FEATURES

With your Discriminator Metal detector, you can hunt for coins, relics,

jewelry, gold, and silver just about anywhere. The Discriminator Metal

Detector is versatile and easy to use.

The detector’s features include:

Headphone Jack – lets you connect headphones (not supplied) to the

detector.

Viewmeter and Pointer – shows the probable type of metal being

detected. A separate viewmeter meter display lets you know when it is time

to replace the batteries.

Three-Tone Audio Discrimination – sounds distinctive tones for different

types of metals, to make target identification easier.

Waterproof Search Coil – lets you use the detector’s search coil even if

you must put it under water.

Note: The search coil is waterproof, but the control housing is not water-

proof.

Adjustable Stem – lets you adjust the detector’s length for comfortable

use.

Note: Your metal detector requires three 9-volt alkaline batteries (not

supplied).

TREASURE HUNTER’ CODE OF ETHICS

All treasure hunters might be judged by the example you set. Here are a

few basic rules you should follow while using your detector.

Always get permission before searching any site.

Respect the rights and property of others.

Observe all national, state, and local laws while treasure hunting.

Never destroy historical or archaeological treasures. If you are not sure

about an object you have found, contact a museum or historical

society in your area.

Leave the land and vegetation as it was. Fill in any holes you dig.

Use your detector only in safe areas.

Dispose of any junk you find, only in approved areas. Do not leave it

for the next treasure hunter to find.

Indstillingen af denne knap vil derfor afhænge meget af hvad man leder

efter. Man skal blot være opmærksom på at jo højere der skrues op, jo

større er chancen for at mindre metalstykker overses, men man kan til

gengæld skelne mere præcist imellem større stykker af f.eks. aluminium og

guld.

PRÆCIS LOKALISERING AF FUNDEN METAL-GENSTAND.

Når der er et udslag på detektoren kan man ved at bevæge den på kryds

og tværs finde præcis det punkt hvor der er max. udslag, og det vil være

her metal-genstanden befinder sig. Vær desuden opmærksom på at

udslaget skal være konstant og ensartet. På grund af metaldetektorens

høje følsomhed kan der forekomme “falske” signaler, som kendes ved at de

kun forekommer periodisk.

Det er lidt sværere at finde ud af hvor dybt genstanden ligger i jorden. Bl.a.

fordi et metalstykke der har ligget længe i jorden, og dermed er oxideret, vil

give et svagere udslag end et nyt som er tabt fornylig. Det letteste er at lave

nogle forsøg, og dermed danne sig et indtryk af hvordan sammenhængen

mellem udslag og dybde er.

Forsøg aldrig at adskille apparatet, da en hver form for reklamationsret derved bortfalder. Af

samme grund må der heller ikke foretages konstruktive ændringer på apparatet. Følgeskader

eller tab foresaget af fejl på apparatet dækkes ikke. SkyTronic Scandinavia er ikke ansvarlig

for skader som skyldes misvedligeholdelse, uagtsomhed eller at anvisninger i denne

vejledning ikke er fulgt.

SENSITIVITY.

Med denne knap justeres detektorens evne til at finde metal på forskellig

dybde. For optimal detektions-dybde skal denne knap stilles så tæt på MAX

som muligt. Hvis der kommer en “skrattende” støj i højttaleren skrues der

ned for denne knap indtil støjen forsvinder.

GROUND.

Justering af denne knap er lidt tidskrævende, men er ret væsentlig, da den

giver mulighed for at undgå “falske” udslag på grund af højt mineral-indhold

i jorden.

Indstillingen foregår på denne måde :

Sæt knappen MODE i stilling VLF og sænk søgespolen så den er et par

centimeter over jorden.

Hvis viseren slår ud til højre drejes knappen GROUND mod venstre, og

hvis viseren slår ud til venstre drejes den mod højre.

Hæv søgespolen ca. 30 cm. over jorden og tryk på den røde knap så

viseren går tilbage til midterposition.

Ovenstående gentages indtil man finder den indstilling som gør at viseren

bliver i midterposition når søgespolen holdes ned mod jorden.

Når indstillingen er afsluttet er metaldetektoren tilpasset det sted hvor den

er foretaget, og skal først justeres igen hvis den skal bruges et andet sted

med anderledes jordsammensætning.

DISCRIMINATOR.

