Opening and setting up the
fold-up solar panel
Open the fold-up solar panel by pulling the
velcro tab so the two solar cell faces (3 faces
for the 120w version) are revealed. Each solar
cell has a stand at the rear which can also be
deployed by pulling the it away from the
body of the fold-up jacket (held in position
by Velcro).
The fold-up solar panel has loops on
each corner to aid xing in position
when the panel is secured to the
windscreen of a camper with bungee
straps (not supplied). There are also
eyelet holes on each kick stand to peg
into grass or soil (pegs not included).
Connecting the fold-up solar panel
to a battery
Connect the cable attached to the fold-up
solar panel to the in-line charge controller
(Figs. 1 and 2) and run this to a point close to
the battery. Now connect using the crocodile
clips direct to the battery (Fig. 3) or, use
the 12v auto plug cable extension into a 12v
auto socket. Either extension can be left
permanently xed to a battery or, if preferred,
the clips can be removed from the cable and
replaced with ring terminals so a more secure
battery connection can be formed. Ensure the
correct battery polarity is observed. We use DC
cable which is colour coded Red for positive (+)
and Black for negative (-).

STFP60 fold-up solar panel shown below Charge controller
The in-line charge controller is fully water resistant
so can be positioned in wet grass etc. – but do
ensure it is never submerged in liquid.
The purpose of the in-line charge controller is to
ensure the fold-up solar panel does not overcharge
the battery and to prevent reverse current drain
during heavily overcast conditions or at night.
LED indicators
The LEDs illuminate in dierent ways and have
dierent meanings as follows:
20% flashing – generally this indicates a failed
or failing battery – change the battery.
20% solid and the rest flashing – shows the
battery is lower than 25% fully charged but
power is being delivered from the solar panel.
20% and 40% solid and the rest flashing –
shows the battery is more than 25% but less
than 50% fully charged but power is being
delivered from the solar panel.
20%, 40% and 60% solid and the rest flashing
– shows the battery is more than 50% but less
than 75% fully charged but power is being
delivered from the solar panel.
20%, 40%, 60% and 80% solid and the 100%
flashing – shows the battery is more than 75%
but less than 100% fully charged but power is
being delivered from the solar panel.
All LEDs solid – shows the battery is 100% fully
charged.
