Installation

Installing the SpaceLink PC Card Driver

1. Turn ON your computer and enter Windows.

2. Insert the ASUS SpaceLink PC Card into a PCMCIA Type II slot with

the connector side first. The “LNK”and “AIR”LEDs represent the top

side and the “MAC”address sticker represents the bottom side. Push

the PC Card into the slot until it is firmly seated.

CAUTION: Make sure that you carefully align the ASUS SpaceLink

PC Card into the PC Card socket. Forcing a misaligned PC Card

will damage the PC Card or the computer.

3. Windows will automatically detect theASUS SpaceLink PC Card once

it is inserted into the PCMCIAslot, then the “Add New Hardware Wiz-

ard”dialog will appear. Click Next.

4. Select “Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)”.

Click Next.

5. Specify the location of the drivers for your operation system. Click Next.

Windows 98: [CD]:\Driver\Win98

Windows Me: [CD]:\Driver\WinMe

Windows 2000: [CD]:\Driver\Win2K

Windows XP: [CD]:\Driver\WinXP

Where [CD] represents the driver letter of your CD-ROM drive.

6. Wait while Windows searches for the device driver for the PC Card. It

will display the search result: “ASUS SpaceLink WL-100 WLAN PC

Card”. Click Next.

7. During the installation, Windows may prompt you to insert the “Win-

dows Operating System CD”which contains some driver files. Insert

your Windows setup disc and type the path if necessary and click Yes.

Windows will start copying the necessary files.

8. When the installation procedure is completed, click Finish.

9. When prompted, reboot your computer.

Verifying the SpaceLink PC Card Installation

Windows 98/Me

Right-click My Computer on the desktop and select Properties. Click

DeviceManagerand look under Network adapters. If you find the “ASUS

SpaceLink WL-100 WLAN PC Card”string, it means the PC Card is in-

stalled correctly.

Windows 2K/XP

Open the Control Panel through the Start menu. Double-click System

icon. Click Device Manager on the “Hardware”page. Click Network

adapters. If you find the “ASUS SpaceLink WL-100 WLAN PC Card”

string, it means the PC Card is installed correctly.

Verifying the TCP/IP Protocol

Windows 98/Me

Right-click My Network Places on the desktop and select Properties.

Scroll down and look for “TCP/IP -> ASUS SpaceLink WL-100 WLAN

PC Card”. Make sure that the TCP/IPprotocol parameters (IPaddress, gate-

way, and subnet mask) are set correctly.

Windows 2K/XP

Open the Control Panel through the Start menu. Double-click Network

Connectionicon. Right click “ASUS SpaceLink WL-100WLAN PC Card”

and select Properties. Look for “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”. Make sure

that the TCP/IPprotocol parameters (IPaddress, gateway, and subnet mask)

are set correctly.

Installation

Installing the SpaceLink PC Card Utilities

After you have installed the PC Card driver, you can install the WLAN

Card utilities. Refer to the User’s Manual for the detailed information.

1. Insert theASUS SpaceLink PC Card support CD and an autorun menu

will appear. If your autorun is disabled, double click SETUP.EXE in

the root directory of the support CD.

2. From the autorun menu, click Install ASUS WLAN Card Utilities.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Reading the SpaceLink PC Card LEDs

The part of theASUS SpaceLink PC Card that protrudes out of the PCMCIA

socket consists of two LEDs that indicate the status of theASUS SpaceLink

PC Card.

Link LED

Air LED

The Air LED indicates that there are packets being transmitted.

Link LED

The Link LED is used to indicate the status of the ASUS SpaceLink PC

Card. These are the following link statuses:

Solid Green: The ASUS SpaceLink PC Card is associated with an Access Point.

Blinking: The SpaceLink PC Card is attempting to associate with anAccess Point.

Off: There are errors during the Power-ON Self-Test.

Orientating the Antenna

The ASUS SpaceLink PC Card has two integrated antennas, one external

omnidirectional antenna and the other is a built-in diversity antenna. It is

recommended that you adjust the external antenna straight up for maxi-

mum range and higher link quality. Lower the external antenna when trans-

porting your Notebook PC.
