SMCGS1601

EZ SwitchTM 10/100/1000 Mbps

16 Port Unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet Switches

Product Overview

SMC introduces the latest Gigabit switch to the EZ Switch 10/100/1000 family –

the SMCGS1601. This switch provides Gigabit Ethernet connectivity from the network

backbone all the way to the edge and to individual desktops. With up to 10 times the

speed of 100 Mbps networks, this switch reduces transfer times of large data files and

boosts bandwidth-intensive applications, thereby significantly enhancing overall network

performance. Jumbo frame support enables more efficient data transfers with data

packets up to 9 KBytes in size. The SMC EZ Switch is easy to install and an ideal solution

for network migration, as it is equipped with 10/100/1000 Mbps Auto MDI/MDIX ports.

Not only is each port triple-speed, all ports can be either connected to a workstation or

another switch, without the need for cross-over cables. Providing non-blocking

wire-speed throughput, the switch can handle the growing performance needs of

emerging bandwidth-hungry applications.

Key Features and Benefits

IEEE 802.3az Energy-Efficient Ethernet Support

When two 802.3az-compliant switches are connected, up to

49%* of power consumption can be saved.

Support IEEE 802.1p Quality of Service

When the switch receives a frame tagged with an 802.1p

priority tag, it is placed the appropriate priority queue. Priority

queuing is useful in environments where time-sensitive data,

such as voice and video, are streamed across the network.

Application Diagram

Auto MDI/MDI-X on Each Port

Support for Auto MDI/MDIX means that no crossover

cables are required. Straight-through cables can be used

for all connections.

Metal Chassis Fan-less Design

The compact, rack mountable metal chassis is ideal for

desktop or rack mounting. In addition, the lack of fans

provides silent operation.

* According to an IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet

measurement test conducted by an independent testing

company, the SMCFS1601 and SMCFS2401 save up to

49% when each is compared to a non-Green Ethernet

switch.
