Need-to-Know

Security: it is important that a user fully understands general risks of using

a two-way radio.

uThe government decree forbids use of a radio transmitter without authorization

within the territorial jurisdiction.

uApply for frequency point to local radio management committee before using a

mobile transceiver. Illegal operation may be subject to fine or arrestment.

uRepair is only done by a specialist.

Announcement

Procurement and use of this device is a behavior setting and using radio station that should be

approved legally for establishing a station and authorized with a radio station license. During use,

operate this device in accordance with items permitted in the radio station license. Setting and

using radio stations without authorization and interfering with radio services, not to work as

licensed and other behaviors in violation of regulations in the radio administration act will be

administratively punished by the radio administration authority. Anyone who seriourly violate

radio usage would even offend against article 288 of "Criminal Law" or article 28 of "Public

Security Punishment" that would be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three

years, criminal detention or public surveillance and also be subject to fine, or subject to fine alone

or be punished with "administrative detention" by a public security bureau..

Precautions

Please follow following precautions to prevent fire, personal injury or damage

to the machine:

●The recommended usage rate for the mobile transceiver is 1 minute for TX and 4

minutes for RX. Long and continuous TX will result in heating of the rear panel. Do not allow

the rear panel of the two-way radio to contact surface of a plastic object.

●Do not expose the mobile transceiver to direct sunlight for a long time or place it near a

heating source.

●Do not place the mobile transceiver in an extremely dusty, moist or splash place, or on

an unstable surface.

●If unusual odor or smoke is found, immediately power the mobile transceiver off. Then

contact your local BEIGENG vendor.

●In no circumstances can the product be modified without authorization. The company

is not liable for any adverse consequence resulting from unauthorized modification.

Note: Do not operate the mobile transceiver while driving that may result in

serious consequences.

If you want to use this product for secondary development, please contact BEIFENG

or local BEIFENG vendor.

Warnings:

uPlease turn the two-way radio off in a combustible or explosive environment, including

a place rich in combustible gas or dusty area such as filling station and gas station;

uIf your mobile transceiver is installed in the trunk or other places, please do not place

the fuel tank in the trunk.

uThe transmission of radio signal may bring about harm. Do not allow your body touch

or get close to the antenna when the mobile transceiver transmits radio signal, to

avoid effect on transmission of radio signal or any personal injury from radio wave.

Unpack and Inspection

Note: Following unpacking notes are only for local BEIFENG vendors,

authorized BEIFENG agents or factories. Please take the two-way radio out of the

package carefully. It is recommended to check accessories according to the

following checklist before discarding its package. If any item is missed or

damaged, please immediately contact your local BEIFENG vendor.

Attachment Installation of Mobile Transceiver

Accessories

Installation of Mobile Transceiver

Select a safe and convenient place inside your car to minimize impact on

passengers and yourself when your car is moving. Try to select a well-ventilated

place where avoid direct sunshine.

Use supplied self-tapping screws to fix the mixing support to your car. To

prevent injury of passengers, please use the safety support and screws provided

by the company to firmly attach the two-way radio.

Installation of Antenna

Properly install and adjust the antenna before performing operations on the

mobile transceiver/base station. The success of the attachment depends on the

right antenna type and if it is properly installed. If a proper antenna is used and

installed, the two-way radio will achieve the optimum performance.

The antenna for a base station shall be set in a high ground without obstacles

around; the antenna for a mobile transceiver is suitable for installing in the center

of the car roof; the use of an antenna with higher gain will obtain better coverage

Cautions

uPlease use a low loss coaxial feeder with impedance of 50Ω to connect the

antenna to the two-way radio to match the system impedance and obtain best

communication effect. A feeder without impedance of 50Ω will affect the

standing wave of the antenna feed system, reduce the TX and RX effect of

the two-way radio, and even damage the two-way radio.

uBefore transmission, be sure to connect the two-way radio to the antenna or

other matching loads. If transmitting before connecting to the antenna or other

matching loads, the two-way radio may be damaged.

uAll base stations installed with outdoor antenna shall be set with arresters to

reduce damage on the two-way radio or even fire risk due to lightning.

Warnings

During transmission, if electronic elements are not properly protected or isolated from radio

frequency power, these devices may be damaged. If your car is set with these devices, please consult

your vehicle vendor to ask and check if these devices are properly protected during transmission.

Connection of Power Cord

Be sure to use fully charged 12 V vehicle power. If the two-way radio has low

battery, the TX output power will be significantly reduced and you will be given an

alarm during transmission. Do not connect your two-way radio directly to 24 V

power. If 24V power is required for your two-way radio, please use an additional

dedicated DC-DC power.

After the power cord is installed in placed, wrap heat resistant adhesive tape to

the fuse holder to resist moist. Wrap the whole power cord.

To prevent short circuit, disconnect other connections of the negative terminal

before connecting the two-way radio.

[Notes]

13.8 V DC power supply is used for BF-998. Do not use 24V power for this

unit. Before installing this unit to your car, check the power polarity and voltage.

Note following points when connecting and disconnecting the power supply:

uUse a dedicated BF-PC981 mobile transceiver DC power cord to connect the

device to the power supply, and connect the red power cord to the positive

pole while the black power cord to the negative pole. Be sure not to connect

the positive and negative terminal to prevent short circuit that may damage

the power supply.

uThe power supply shall be placed in a stable place inside your car to prevent

poor connection due to vibration while driving that may affect use of the

mobile transceiver.

uCheck that the power supply is firmly and properly connected before powering

the device on.

uDo not cut or remove the fuse holder on the DC power cord; otherwise, wrong

connecting or surging current may result in smoke or fire.

Installation of Base Station

If the two-way radio is to be used as a base station, you need an optional

independent dedicated 13.8V DC power supply. It is recommended to use this

power supply with 15A or more current capacity.

The power supply and two-way radio can be directly placed on the work table, or

use a proper support to attach the two-way radio and power supply to the wall.

Note: to make full use of BEIFENG two-way radio, it is recommended to use our

dedicated power supply.

Before completing all connections, do not connect this DC power supply to AC

socket;

Be sure that both the two-way radio and DC power supply are disconnected.

Connect the DC power cord to the output end of the DC power supply and check

that the polarity is right (red: positive, black: negative).

Connect the DC power cord to the power connector of the two-way radio till it is

locked in place.

Replacement of Fuse

If the fuse is burned, please find out the cause and eliminate it, and replace

with a new fuse after the fault is eliminated. If a newly-installed fuse is burned,

please disconnect the power cord, and contact your local authorized BEIFENG

Service Center or your local vendor for help.

About the Product

Front Panel

①Key F1: short press to enable talk around function, and long press to enable selection of

key tones.

②Key F2: monitoring function.

③Key F3: short press to enable priority channel scanning, long press to enable full channel

scanning and double click to enable dual channel scanning.

④Key M: access to SQ level setting.

⑤LED indicator: Tx lights red, and Rx lights green. If signal encoding is available, green

indicator lights after decoding.

⑥Hand microphone or programming cable connecting socket

⑦Up key: channel or function selection from up to bottom.

⑧Power switch - Volume controller: clockwise to power the machine on or increase volume

and anti-clockwise to power the machine off or reduce volume.

⑨Down key: channel or function selection from bottom to up.

⑫Antenna port: connect the external antenna to this terminal. When testing the transmission,

please connect a dummy load to replace the antenna. The antenna system or the dummy

load has 50Ω of impedance.