Det som denne knap grundlæggende justere, er hvor stor mængde metal

der skal være til stede før at detektoren reagerer på det, og med MODE i

stilling TR2 osse i høj grad dens evne til at adskille forskellige metaltyper.

PREPARATION

ASSEMBLING THE DETECTOR

Assembling your detector is easy and requires no special tools. Just follow

these steps.

1. Turn the stem’s lock nut clockwise until it loosens.

2. Lengthen or shorten the stem so when you stand upright with the

detector in your hand, the search coil is level with and about 1/2 to 2

inches above the ground with your arm relaxed at your side.

3. Turn the stem’s lock nut counter-clockwise to lock it in place.

4. Unscrew the knob on the search coil and remove the knobs and

connector. Insert the stem and align the holes on the search coil

bracket and the stem. Push the connector through the holes and tighten

the knob.

5. Wind the search coil cable around the stem. Leave enough slack in the

cable to let you adjust the search coil when you are hunting on uneven

ground.

6. Insert the search coil’s plug into the search coil jack on the detector’s

control housing. Be sure the pins on the plug align with the holes in the

jack.

Cautions:

♦The search coil’s plug fits into the connector only one way. Do not force

the plug or you could damage it.

♦To disconnect the search coil’s cable from the detector, grasp the plug

and pull it out of the connector. Never pull on the cable.

7. Loosen the knob at the search coil’s end, then adjust the search coil to

the desired angle. (The search coil should be parallel with the ground.)

tighten the knob just enough to keep the search coil from rotating or

wobbling.

Caution: Do not overtighten the search coil or use tools such as pliers

to tighten it.

8. Loosen the knob at the base of the handle, insert the arm support, and

tighten the knob.

INSTALLING BATTERIES

You need three 9-volt alkaline batteries to power your detector.

Cautions:

♦Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type.

♦Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard,

alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different

capacities.

1. If the detector is on, turn MODE to OFF.

Hold søgespolen ca. 5 cm over jorden og bevæg den langsomt fra side til

side.

Hold hele tiden søgespolen parallelt med jordoverfladen.

Lyt hele tiden efter lydsignalet og hold øje med viseren.

HUSK! Metaldetektoren reagerer på alle slags metaller også de værdiløse.

FIN-INDSTILLING AF DETEKTOREN.

Denne indstilling gør det lettere at skelne mellem forskellige metaller, og

lokalisere dem mere præcist, specielt når man først har lært

metaldetektoren at kende. Indstillingen gennemgås her knap for knap.

Hæv søgespolen mindst 30 cm over jorden. Tryk den røde knap på

håndtaget ind, og drej samtidig på TUNE indtil instrumentets viser står

præcis i midten. Slip den røde knap igen.

Det er en god ide at øve sig ved at prøve detektoren på nogle forskellige

metaller, og derved se hvordan den reagerer.

Dette gøres lettest ved at vende søgespolen opad og bevæge forskellige

metalstykker hen over den i en afstand af ca. 5 cm.

Hvis detektoren er indstillet korrekt høres nu en tone i højttaleren og viseren

giver udslag til enten venstre eller højre afhængig af om metallet er

jernholdigt eller ikke jernholdigt, og de tilhørende indikator-lamper (ferrous

og non-ferrous) vil lyse.

2. Press the right battery compartment cover’s tab and slide the cover off

in the direction of the arrow.

3. Place a 9-volt battery into the battery compartment on top of the

ribbon, matching the polarity symbols (+and-) marked inside.

4. Replace the right battery compartment cover

5. Press the left battery compartment cover’s tab and slide the cover off

in the direction of the arrow.

6. Place two 9-volt batteries into the battery compartment on top of the

ribbons, matching the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked.

7. Replace the left battery compartment cover.

Cautions:

♦Always remove old or weak batteries; batteries can leak chemicals that

can destroy electronic parts.

♦If you do not plan to use the detector for a week or more, remove the

batteries.

♦Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.

You can extend battery life by using headphones, which require less power

than the built-in speaker. See “Using Headphones” on Page 5.

Testing the Batteries

If the detector does no turn on, has weak volume, will not tune properly, has

erratic operation, or drifts, test the battery power.

Set MODE to VLF (very low frequency) To test the batteries in the left

battery compartment, set BATT TEST to B1. To test the battery in the right

battery compartment, set BATT TEST to B2.

If the Pointer on the view meter is within the BATT scale’s green area, the

batteries have enough power. If the pointer is now within the green area,

replace the batteries.

