Note on electrostatic shielding

1. Electrostatically shielded MOS workstations

Components sensitive to electrostatic discharge

must be handled at workstation with electrostatic

shielding.Anelectrostatically shieldedMOSwork-

station is fitted with discharge resistor which earth

all conductive materials, including the technician

working there. Dielectrics are discharged by air

ionisation. The use of soldering irons and meas-

uring equipment at shielded workstation is only

possible in conjunction with isolating transformer

in each of the devices used. Measuring equip-

ment chassis are also earthed with discharge re-

sistors.

2. Shielded packaging using conductive

materials

To protect against electrostatic charges, electri-

cally conductive plastics are used for packaging

and transport purposes. Conductive plastics are

available in the form of transparent protective

bags, foam plastic, film sheeting or containers.

Sensitive components requiring the use of pro-

tective packaging must only be packed and un-

packed at shielded workstations.

Safety warnings/regulations

1. The repair, modification and testing of mains-op-

erated electronic devices and their accessories

must only be performed by qualified persons.

2. It is necessary to follow the regulations and safety

warnings to VDE 0701, part 200, as well as the

regulations and safety warnings applicable in the

country concerned.

3. VDE 0701, Part 2, contains regulations on the re-

pair, modification and testing of mains-operated

electronic devices and their accessories.

4. Before delivery, the device and the connecting

leads (including any protective earth conductor

fitted) must undergo visual inspection, and the

insulation resistance and the equivalent leak-

age current must be measured according to VDE

0701, part 200. The low-resistance continuity of

the protective earth conductor must be verified by

measurement to VDE regulation 0701, part 1.

5. The regulations of the country concerned must

also be observed.

6. Only genuine parts must be used for replacing

components marked with the symbol .

Precautions for using lead-free solder

1. Employing lead-free solder

„LCD CONT PWB“,“TMDS RX PWB“,“KEY PWB“,“R/C LED PWB“,“MOTOR PWB“,“INV PWB“,“POWER

PWB“of this model employs lead-free solder. The LF symbol indicates lead-free solder, and is attached on

the PWBs and service manuals. The alphabetical character following LF shows the type of lead-free solder.

Example:

Indicates lead-free solder of tin, silver and copper.

2. Using lead-free wire solder

When fixing the PWB soldered with the lead-free solder, apply lead-free wire solder. Repairing with conven-

tional lead wire solder may cause damage or accident due to cracks.

As the melting point of lead-free solder (Sn-Ag-Cu) is higher than the lead wire solder by 40ºC, we recom-

mend you to use a dedicated soldering bit, if you are not familiar with how to obtain lead-free wire solder or

sodening bit, contact our service station or service ranch in your area.

3. Soldering

As the melting point of lead-free solder (Sn-Ag-Cu) is about 220°C which is higher than the conventional

lead solder by 40°C, and as it has poor solder wettabillty, you may be apt to keep the soldering bit in contact

with the PWB for extended period of time. However, Since the land may be peeled off or the maximum heat-

resistance temperature of parts may be excoeded, remove the bit from the PWB as soon as you conurm the

steady soldering condition.

Lead-free solder contains more tin, and the end of the soldering bit may be easily corroded. Make sure to

turn on and off the power of the bit as required. if a different type of solder stays on the tip of the soldering

bit, it is alloyed with lead-free solder. Clean the bit after every use of it.

When the tip of the soldering bit is blackened during use, file it with steel wool or fine sandpaper.

Lead-free wire solder for servicing

Be careful when replacing parts with polarity indication on the PWB silk.

4 Lamp error detection

4.1 Feature description

This liquid-crystal colour TV incorporates a lamp error detection feature (lamp error detection) that

automatically turns OFF lamp drivers if one lamp fails.

If anything is wrong with the lamp or lamp circuit or when the lamp error detection failure is activated for

some reason, the following will result: All lamps are switched off the audio remains and green led keeps on.

After switching on and off lamps go on for around 1 sec. until lamp error detected.

4.2 Measures

a) With lamp error in on mode (green led on) its possible to check the power supply (15 V for lamp

inverters)

b) Test on inverter circuit is only possible in the first moment after switching on until protection circuit

cuts driver signals for all lamps.

A simple test to find out which lamp inverter does not work: Check with oscilloscope the signal direct-

ly on core of inverter transformers.

c) Resetting of lamp error counter

After successful repair of lamps or inverter circuits its helpful to reset the lamp error counter through

service mode: see page 8

For resetting go to LCD adjustments in servicemode. With T‚ go to panel service.

Press now first green button and then ok button on remote control (attention: for protection the green button

is not mentioned in on screen menue).

Red panel servicemenue comes up on screen.

Move cursor with Tdown to “L ERR Reset” and move to right side with X

Press any cursor to reset lamp error to “0”.
