1. APPLICATION
Reverse osmosis process is one of the most advanced technologies of water puricaon. Reverse
osmosis lter uses a special semipermeable membrane similar in its structure and properes to the
membrane of a living cell. It can be conceived of as having ny pores that are 200 mes smaller
than viruses and 4000 mes smaller than most bacteria. The principle of reverse osmosis water pu-
ricaon is modelled aer living cell’s natural water cycle. It allows purifying drinking water from all
harmful impuries, including nitrates and viruses (see Figure 1 below). Only molecules of a certain
size can penetrate through cellular membrane.
Ecoso RObust is a high recovery direct ow operaon capable reverse osmosis system. The system
can be equipped with a pressure tank for increasing puried water ow rate, and its mulstage
design allows obtaining a high recovery up to 50%.
The system is tapped in water mains using feed adapter and feed valve. Tube is run from feed valve
to the inlet port in system’s port rack (labeled). The port rack also includes connecon ports for the
drain, pressure tank 6 (if used), and puried water faucet 1 or puried water pipe. Feed water rst
undergoes pre-ltraon in the sediment and carbon pre-lters where it is stripped of suspended
parcles (rust, sand, hemp strands etc.), organic color and chlorine compounds. Pressure gauge no.
1 on front panel displays water pressure aer the pre-lter.

Technological scheme of RObust 1000 is shown in Figure 2. Aer the pre-lters, the pressure
booster pump feeds the water to the reverse osmosis membrane array with two membrane
modules. Permeate from both modules goes to the permeate collector, and concentrate from the
1st and 2nd modules goes to the 3rd one. Second stage permeate goes to the permeate collector, and
the concentrate is discarded to drain via concentrate ow restrictor and drain port in port rack.
Pressure gauge no. 2 shows pressure between the 2nd and 3rd membranes. Permeate goes to the
puried water line or pressure tank (if installed), passing through the carbon post-lter. Puried
water line may go to puried water faucet or be connected with some other consumer appliance.
High-pressure switch installed before the post-lter reads pressure in permeate line and starts the
reverse osmosis system when it drops (due to taking of some water from the pressure tank or
opening puried water faucet). When the system switches on, entry solenoid valve is opened and
booster pump is powered up, which allows to feed water into the system. When puried water
stops being drawn from the system, pressure starts to build up and closes high-pressure switch
switching o the system.

RObust 3000 system has low feed water pressure protecon implemented with a low-pressure
switch, which prevents the pump and solenoid from operang if feed pressure is less than
0.4 bar (5.8 psi). Two pressure gauges on the front panel show operang pressure in the system,
which allows diagnosing potenal and occurring problems.

it. If water pressure exceeds the upper limit, install a pressure regulator before the RObust .
3Using the RObust with feed water temperature between 20 °С (68 °F) and 30 °С (86 °F) produces a lower rejec-
on rate and higher ow rate, which yields higher TDS of puried water. Using the system with feed water above
30 °С (86 °F) is advised against.

1If feed water quality does not meet specied requirements, membrane and lter service life may decrease. If
aiming to purify raw water (well water/ground water etc.), it is recommended to carry out detailed water anal-
ysis. If any constuents exceed the above limitaons, it is advisable to install a special lter upstream of your
reverse osmosis system. Consult professional water treatment specialist for proper selecon of an appropriate
lter for your water.