ADJUSTING THE METER

With MODE set to OFF, use a screw-driver to adjust the alignment control

until the pointer lines up with 0 on the scale.

SkyTronic metaldetektor kan skelne mellem jernholdige og ikke jernholdige

metaller. Når den detektere metal sker der en ændring i lyden og udslaget

på instrumentet viser metal-typen.

TÆND FOR DETEKTOREN.

Sæt først omskifteren BATT TEST i stilling OPERATE.

Drej knappen MODE mod højre til en af følgende positioner.

I stilling VLF kan man foretage batteritest samt indstilling af TUNE og

GROUND . Dette omtales andre steder i vejledningen.

I stilling TR1 er følsomheden lav og denne indstilling bruges til at

skelne mellem meget forskellige metaller såsom stål og guld. Stål giver

udslag på jernholdig (ferrous) skalaen og guld på ikke jernholdig (non-

ferrous) skalaen.

I stilling TR2 er følsomheden høj og der kan skelnes mere nøjagtigt

mellem metal-typer f. eks. aluminium og guld.

INDSTILLING AF DETEKTOREN.

Med knappen TUNE indstilles balancen mellem detektorens sender og

modtager. Denne indstilling er nødvendig for at sikre optimal funktion.

Sæt volume-knappen på kl. 10.

Sæt knappen MODE i stilling VLF.

Sæt knapperne GROUND, DISCRIMINATION, og SENSITIVITY i midter-

stilling.

Efter at have testet batterierne sættes omskifteren BATT TEST igen i

stilling OPERATE.

NULSTILLING AF DREJESPOLE-INSTRUMENT.

Det kan være nødvendigt at finjustere instrumentets nulpunkt. Det gøres

ved at slukke for metaldetektoren og dreje på skruen lige under

instrumentet med en passende skruetrækker, således at viseren står

præcis i midten (på nul)

HOVEDTELEFON.

Det er muligt at tilslutte en hovedtelefon, dette gøres i den lille jackbøsning

(3,5mm) mærket HEADPHONE. Brug af hovedtelefon forlænger

batteriernes levetid og gør det samtidig lettere at høre mindre variationer i

lyden.

Den indbyggede højttaler kobles fra når hovedtelefon-stikket sættes i.

USING HEADPHONES

You can connect a pair of stereo headphones (not supplied) to the detector

so you can listen to it privately. Using headphones also saves battery power

and makes it easier to identify subtle changes in the sounds you hear, for

better detection results. Your local SkyTronic store has a wide selection of

headphones.

To connect headphones to the detector, insert the headphones’ 1/8-inch

plug into the HEADPHONE jack on the side of the control housing.

The detector’s internal speaker disconnects when you connect

headphones.

Listening Safely

To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones.

♦Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After

you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level.

♦Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume

listening can lead to per-manent hearing loss.

♦Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt

to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort

might still damage your hearing.

Traffic Safety

Do not wear headphones while operating your detector near high-traffic

areas.

Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear some outside

sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still can present a

traffic hazard.

OPERATION

Your Discriminator Metal Detector distinguishes between ferrous and non-

ferrous metals. Ferrous metals contain. Iron, while non-ferrous metals such

as gold, silver, copper, platinum, aluminum, lead and zinc do not.

When the detector senses a metallic object, the meter reading changes, the

NON-FERROUS or FEFFOUS indicator turns on or off, and the detector

sounds one of three tones. The actual reaction depends on what metal is

detected. The higher the tone pitch, the stronger the detection.

PREPARING THE DETECTOR

Turning On the Detector

1. Set DATT TEST to OPERATE

2. Hold the detector in a comfortable position, then rotate MODE to the

desired position.

Set it to VLF to test battery power and adjust TUNE and GROUND.

(See “Tuning the Detector” and “Adjusting GROUND” on Page 7.)

Set it to TR1 to detect extreme differences in metals, such as between

iron and gold. The difference between iron and gold shows on the

meter (iron in the ferrous section, gold in the non-ferrous section).

Set it to TR2 to detect finer distinctions between metals, for example

between aluminum and gold (see “Adjusting SCRIMINATION” on Page

10).

Tuning the Detector

TUNE fine-tunes the balance between the detector’s receiver and

transmitter circuitry to provide consistent pointer and tone indications.

Follow these steps to set TUNE.

