Introduction
Introduction to the RapidDome
ADEMCO Video’s RapidDome™ isa cost-effective, superior quality
internal dome that features a high-resolution, low-light sensitive color
camera in a high-speed pan/tilt/zoom dome assembly. Ideal for the
vast majority of indoor installations, RapidDome provides sharp,
detailed images down to 1.0 lux through advanced digital signal
processing, continuous autofocus and a 24X total zoom capability
(12X optical, 2X digital). RapidDome is the perfect complement to
ADEMCO Video’s Orbiter indoor and environmental domes that
feature extended zoom capacity, even lower light sensitivity and a
high-speed color/mono changeover camera option.
RapidDome features an intelligent zoom that automatically adjusts
pan and tilt speeds in proportion to zoom position. The dome provides
360° continuous pan rotation and manual variable speed control at
0.1-100°/second. Because of its attractive compact design and with its
low profile (at only 5"), the RapidDome makes the perfect choice for
applications where aesthetics are critical.
RapidDome is available in two standard dome assemblies; a false
ceiling mount and a plug and play pendant. The false ceiling version
provides quick and easy installation into any drop or false ceiling, no
additional mounts or accessories are required. The standard pendant
version provides the ultimate in flexibility. Its plug andplay receptacle
gives you the freedom to choose the right RapidDome mounting
accessory for your installation.
• Compact low profile design at only 5”
• High resolution low light camera
• (460TVL, 1.0 lux)
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
• Automatic digital backlight compensation
• 24X zoom (12X optical, 2X digital)
• Continuous auto focus and auto iris with manual
overrides

Introduction
• Intelligent zoom automatically adjusts pan and tilt
speeds in proportion to zoom position.
• 360° continuous rotation
• Automatic 180° flip circuitry
• 64 presets and 3 tours
• 8 alarm inputs and 2 alarm output relays resident in the
dome.
• Built-in intelligent receiver for up-the-coax (UTC) or
RS485 twisted pair (TP) operation
• Built-in code translator provides compatibility with
PELCO P or D based systems
• Automatic vertical sync-phase adjustment
• Easy installation and servicing:
RapidDome’s pendant version features an innovative“plug and play”
design that makes installation and servicing quick and convenient.
• High resolution, low light camera:
RapidDome’s high resolution DSP color camera and low light
sensitivity (1.0 lux) makes it ideal for the vast majority of indoor
installations.
• Continuous auto focus with manual override:
No matter what the zoom position, RapidDome’s images remain in
sharp focus. When the scene requires extra fine control, RapidDome
allows the operator to overrride the auto focus settings.
• Intelligent zoom:
RapidDome automatically adjusts pan and tilt speeds in proportion to
zoom position for greater control. The lens pauses at 12X
magnification, then enters digital zoom mode up to 24X.
• Continuous rotation, high-speed pan, tilt, and zoom systems:
RapidDome features 360° continuous rotation on gold slip rings.
RapidDome also features high-speed precision control with electronic
braking for up to 300°/second operation down to 0.1°/second.

Introduction
• 180° flip ON/OFF
When this feature is ON, RapidDome automatically turns 180° when
reaching its lower tilt limit. This allows the operator to continuously
track objects moving directly below the camera.
• Preset positioning, alarm activation, and tour capabilities:
RapidDome presets can easily be set up and recalled by the operator
whenusingADEMCOVideoRapidViewsystems.Threetoursmaybe
programmed. Each of RapidDome’s alarm inputs automatically call a
preset when an alarm is activated. Two alarm outputs can be used to
control external devices.
• Up-the-coax or RS485 twisted pair operation
(system dependent):
Up-the-coaxoperationofupto 1,000feet(300meters)ispossiblewith
appropriate cable. RS485 twisted pair operation allows up to 32
RapidDomes to be daisy chained at a maximum of 5,000 feet (1500
meters).
• Automatic sync-phase adjustment:
Using compatible RapidView Matrix systems, the video signal can be
synchronized with other system inputs with the touch of a button.

1. Setting up the RapidDome
1.1 Wiring Details
1.1.1 Mounting
The RapidDome is designed for speed of installation and set up and so
the wall and ceiling mount brackets are supplied pre-wired. Customer
wiring is via an internal terminal block PCB which is located inside
the base plastic cover. (See Figure 1 for the location of the terminal
block and for the wiring details.)
The false ceiling versions of the RapidDome are supplied with a 3m
cable. (See Figure 2 for the wiring details.)
Note: The terminal block is accessed by removing the two M3 CSK
head screws, using an appropriate tool. The location of the screws is
shown in Figure 1, below, by an ‘*’.
