Neverllthekettlebeyondthemaximumlevelindication.Ifthekettle
hasbeenoverlled,boilingwatermaybeejectedfromthespoutand
causescalding.
Donotopenthelidwhilethewaterisheatingup.Becarefulwhen
youopenthelidimmediatelyafterthewaterhasboiled:thesteam
thatcomesoutofthekettleisveryhot.
Donottouchthebodyofthekettleduringandsometimeafteruse,
asitgetsveryhot.Alwaysliftthekettlebyitshandle.
Alwaysmakesurethewaterinthekettleatleastcoversthebottom
ofthekettletopreventthekettlefromboilingdry.
Dependingonthehardnessofthewaterinyourarea,smallspots
mayappearontheheatingelementofyourkettlewhenyouuseit.
Thisphenomenonistheresultofscalebuild-upontheheating
elementandontheinsideofthekettleovertime.Theharderthe
water,thefasterscalebuildsup.Scalecanoccurindifferentcolours.
Althoughscaleisharmless,toomuchscalecaninuencethe
performanceofyourkettle.Descaleyourkettleregularlybyfollowing
theinstructionsgiveninchapter‘Descaling’.

Boil-dry protection
Thiskettleisequippedwithboil-dryprotection.Thisdeviceautomatically
switchesoffthekettleifitisaccidentallyswitchedonwhenthereisno
waterornotenoughwaterinit.Liftthekettlefromitsbaseandllitwith
watertoresetboil-dryprotection.Thekettleisnowreadyforuseagain.
Electromagnetic elds (EMF)
ThisPhilipsappliancecomplieswithallstandardsregarding
electromagneticelds(EMF).Ifhandledproperlyandaccordingtothe
instructionsinthisusermanual,theapplianceissafetousebasedon
scienticevidenceavailabletoday.
Before rst use
1 Remove stickers, if any, from the base or the kettle.
2 Placethebaseonadry,stableandatsurface.
3 Usethecordwindertoadjustthelengthofthecord(Fig.2).
Turnthecordwinderclockwisetomakethecordshorteror
anticlockwisetomakeitlonger.
4 Rinse the kettle with water.
5 Fillthekettlewithwateruptothemaximumlevelandletitboil
once(seechapter‘Usingtheappliance’).
6 Pouroutthehotwaterandrinsethekettleoncemore.
Using the appliance
1 Removethelid(Fig.3).
Turnthelidanticlockwiseuntilthelineontopofthekettleisalignedwith
thelineonthelidthatindicatesthe‘open’position.
2 Fillthekettlewithwater(Fig.4).
Note: You can also ll the kettle through the spout.
3 Putthelidbackontothekettle(Fig.5).

Putthelidonthekettleandturnthelidclockwiseuntilthelineontopof
thekettleisalignedwiththelineonthelidthatindicates
the‘close’position.
4 Placethekettleonitsbaseandputthepluginthewallsocket.
Theapplianceisnowreadyforuse.
Boiling water
Toboilwater,youonlyhavetodoonething:
1 Presstheon/offbutton.(Fig.6)
Thelightringaroundtheon/offbuttonlightsupandthe100°C
lightstartstoashtoindicatethatthekettleisheatingupwaterto
boilingpoint(Fig.7).
Whilethewaterheatsup,thecurrenttemperatureisshownbythe
numberoflightsthatareon.The100°Clightcontinuesto
ash(Fig.8).
2 Thekettlebringsthewatertotheboil.
Whenthewaterboils,youhearanaudiblesignalandthekettle
switchesoffautomatically.
Thelightaroundtheon/offbuttongoesoffandthe100°Clight
staysonfor120secondstoletyouknowthewaterhasjust
boiled(Fig.9).
Note: You can stop the heating process at any time by pressing the on/off
button or removing the kettle from the base. If you remove the kettle from
the base when it is operating, all settings are lost.
Setting the water temperature
WiththeSETTEMPbuttononthekettle,youcanheatupthewaterto
differenttemperatures:100°C(boilingwater),80°C,60°Cor40°C.
1 Makesurethekettleisempty.Thenllitwithcoldwater.
Tomakesurethekettleaccuratelyheatsupthewatertotheset
temperature,llthekettlewithatleast0.5lwater.
2 PresstheSETTEMPbuttononeormoretimestosetthedesired
temperature(Fig.10).

Thelightoftheselectedtemperaturelightsup.
Note: If you cannot set the desired temperature, the current temperature of
the water in the kettle is higher than the temperature you want to set. The
current temperature is shown by the number of lights that are on.
3 Presstheon/offbuttontoswitchontheappliance(Fig.6).
Note: If you do not press the on/off button within 10 seconds after setting
the temperature, the set temperature is lost.
Whilethewaterheatsup,thecurrenttemperatureisshownbythe
numberoflightsthatareonandthelightofthesettemperature
ashes.(Fig.11)
Whenthekettlehasreachedthesettemperature,youhearan
audiblesignal(onebeep)andthekettleswitchesoffautomatically.
Thelightringaroundtheon/offbuttongoesoff.
Thelightofthesettemperaturestaysonfor120secondstolet
youknowthewaterhasjustreachedthepresettemperature.
Youcanadjustthesettemperaturewhilethekettleisoperating.Thisis
onlypossibleifthetemperatureofthewaterisstillbelowthenewlyset
temperature.
Note: If you remove the kettle from the base, the set temperature is lost.
Keeping water warm
Youcanusethekeep-warmfunctiontokeepwaterwarmata
temperatureof100°,80°,60°Cor40°C.
Therearetwowaystokeepwaterwarm:atthecurrenttemperature,or
atatemperaturehigherthanthecurrenttemperature.
Onlyusethekeep-warmfunctionwhenthereisatleast0.5lwaterin
the kettle. If there is too little water in the kettle, the kettle may switch
offwithin30minutestoprotecttheheatingelement.
