1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 About this manual
This manual describes the Swecoin TTP 5000 Series kiosk printers, their function,
maintenance instructions, spare parts, etc.
1.2 Updating
This manual will be updated from time to time as printer functions and features are
added or amended. No automatic distribution of new editions is, however, planned.
Updated manuals can be ordered by e-mail, fax or phone.
You are also welcome to visit our home page (http://www.swecoin.se) where technical
bulletins, manuals etc. will be available.
If you require functions not found in the manual edition at your disposal, please consult
one of our offices for information.
1.3 Safety precautions
Handling the printer in a safe way requires that you keep your fingers away from the
cutting mechanism when the power is switched ON.
1.4 The TTP 5000 products
The printers are divided into models such as TTP 5000, TTP 5100, TTP 5200,
TTP 5250, etc.
Each model is further divided into types representing the paper widths 60, 80, and
112 mm. Each type can also be divided into versions depending on installed options.
The main differences between the printer models is the type of built-in control board. The
following list describes the main features of the control boards used so far:
NOTE! — Regarding the TTP 5000 model, this manual only covers printer versions
equipped with control board SWC 492-000.

TTP 5000 Series Kiosk Printer Sub-system — Service Manual Edition B, May 974
TTP 5000
Control board SWC 492-000
Power requirement +24V, +5V
Power connector 6-pole
Firmware storage EPROM
RAM size 128 Kbyte
Parameter setting DIP switches
Data comm. interface(s) Serial RS 232 and parallel Centronics-type. The latter
requires a separate piggy-back mounted PCB
assembly.
Data comm. connectors Ribbon cable-type connectors. Standard DIN and
Amphenol connectors available through the use of
adapter cables.
TTP 5100
Control board SWC 728-001
Power requirement +24V and +5V
Power connector 6-pole
Firmware storage EPROM
RAM size 128 Kbyte
Parameter setting The board has no DIP switches. Parameter changing
requires an alternative EPROM capsule.
Data comm. interface(s) Serial RS 232 and parallel Centronics-type
Data comm. connectors Ribbon cable-type connectors. Standard DIN and
Amphenol connectors available through the use of
adapter cables.
Backward compatibility Fully backward compatible if the applicable EPROM
is installed.
TTP 5200
Control board SWC 728-002
Power requirement +24V and +5V
Power connector 6-pole
Firmware storage Flash PROM.
RAM size 256 Kbyte
Parameter setting New or modified parameters can be set through
software commands. Complete set of parameters can
be downloaded on-line.
Data comm. interface(s) Serial RS 232 and parallel Centronics-type
Data comm. connectors Ribbon cable-type connectors. Standard DIN and
Amphenol connectors available through the use of
adapter cables.
Backward compatibility Fully backward compatible if the applicable firmware
is downloaded.

Edition B, May 97 TTP 5000 Series Kiosk Printer Sub-system — Service Manual 5
TTP 5250
Control board SWC 728-003
Power requirement +24V
Power connector 6-pole (+5V supply pins disabled)
Firmware storage Flash PROM
RAM size 256 Kbyte
Parameter setting New or modified parameters can be set through
software commands. Complete set of parameters can
be downloaded on-line.
Data comm. interface(s) Serial RS 232 and parallel Centronics-type
Data comm. connectors Ribbon cable-type connectors. Standard DIN and
Amphenol connectors available through the use of
adapter cables.
Backward compatibility Fully backward compatible if the applicable firmware
is downloaded.
The use of flash PROM instead of EPROM permits downloading of firmware, default
parameters, up to 8 character font sets, and logotypes.
The 256 Kbyte RAM size, used as a page buffer, allows full landscape printing.
A unique, Swecoin patented, feature of the TTP 5000 Series printers is that they can
retain the document inside until both the printing and the cut-off operations are
completed.
A number of sensors monitor the printer operation.
Refer to the applicable Technical Specification and Installation Manual for further
information on technical data, printer functions, etc.

2 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The printer chassis is made up of a lower module containing the printer control board and
an upper module containing the mechanical functions.
Figure 3. Printer design
The printer has three motors controlled by the application software. All sensors are
reflector-type opto-sensors except the printhead-up sensor that is a micro switch.

TTP 5000 Series Kiosk Printer Sub-system — Service Manual Edition B, May 978
2.1 Paper handling
The print module has a stepper-motor that drives a platen. The thermal printhead
presses against the platen with the temperature sensitive paper in-between. The platen
pulls the paper from the supply roll and feeds the paper through the cutter module and
up to a couple of feed rolls in the presenter module. The rolls are driven by the presenter
motor (DC-motor).
During the printing procedure, the application program runs the presenter motor slowly
until the presenter sensor detects the leading paper edge. The top of the document is
then arrested by the presenter feed rolls. Deflection ribs in the presenter module assist in
forming a document loop within the printer if the application program postpones the
ejection until printing and cutting is completed. The presenter motor will then eject the
document. If so selected by the application program, the presenter feed rolls can be set
at continuous feed-through during printing, for example, when very long documents are
being printed.
The presenter sensor also detects when the trailing document edge leaves the exit slot.
The combined paper-end and TOF sensor is actuated by light reflection against the back
of the paper. If the light reflection disappears, but returns within a specified number of
paper-feed motor steps, this means that a pre-printed black mark is detected. If the light
does not return before this number of motor steps has been effected, this will be
interpreted as paper end.
