1. Introduction
Perfectalignmentofmachineryshaftsiscrucialtopreventprematurebearingfailure,
shaftfatigue,sealingproblemsandvibrations.Itfurtherreducestheriskofover-heating
andexcessiveenergyconsumption.TheSKFShaftAlignmentToolTKSA40offersaneasy
andaccuratewayofadjustingtwounitsofrotatingmachinerysothattheshaftsofthe
unitsareinastraightline.
1.1 Principle of operation
TheTKSA40systemusestwomeasuringunitsbothprovidedwithalaserdiodeanda
positioningdetector.Astheshaftsarerotatedthrough180°anyparallelmisalignment
orangularmisalignmentcausesthetwolaserlinestodeectfromtheirinitialrelative
position.
Themeasurementsfromthetwopositioningdetectorsautomaticallyenterthelogic
circuitryinsidethedisplayunit,whichcalculatesthemisalignmentoftheshaftsand
advisesoncorrectivealignmentsofthemachinefeet.

Afterastraightforwardmeasuringprocedure,thetoolimmediatelydisplaysthe
misalignmentoftheshaftsandthenecessarycorrectiveadjustmentsofthefeetofthe
machine.Sincethecalculationsaredoneinrealtimetheprogressofthealignmentcanbe
followedlive.
1.2 Machine conguration
Duringthealignmentprocedurewewillrefertothepartofthemachinerywhichwill
beadjustedasthe“Movablemachine”.Theotherpartwewillrefertoasthe“Stationary
machine”.

theanalogyofaclockasviewedfrombehindtheMovablemachine.Theposition
withthemeasuringunitsinanuprightpositionisdenedas12o’clockwhile90°
leftorrightisdenedas9and3o’clock.
