Setup and installation

Connect and turn on

CAUTION: Do not disconnect a device under test when the instrument is powered on. If a disconnection occurs when power is

on, the instrument must be powered off, and then powered back on after DUT connectivity is restored.

Follow these steps after you unpack the instrument to turn it on, connect, and get started. This requires an Ethernet connection.

1. Plug in an Ethernet cable to the LAN connector on the rear panel of the instrument and then directly to the host PC or to an Ethernet

network.

2. Plug in the supplied power cord to the power connector on the rear of the instrument and to an appropriate power source.

3. Push the Power button on the front panel to turn on the instrument. The Power button LED color indicates the power mode of the

instrument. Amber is Standby. Blue is On. No light means the instrument is unplugged and Off.

4. When you are turning on the instrument for the first time, the following screen should appear. Write down the IP address shown on the

screen of your instrument.

Rear panel connectors

5. Open a browser window on a PC and enter the IP address from your instrument.

6. Enter the serial number of your instrument into the Factory Password field. Then enter a new password in the New Password field.

Reneter the password. Be sure to remember the new password or record and place it in a secure location. It will be needed each time

the instrument is remotely accessed.

7. A Welcome screen with the instrument menus will appear after you click the Change Password button. See the User manual available

on www.tek.com/manuals for additional operating and fixture information.

Remote control through the API

You can program and control your instrument using API commands. Do the following to access the web UI for the API:

1. Enter the IP address of the instrument into a PC browser window.

2. Then add :5000/api/docs to the IP address. Example: 123.00.1.1:5000/api/docs

3. The web UI for the API will appear.

See the TMT4 Margin Tester User Manual at www.tek.com for more detailed information about using the API.

Pollution degree description

A measure of the contaminants that could occur in the environment around and within a product. Typically the internal environment inside a

product is considered to be the same as the external. Products should be used only in the environment for which they are rated.

• Pollution Degree 1. No pollution or only dry, nonconductive pollution occurs. Products in this category are generally encapsulated,

hermetically sealed, or located in clean rooms.

• Pollution Degree 2. Normally only dry, nonconductive pollution occurs. Occasionally a temporary conductivity that is caused by

condensation must be expected. This location is a typical office/home environment. Temporary condensation occurs only when the

product is out of service.

• Pollution Degree 3. Conductive pollution, or dry, nonconductive pollution that becomes conductive due to condensation. These are

sheltered locations where neither temperature nor humidity is controlled. The area is protected from direct sunshine, rain, or direct

wind.

• Pollution Degree 4. Pollution that generates persistent conductivity through conductive dust, rain, or snow. Typical outdoor locations.

Pollution degree rating

Pollution Degree 2 (as defined in IEC 61010-1). Rated for indoor, dry location use only.

IP rating

IP20 (as defined in IEC 60529).
