Plugging in your VideoLabs camera is easy. If your cable is disconnected from
the camera, plug the non-labeled end of the cable into the base of the camera.
•Plug the connector labeled “Video” into a standard NTSC or PAL “S-
Video-in” jack on a video digitizer board, VCR or TV.
•An S-video adapter (Fig. 1) is included for converting the signal from S-
Video to Composite. Assemble the adapter by gently pushing it onto the
S-video connector. Then the RCA jack may be plugged into a standard
RCA acceptable video-in.
•Plug the connectors labeled “Audio” into the “Audio-in’’ jack.
•The final connector is for power. Your Videolabs camera comes with a wall-
mounted transformer (Fig.2). Plug the transformer into a power outlet,
then plug the remaining cable connector to the power supply jack.
Be sure to always use your Videolabs camera with the supplied wall-mount
power supply. Other power supplies, even if they “fit” may produce improper
voltages or reversed polarities that could seriously damage your camera.
To turn your camera on, use the ON/OFF switch located on the back of the cam-
era head or on the base.

You can position your camera in two ways.
First, you can adjust the angle of the camera head. The camera head is swivel-
mounted; you can turn it 30° to the left or right. (DO NOT turn it more than 30° or you
may damage the camera. When you feel a natural resistance, stop.)
Second, you can adjust the flexible gooseneck. Adjust the goose-
neck until the camera is positioned exactly where you want it. The
camera lens is designed with a slight telephoto effect, so a”head and
shoulders” shot tills the video frame at an arms-length distance. This is ideal for
videoconferencing and other applications.
A focus ring is included with your Videolabs camera (DocCam and
ScholasticCam only). Assemble the focus ring by gently pushing the smaller end onto the
focus lip in the center of the camera head. Please note that the focus ring will not be flush
with the camera head. Turn the focus ring to the left for close-up and to the right for
distance.
Teachcam, Studentcam, Medcam and IDCam are shipped with a standard C-
Mount Lens (8mm for Teachcam, Studentcam and Medcam and l6mm for
IDCam). If other C-Mount lenses are purchased, simply unscrew the lens
counter-clockwise and replace it with the new lens, screwing clockwise.
When first turning on the Teachcam w/ lllumaBase all the lights will come on
briefly during its self-check routine.
Turn on the light base by pressing the switch once for the side lights, twice for
the bottom light, three times for both sides and bottom and four times to turn off.
Hold the brightness control switches down until the image is focused and enhanced.

The cameras output standard video (NTSC or PAL) making them compatible
with almost all computer video capture and digitizer boards. Your camera can be
used with video digitizer boards for Apple Macintosh and Pcs.
Lighting the subject, in all photography and video production, is crucial to get-
ting the best video images possible. The camera performs well even in dim or
poorly lighted surroundings. In general, avoid strong background lighting-don't
place a subject before a window, for example. You may find that a single light
source in front of the subject is sufficient for good video images.
Audio is standard on all camera models. The microphone is located under the
lens on the camera head.
The microphones are highly sensitive. In general, you'll find that audio levels
are optimal when the camera is pointed directly at your face and about an arms
length away. As your image moves “out of the picture”, the sound level will
begin to drop off.

The Teachcam, Studentcam, Medcam and Microscopical models include a
custom-metal eyepiece adapter and 28 & 34mm plastic couplers. To use the
metal adapter properly, unscrew and remove the eyepiece from the microscope
and slide the narrow end of the adapter into its place. The lens of the camera
will then fit snugly into the wide opening of the adapter over the microscopes
eyepiece. With the plastic adapters, you must first determine which adapter will
fit the eyepiece of your microscope. You will not need to unscrew and remove
the eyepiece of the microscope for these adapters! Simply position the camera
head to snugly fit into the adapter over the eyepiece.

The 20' extension cable comes standard with the Teachcam, Studentcam and
Microscopical and is also available as an optional accessory for all other cam-
era models. The cable plugs directly into the standard five foot cable, allowing
for more mobility around a classroom or laboratory environment.

In order to properly use the light base with your camera, remove the adhesive feet
from the camera base. This will allow the screw holes on the bottom of the cam-
era to fit into the pegs of the light base. Plug FlexLite's power supply into the
outlet and press it's on/off button. You may position the light on each side of the
Flexl-ite to illuminate your subject.

FlexCam ID
Using FlexCam ID
FlexCam ID camera includes a 1 6mm C-mount (inter changeable) lens.
(See page 6 for C-mount lens instructions:)
In addition, you’ll notice 2 buttons on the base of your FlexCam ID unit.
These buttons are a part of its Iris Control System (lCS) and will adjust to
any lighting environment.
Simply press the light button (on the right) to brighten your
image and the dark button (on the left) to darken your
image.

Troubleshooting…
General Precautions…
If you don't see video make sure you have the right video source selected.
S-video has a small plug with four small pins in it. Composite has a slightly
larger plug with one big pin in it.
If you still don't see video, hook your video source up to a VCR and see if you
can get video that way. lf you DO get video that way, call VideoLabs Technical
Support at (612)542-006l or go to our Support section at www.videolabs.com. lf
you still cannot get video on a VCR then look at troubleshooting instructions for
your video source.
Treat your VideoLabs camera as you would any high-quality electronic device',
treat it with care and don't expose it to moisture or extreme temperatures.
Be sure to always use the camera with the supplied wall-mount power supply.
Other power supplies, even if they tit, may produce improper voltages and seri-
ously damage the camera.
Also, use common sense when adjusting the flexible gooseneck. Don't be afraid
to adjust the gooseneck as you wish, but don't deliberately torture the neck-it's
built to be widely adjustable, but not to be tied in knots!
VideoLabs' Warranty
WHAT IS COVERED
A1l defects and faulty workmanship in the camera for one year, five years for the gooseneck.
WHO IS COVERED
As the original purchaser of the camera, you are covered under this warranty.
LENGTH OF WARRANTY
One Year. The warranty will be extended to a five year limited if the original purchaser returns
the warranty card within 30 days of purchase with a copy of the invoice.
WHAT VIDEOLABS WILL DO
lf the camera is in warranty, we will repair or replace the product without charge, at our option,
and return it to an authorized Videotapes reseller, freight prepaid. VideoLabs will not pay
inbound shipping, transportation or insurance charges, or accept any responsibility for loss/dam-
age in transit. If out of warranty, normal repair charges apply, and will be estimated prior to
repair.

having. We'll do our best to help you.
IF YOU NEED TO RETURN YOUR CAMERA
Call VideoLabs Return Goods at (612)542-0061 , ext 236 to obtain an RMA (Return Material
Authorization) number. Return the product with cable, manual and power supply with the insur-
ance and transportation charges prepaid, to an authorized VideoLabs reseller in the country of
your original purchase or you may ship it directly to VideoLabs. Please include a copy of a bill
of sale bearing a VideoLabs serial number as proof of the original purchase, along with your
name, address, telephone number and a description of the problem you encountered. lf you need
to know the location of a VideoLabs reseller in your area, please call Videotapes or visit our web-
site at www.videolabs.com.
OTHER CONDITIONS
This warranty does not apply if the VideoLabs serial number has been removed or if the product
has been disassembled or damaged by misuse, accident, modification or unauthorized repair.
VideoLabs may use remanufactured, refurbished or used parts and modules in making warranty
repairs.