1. Rotate VOLUME to the 10 o’clock position.

2. Set MODE to VLF.

Der skal bruges 3 stk 9V batterier. Brug altid batterier af god kvalitet evt.

genopladelige. De 3 batterier SKAL deuden være af samme type.

Drej knappen MODE helt mod venstre (OFF).

Fjern dækslet fra det højre batterirum og isæt 1 stk 9V batteri. Vær

opmærksom på korrekt polaritet. Sæt dækslet på igen og gør på samme

måde i venstre batterirum, hvor der blot skal sidde 2 stk 9V batterier.

HUSK! Hvis metaldetektoren skal henligge i længere tid uden at blive brugt

bør batterierne fjernes.

BATTERITEST.

Hvis metaldetektoren ikke længere virker optimalt og lyden er lav/dårlig er

det sandsynligvis fordi batterierne skal udskiftes. Batterierne kan testes på

følgende måde.

Sæt MODE knappen i stilling VLF. Sæt BATT TEST omskifteren i stilling

B1 for at teste de to batterier i venstre side og i stilling B2 for at teste det

højre batteri. I begge tilfælde skal viseren give udslag i det grønne felt

mærket BATT ellers skal batterierne udskiftes.

Denne metaldetektor kan bruges til at finde mange forskellige slags

metaller, f.eks. mønter og smykker af guld eller sølv. Den er udstyret med

et drejespole-instrument til bestemmelse af metal-type samt batteri-

HUSK at følge gældende regler for hittegods samt

indhente fornøden tilladelse hvis “skattejagten”

foregår på privat område.

FORBEREDELSE TIL BRUG.

INDSTILLING AF TELESKOPSKAFT.

Løsn omløberen ved at dreje den venstre om.

Skyd skaftet ud så søgespolen kan holdes 2 – 5 cm over jorden uden at

man skal gå foroverbøjet.

Stram omløberen igen ved at dreje den højre om.

INDSTILLING AF SØGESPOLE.

Søgespolens forskruening løsnes, så den kan vippes til en vinkel parallelt

med jordens overflade, og skruen strammes igen.

3. Set GROUND, DISCRIMINATION, and SENSITIVITY to mid-range.

4. Hold the search coil at least 1 foot away from the ground and any metal

object, hold down the red button on the handle and slowly rotate TUNE

until the viewmeter pointer rests at or near 0.

As you search, you can fine-tune the detector using the other controls (see

“Fine-Tuning the Detector” on Page 9).

Note: Press the red button on the handle at any time during operation to

automatically return the pointer to the center of the viewmeter..

TESTING AND USING THE DETECTOR

To learn how the detector reacts to different metals, you should test it

before you use it the first time. You can test the detector indoors or

outdoors.

Indoor Testing

1. Remove any watches, rings, or other metal jewelry you are wearing, then

place the detector on a wooden or plastic table.

2. Adjust the search coil’s angle so the flat part faces the ceiling.

Note: Never test the detector on a floor inside a building. Most buildings

have metal of some kind in the floor, which might interfere with the

objects you are testing or mask the signal completely.

3. Set MODE to TR1.

4. Move a sample of the material you want the detector to find (such as a

gold ring or a coin) about 2 inches above the search coil.

Notes:

♦The search coil will not detect without motion. You must move object

since you are not sweeping with the detector at this time.

♦If you are using a coin, the detector detects it more easily if you hold it

so a flat side (not the edge) is parallel with the flat side of the search

coil.

If the detector detects the material, the NON-FERROUS and FERROUS

indicators flash and the pointer moves to FERROUS or NON-FERROUS

while the detector determines the type of metal it is detecting. If it detects

non-ferrous metal, it also sounds a tone.

If the detector does not detect the material, check the battery power and

verify that the search coil is properly connected. Also, you might need to

fine-tune the detector (see “Fine-Tuning the Detector” on Page 9).

Outdoor Testing and Use

1. Find an area on the ground outside where there is no metal.

2. Place a sample of the material you want the detector to find (such as a

gold ring or a coin) on the ground. (If you are using valuable metal such

as gold to test the detector, mark the area where you placed the item,

to help you find it later. Do not place it in tall grass or weeds.)

3. Set MODE to TR1.

4. While holding the search coil level and about 1-2 inches above the

ground, slowly move the search coil over the area where you placed

the sample, sweeping the search coil in a side-to-side motion.
