1 Summary:
The LC828 interface -module is an interface -board to connect two or
three LC828 (low current transmit/receiver) modules in a repeater or
linking configuration. It provides fused DC-power distribution to the
LC828 radio -module and a twelve position switch to change the
transmit/receive channel of the LC828.

3 Technical outline :
3.0 LC828 INTERFACE -MODULE:
The LC828 interface -module consists of the following
components :
Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
Connectors
Audio circuit
Input-protection
Channel change electronics
3.1 PRINTED CIRCUIT BOAR D (PCB)
The PCB has Trough-Hole Plating and electrical tracks on the
bottom and top of the PCB, and has the following dimensions:
60 mm wide X 98 mm long.
3.2 CONNECTORS :
The connectors provide interfacing to various external circuits:
J1 to J3:
Connect to the LC828 radio-modules (1 to 3 radios).
J4:
The fused Supply output for auxiliary equipment, e.g. a n
RF power amplifier to boost the TX signal.
J5: Power supply input.
3.3 AUDIO CIRCUIT :
Only one multiplexed wire is used to inter -connect the audio
from/to the radio-modules. No amplification or filtering takes
place.

3.4 INPUT PROTECTION :
A Transient diode on the Power-supply input protects the
LC828-module from supply voltage spikes, e.g. a lightning
discharge. If the input voltage exceeds 33 Volt, the Transient
diode starts to conduct, if a reversed voltage is applied then
the Transient diode acts like a normal diode, in both cases it
will blow the fuse (F1.) This diode can dissipate 1500 Watt for
1 mS.
3.5 CHANNEL CHANGE:
A twelve position rotary switch, voltage divider an d a buffer-IC
provide the control -voltage for the LC828 -modules.

4 Technical description:
Please refer to circuit diagrams 5.1,5.2 and 5.3 .
4.0 CONNECTORS :
J1 to J3, LC828 Radio Connector:
J1 to J3 are of the type D -shell, 9 pin, socket.
All the pins (except GND) are decoupled by 220nF; the a udio
pins are decoupled by 470pF.
J4 + J5, Power-supply:
4.1 AUDIO:
The TX/RX audio from the connectors J1 to J3 is connected
together, this is possible because the audio -buffer in the
LC828-module have an impedance of 1k Ohm. The audio-line
is decoupled at each connector (J1 – J3) with 470pF.
When a module is added or removed the audio -levels in the
LC828 have to be re -adjusted.

4.6 CHANNEL SWITCHING:
A voltage on J3.5 will select a channel in the LC828 -module.
The voltage can be in the range of 0 to 3.3 Volts (J3.4). The
maximum number of channels depends on the radio -model,
the number of channels programmed in the radio and the
software in the IOB . The current version supports maximum
ten channels. Cha nnel selection is according to the following
Channel-voltage list:

The internal reference voltage from the LC828 radio -module is
buffered by IC1A and used by the rotary-switch to produce the
required voltage.
R1a to R3a select which LC828 radio -module’s reference
voltage (3.3V) is used for the channel -change circuit , place
only one resistor (mutually exclusive .) according to the
following table.

R5 to R14 make a voltage divider according to the channel -
voltage list. The voltage selected by the twelve position rotary
switch is buffered by IC1B and fed to pin J1 -3.5 of the LC8282
radio-modules. IC1 receives its power-supply from the 7.5
Volt from the three paralleled outputs of the LC828 radio -
module (J1-3.2.)
