Maintenance
The stretcher requires regular maintenance. Set up and follow
a maintenance schedule. When using maintenance products,
follow the manufacturers’ directions and read the
manufacturers’ material safety data sheets. Ferno recommends
that you inspect the stretcher for damage as you clean and
disinfect it.
To disinfect: Wipe all surfaces with disinfectant. Apply the
disinfectant for the contact time recommended by the
disinfectant manufacturer.
To clean: Wash the stretcher with warm water and a mild
detergent. Rinse with clean water. Dry with a towel. Allow the
stretcher to dry fully before rolling or storing it.
Toinspect: Examine the stretcher for anything that might affect
the integrity of the stretcher, including:
• Broken slats
• Torn, cut or punctured vinyl or damaged vinyl heat welds
• Broken restraint buckles
• Worn, cut or frayed restraint webbing or Velcro®
fastening strips
• Damaged, loose or missing carrying handles.
If damage is discovered, remove the stretcher from service
and replace.
Important
Disinfectants and cleaners containing bleach,
phenolics, or iodines can damage the stretcher.
Disinfect and clean the stretcher only with
products that do not contain these chemicals.
To shorten the restraint, hold tang parallel to the ground and
pull on loose end of restraint.
When the patient has been properly restrained, the operators
follow local lifting and carrying protocols to transport the
patient. Six webbed carrying handles are sewn into each
stretcher.
Lift only the weight you can safely handle. Use additional help
as needed to lift a heavy patient or body.
4
Helpers can cause injury or be injured.
Trained operators must maintain control of
the stretcher and direct all helpers.
