1 Air-to-Water HP Split System

1.1 System Schemac

It is an integrated air-to-water heat pump system which is one-stop soluon for space heang, space cooling and domesc hot

water. The outdoor heat pump system extracts heat from the outdoor air and transfers this heat through refrigerant piping to the

plate heat exchanger in the hydro module with water tank. The heated water in the hydro module circulates to low temperature

heat emiers (under-oor heang loops or low temperature radiators) to provide space heang. The 4-way valve in the outdoor

unit can reverse the refrigerant cycle so that the hydro module can provide chilled water for cooling using fan coil units. Because

the water tank is integrated design in the hydro module, so it can provide hot water directly to the users.

The heang capacity of heat pumps decreases with ambient temperature dropping. Backup electric heater is standard equipped

to provide addional heang capacity for use during extremely cold weather when the heat pump capacity is insucient.

1.2 System Conguraons

It can be congured to run with the electric heater either enabled or disabled and can also be used in conjuncon with an

auxiliary heat source such as a boiler.

The chosen conguraon aects the size of heat pump that is required. Three typical conguraons are described below.

Conguraon 1: Heat pump only

▪ The heat pump covers the required capacity and no extra heang capacity is necessary.

▪ Requires selecon of larger capacity heat pump and implies higher inial investment.

▪ Ideal for new construcon in projects where energy eciency is paramount.

Conguraon 2: Heat pump and backup electric heater (Hydro module with water tank is standard with 3kW backup electric

heater)

▪Heat pump covers the required capacity unl the ambient temperature drops below the point at which the heat pump

is able to provide sucient capacity. When the ambient temperature is below this equilibrium point, the backup electric

heater supplies the required addional heang capacity.

▪Best balance between inial investment and running costs, results in lowest lifecycle cost.

▪Ideal for new construcon.

Conguraon 3: Heat pump conjuncon with auxiliary heat source

▪ Heat pump covers the required capacity unl the ambient temperature drops below the point at which the heat pump is

able to provide sucient capacity. When the ambient temperature is below this equilibrium point, depending on the system

sengs, either the auxiliary heat source supplies the required addional heang capacity or the heat pump does not run and

the auxiliary heat source covers the required capacity.

▪ Ideal for refurbishments and upgrades.

Notes:

1. If the required water temperatures of the heat emiers are not all the same, the Heat Pump Split’s outlet water temperature seng should be set at the

highest of the heat emier required water temperatures. If the water outlet design temperature falls between two temperatures listed in the outdoor

unit’s capacity table, calculate the corrected capacity by interpolaon.

2. If the outdoor unit selecon is to be based on total heang load and total cooling load, select Split units which sasfy both total heang and cooling load

requirements.
