Operation
Take up the slack of the hoist chain and visually check that the clamp is mounted correctly; and
that the hoist chain is not twisted, kinked, or frayed.
Stand clear while the load is lifted slightly. Visually check that the clamp is properly attached, the
load is balanced, and is secure to make the additional lift.
When the load has been placed on its new location, provide slack in the hoist chain and detach
the clamp by rotating the handle counter clockwise until the clamp is enough open to remove it.
Clamps are meant to provide a semi permanent suspension.
Although the clamps accept side forces, avoid side pulling as it might cause dangerous effects to
the beam.
Multiple lifting
Multiple lifting presents special risks. This is where two or more hoists are used simultaneously on the
same load. Danger to persons and risk of material damage can arise due to dynamic stresses and
uneven load distribution causing overload on individual hoists. A competent person with experience in
multiple lifting must therefore supervise this type of lifting tasks. See also EN-12480-1 Cranes –Safe
use.
Maintenance:
The robust and simple design of these clamps will provide a long service life with minimal
maintenance.
Avoid damage to the screw –keep dirt and grit away from the threading.
Periodically open the clamp jaws all the way and clean any contaminants from the screw threads.
Apply a slight coating of grease to prevent rust and provide lubrication.
Regular inspections
Regular inspections of the heavy duty clamps should be carried out yearly. When necessary (e.g. high
frequency in use) inspections should be carried out more often. If a clamp has been damaged it must
be replaced with a new one. Also if anyone of the wheels (models A and B) does not run properly the
unit must be replaced.
No repair
Damaged clamps must be discarded. In case of overload so many parts must be replaced, as it would not
be economical to repair.
