat all theprotectivedevices suchas

insulation barriers, insulation papersshieldsareproperlyinstalled.

5. Afterservicing, make thefollowing leakagecurrentchecks to

preventthecustomerfrombeing exposedtoshock hazards.

LEAKAGE CURRENTCOLDCHECK

1. Unplug theACcordand connect ajumperbetweenthetwoprongs

on theplug.

2. Measuretheresistance value, withanohmmeter, betweenthe

jumperedACplug and eachexposedmetalliccabinet parton the

equipmentsuchas screwheads, connectors, control shafts, etc.

Whentheexposedmetallicparthas areturnpathtothechassis,

thereading shouldbebetween1M and 5.2M . Whenthe

exposedmetal does nothaveareturnpathtothechassis, the

reading must beinfinity.

LEAKAGE CURRENTHOTCHECK

(See Figure1.)

1. Plug theACcorddirectlyintotheACoutlet. Donotuse an

isolation transformerforthischeck.

2. Connect a1.5k , 10 Wresistor, inparallel witha0.15 F

capacitor, betweeneachexposedmetallicparton theset and a

good earthground, as showninFigure1.

3. Use anACvoltmeter, with1k /Vormoresensitivity, tomeasure

thepotential across theresistor.

4. Check eachexposedmetallicpart, and measurethevoltageat

eachpoint.

5. Reverse theACplug intheACoutlet and repeat eachoftheabove

measurements.

6. Thepotential at anypointshouldnotexceed0.75 VRMS. A

leakagecurrenttester(Simpson Model 229 orequivalent) maybe

usedtomake thehotchecks, leakagecurrentmust notexceed1/2

mA. Incase ameasurementisoutsideofthelimits specified, there

isapossibilityofashock hazard, and theequipmentshouldbe

repairedand recheckedbeforeitisreturnedtothecustomer.

4. SERVICE NOTES (PLEASE READ)

4.1. SERVICENOTES

4.1.1. EXTENSIONCABLES FORSERVICE POSITION

Using thefollowing Extension Cables, place theunitas shownfor check and service.

Extension Cables (No.5~No.8)areusedfor improving serviceability. (They arenotnecessarily

used.)

Note:

1. TheLCD open/close SW. isforchanging betweenLCD Displayor

EVFDisplay. Whenturning on LCD Display, place somepaperor

tape, etc. on LCD open/close SW. sothat thisSW. staysON.

2. Connect theF.P.C.stotheconnectors, verifying thedirection of

F.P.C. as shown.

3. Use agroundedESDwrist strapwhiledisassembling theLens

portion.

4. Use extremecarewhenunplugging orplugging inconnectors.

Whilebatteryremains, theErrorNo. will bedisplayedagainwhen

thepowerisswitchedoff and on again. (Once theBatteryis

removedordead, ErrorNo. will notremaininthememory.)

4.1.3. REMOVAL/INSTALLATIONOFF.P.C. FROMNONZIF(Zero Insertion Force)

CONNECTOR

Removal/Installation ofF.P.C. from theNon ZIF(Zero Insertion Force)connector:

1. TheNon ZIFconnectorsand theZIFconnectorsareusedon the

unit. And thereare2types (TypeA, TypeB)ofNon ZIFconnectors.

2. To removetheF.P.C. fromtheNon ZIFconnector, use thePlierfor

Non ZIFConnector(LSVQ0028) topull outtheF.P.C. as shown.

ThesamePlierforNon ZIFConnector(LSVQ0028) shouldalsobe

usedtoinstall theF.P.C. totheNon ZIFConnector.
