1.1. General Guidelines

1. IMPORTANTSAFETYNOTICE/ Therearespecial components

usedinthisequipmentwhichareimportantforsafety. These parts

aremarkedbyintheSchematicDiagrams, CircuitBoardLayout,

ExplodedViewsand ReplacementParts List. Itisessential that

these critical parts shouldbereplacedwithmanufacturer’s

specifiedparts topreventX-RADIATION, shock fire, orother

hazards. Donotmodifytheoriginal design withoutpermission of

manufacturer.

2. AnIsolation Transformershouldalwaysbeusedduring the

servicing ofACAdaptorwhose chassisisnotisolatedfromtheAC

powerline. Use atransformerofadequate powerrating as this

protects thetechnicianfromaccidents resulting inpersonal injury

fromelectrical shocks. Itwill alsoprotect ACAdaptorfrombeing

damagedbyaccidental shorting that mayoccurduring servicing.

3. Whenservicing, observetheoriginal leaddress. Itashortcircuit

isfound, replace all parts whichhavebeenoverheatedor

damagedbytheshortcircuit.

4. Afterservicing, see toitthat all theprotectivedevices suchas

insulation barriers, insulation papersshieldsareproperlyinstalled.

5. Afterservicing, make thefollowing leakagecurrentchecks to

preventthecustomerfrombeing exposedtoshock hazards.

2. Warning

2.1. Prevention ofElectroStaticDischarge(ESD)toElectrostatically

/ Sensitive(ES)Devices

Somesemiconductor (solidstate)devices canbedamagedeasilybystaticelectricity. Such

componentscommonlyarecalledElectrostaticallySensitive (ES)Devices. Examples oftypical

ES devices areintegratedcircuitsand somefield-effecttransistorsand semiconductor “chip”

components. Thefollowing techniques shouldbeusedtohelpreduce theincidence of

componentdamagecausedbyelectro staticdischarge(ESD).

1. Immediatelybeforehandling anysemiconductorcomponentor

semiconductor-equippedassembly, drainoff anyESDon your

bodybytouching aknownearthground. Alternatively, obtainand

wearacommerciallyavailabledischarging ESDwrist strap, which

shouldberemovedforpotential shock reasonspriortoapplying

powertotheunitundertest.

2. Afterremoving anelectrical assemblyequippedwithES devices,

place theassemblyon aconductivesurface suchas aluminum

foil, topreventelectrostaticchargebuildup orexposureofthe

assembly.

3. Use onlyagrounded-tipsoldering iron tosolderorunsolderES

devices.

4. Use onlyanantistaticsolderremoval device. Somesolderremoval

devices notclassifiedas “antistatic(ESDprotected)”cangenerate

electrical chargesufficienttodamageES devices.

5. Donotuse freon-propelledchemicals. These cangenerate

electrical charges sufficienttodamageES devices.

6. DonotremoveareplacementES device fromits protective

packageuntil immediatelybeforeyou arereadytoinstall it. (Most

replacementES devices arepackagedwithleadselectrically

shortedtogetherbyconductivefoam, aluminumfoil orcomparable

conductivematerial).

7. Immediatelybeforeremoving theprotectivematerial fromthe

leadsofareplacementES device, touchtheprotectivematerial to

thechassisorcircuitassemblyintowhichthedevice will be

installed.

CAUTION:

Besureno powerisappliedtothechassisor circuit, and observe all othersafetyprecautions.

8. Minimizebodilymotionswhenhandling unpackagedreplacement

ES devices. (Otherwise harmless motion suchas thebrushing

togetherofyourclothes fabricorthelifting ofyourfootfroma

carpetedfloorcangenerate staticelectricity(ESD)sufficientto

damageanES device).

2.2. Service caution basedon legal restrictions

2.2.1. General description aboutLeadFree Solder(PbF)

Theleadfree solderhas beenusedinthemounting process ofall electrical componentson the

printedcircuitboardsusedfor thisequipmentinconsidering thegloballyenvironmental

conservation.

Thenormal solderisthealloyoftin(Sn)and lead(Pb). Ontheotherhand, theleadfree solderis

thealloymainlyconsistsoftin(Sn), silver(Ag)and Copper(Cu), and themelting pointofthelead

free solderishigherapprox.30 degrees C(86°F)morethanthatofthenormal solder.

Definition ofPCB LeadFree Solderbeing used

Theletterof“PbF”isprintedeitherfoil sideor componentssideon thePCB

using theleadfree solder.

(See rightfigure)

Service caution for repairworkusing LeadFree Solder(PbF)

-Theleadfree solderhas tobeusedwhenrepairing theequipment

forwhichtheleadfree solderisused.

(Definition:Theletterof“PbF”isprintedon thePCB using thelead

free solder.)

-To putleadfree solder, itshouldbewell moltenand mixedwiththe

original leadfree solder.

-Removetheremaining leadfree solderon thePCB cleanlyfor

soldering ofthenew IC.

-Since themelting pointoftheleadfree solderishigherthanthat of

thenormal leadsolder, ittakes thelongertimetomelttheleadfree

solder.

-Use thesoldering iron (morethan70W)equippedwiththe

temperaturecontrol aftersetting thetemperatureat 350±30

degrees C(662±86°F).

RecommendedLeadFree Solder(Service PartsRoute.)

-Thefollowing 3types ofleadfree solderareavailablethrough the

service parts route.
