The Philips ActiveProtect straightener comes with removable Care Infusion
Covers that are activated by the heat of the straightener to release
conditioning ingredients. As a result, you feel your hair is softer and shinier.
We hope you will enjoy using your Philips ActiveProtect straightener and
the Care Infusion Covers.

Important
Read this user manual carefully before you use the
appliance and save it for future reference.
Danger
- Never immerse the appliance in water or any
other liquid and do not rinse it under the tap.
- Do not use this appliance near water.
Do not use this appliance near bathtubs, showers,
basins or other vessels containing water.
ENGLISH
- When you use the appliance in a bathroom,
unplug it after use.The proximity of water presents
a risk, even when the appliance is switched off.
Warning
- Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance
corresponds to the local mains voltage before you
connect the appliance.
- Check the condition of the mains cord regularly.
Do not use the appliance if the plug, the mains
cord or the appliance itself is damaged.
- If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it
replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by
Philips or similarly qualied persons in order to
avoid a hazard.
- This appliance can be used by children aged from
8 years and above and persons with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of
experience and knowledge if they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use of the
appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards
involved. Children shall not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made
by children without supervision.
- Be careful when you use the appliance, as it can
become extremely hot.Avoid contact with the skin
and only hold the handle.
- Keep the appliance away from non-heat-resistant
surfaces and never cover the appliance with anything
(e.g. a towel or clothing) when it is hot.
- Keep the appliance away from ammable objects
and material when it is switched on.
- Never leave the appliance unattended when
it is plugged in.
Caution
- Always return the appliance to a service centre
authorized by Philips for examination or repair.
Repair by unqualied people could result in an
extremely hazardous situation for the user.

- The maximum temperature occurs just after
heating up.The actual temperature during use may
be lower.
- Only use the appliance on dry hair.
Do not operate the appliance with wet hands.
- It is not recommended to use the appliance on
articial hair. If you want to use the appliance on
articial hair, always consult the distributor of the
articial hair.
- Do not leave the plates in your hair for more than
few seconds at a time as this may cause damage to
your hair.
- Always unplug the appliance after use.
- Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance
and avoid it from coming into contact with hot
parts of the appliance.
- Keep the heating plates clean and free of dust
and styling products such as mousse, spray and
gel. Never use the appliance in combination with
styling products.
- The straightener heating plates have a coating.
This coating may wear away slowly over time.
This does not affect the performance of the
appliance.
- Wait until the appliance has cooled down before
you attach or detach the Care Infusion Covers.
- Wait until the appliance has cooled down before
you store it.
- If you use the appliance on colour-treated hair,
the heating plates may become stained.
- Do not insert metal objects into openings to avoid
electric shock.
- Do not use metallic or sharp objects to remove
the Care Infusion Covers.
- Do not use the appliance for any other purpose
than described in this manual.
- If the Care Infusion Covers are damaged or broken,
replace with new covers.

- Never use any accessories or parts from other
manufacturers or that Philips does not specically
recommend. If you use such accessories or parts,
your guarantee becomes invalid.
- Keep the packaging for future reference.
- Use the Care Infusion Covers within 3 months
after opening their packaging.

This Philips appliance complies with all applicable standards and regulations
regarding exposure to electromagnetic elds.
How to use the ActiveProtect straightener
Always remove the heat-resistant cap before you let the appliance heat up.
Note: Remove all packaging material from the appliance before you start using it.
1 If you want to use the straightener with the covers, attach the covers
carefully onto both heating plates. Only attach the covers when the
appliance is switched off and cold.
You can also use the appliance without the covers. However, to get the
best results, we advise you to use the straightener with the covers.
Only use the straightener on clean and dry hair without a leave-in product.
Note:Always check if the covers are properly attached onto the heating plates,
before heating up the appliance.

2 Put the plug in the wall socket.
3 Press and hold the on/off button for two seconds to switch on
the appliance.
The ‘Mid’ temperature setting starts ashing. When both covers are
attached correctly, the ‘care’ indicator lights up.
Never leave the appliance unattended when it is plugged in.
Always put the appliance on a heat-resistant surface when it is heating up
and when it is hot.
4 Press the temperature control button repeatedly to select the
desired temperature setting.
After about 15 seconds, the selected temperature setting stops ashing and
the straightener is ready for use.
Caution: Do not use the straightener before it has reached the set
temperature.

Use the table below to select the right temperature setting

Pale, blonde, bleached or colour-treated Low
5 Place a hair strand that is not wider that 5cm evenly between the
covers and press the handles rmly together.
6 Slide the straightener down the length of the hair in a single motion
from root to end (max. 5 seconds), without stopping to prevent
overheating.
Repeat this until you have straightened all your hair.
Note:The straightener has an automatic shut-off function and switches off
automatically after 60 minutes.
Care Infusion Covers
- The Care Infusion Covers release conditioning ingredients during
straightening when attached.
- The decoration on the covers fades slowly to tell you when you have
to replace the covers. The speed of fading is inuenced by the way you
use the straightener, as the covers are sensitive to the pressure applied
on the straightener during styling.Too much pressure can damage your
hair. If you apply too much pressure, the ‘empty’ indicator fades faster
than usual (see chapter ‘After use’, section ‘Replacing the covers’).
Too little pressure affects the styling performance of the appliance.
If you apply too little pressure, the ‘empty’ indicator does not fade,
even after multiple straightening sessions. Thus, the ‘empty’ indicator is
useful guide for you during straightening to apply the optimal pressure,
allowing you to achieve better performance while respecting your hair.
After use
Cleaning
1 Switch off the appliance and unplug it.
2 Place the appliance on a heat-resistant surface and let it cool down
completely.
3 Clean the appliance, plates and covers with a damp cloth.
4 Store the appliance in a safe and dry place or hang it from the
hanging loop.You can use the heat-resistant cap to keep the plates
and covers free of dust.
Removing the covers
- Do not remove the covers when they are still hot.Wait until the
straightener has cooled down before you remove the covers.
- Do not use metallic or sharp objects to remove the Care Infusion Covers.
- Slide the cover release buttons backwards to remove the covers.
