Introduction

Thanks to its compact, lightweight design, this iron is ideal for quick

ironing jobs or for taking it along in its handy pouch when you are

travelling.

The iron can safely be used at all mains voltages (110-120V/220-240V),

as it is equipped with a voltage selector. If needed, suitable adapter

plugs are available from Philips dealers, service centres, hotel receptions

or hardware shops.

Important

Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and

save them for future reference.

◗Check if the dual voltage selector has been set to the local mains

voltage before you connect the appliance.

You can use a coin to adjust the voltage selector to the local mains

voltage.

◗It is advisable to always reset the selector to position 220/240

after use. This will prevent damage if the iron is inadvertently

connected to the wrong voltage.

◗Do not use the appliance if the plug, the cord or the appliance

itself shows visible damage or if the appliance has been dropped.

◗Check the cord regularly for possible damage.

◗If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a

service centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons

in order to avoid a hazard.

◗Never leave the iron unattended when it is connected to the

mains.

◗Never immerse the iron in water.

◗Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.

◗Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not

play with the appliance.

◗This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm

persons without supervision.

◗The soleplate of the iron can become extremely hot and may

cause burns if touched.

◗Do not allow the cord to come into contact with the soleplate

when it is hot.

◗When you have finished ironing, when you clean the appliance

and also when you leave the iron even for a short while: put the

iron on its heel and remove the mains plug from the wall socket.

◗Always place and use the iron on a stable, level and horizontal

surface.

◗This appliance is not intended for regular use.

Before first use

1Remove any sticker or protective foil from the soleplate and

clean the soleplate with a soft cloth.

The iron may give off some smoke when you use it for the first time.

This will cease after a short while.

Preparing for use

Unfolding the handgrip

1Unfold the handgrip by pulling it up ('click') (fig. 2).

Setting the temperature

1Check the laundry care label for the required ironing

temperature.

2Set the temperature control to the required ironing temperature

(fig. 3).

3Place the iron on its heel.

4Put the mains plug in an earthed wall socket.

Tips

- If the article consists of various kinds of fibres, always select the

temperature required by the most delicate fibre, i.e. the lowest

temperature. If, for example, the fabric consists of 60% polyester

and 40% cotton, it should be ironed at the temperature indicated

for polyester (2).

- If you do not know what kind or kinds of fabric an article is made

of, determine the right ironing temperature by ironing a part that

will not be visible when you wear or use the article.

- Silk, woollen and synthetic materials: iron the reverse side of the

fabric to prevent shiny patches.

- Fabrics that tend to acquire shiny patches should be ironed in one

direction only (along with the nap) while applying very little

pressure.

- Start ironing the articles that require the lowest ironing

temperature, i.e. those made of synthetic materials.

Using the appliance

Ironing

1Select the required ironing temperature (see section 'Setting the

temperature').

2Let the iron heat up for approx. two minutes.

3Start ironing (fig. 4).

BIroning will be easier and will take less time if you moisten the article

first, for example by spraying some water onto it.

Ironing without ironing board

When you are travelling, an ironing board will often not be at hand. In

that case, spread a folded terrycloth towel on a firm, flat surface.

Make sure that the surface is heat- and moisture-resistant. Do not use a

glass or plastic surface.

Cleaning

1Put the iron on its heel.

2Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and let the iron

cool down for at least 30 minutes.

3Clean the appliance with a damp cloth.

Storage

1Put the iron on its heel (fig. 5).

2Make sure the iron is unplugged and has cooled down.

3Push the handgrip support in the direction of the arrow (fig. 6).

4Press down the handgrip (fig. 7).

5Store the appliance in the pouch.

Environment

◗Do not throw the appliance away with the normal household

waste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection

point for recycling. By doing this you will help to preserve the

environment (fig. 8).
