Use & Care

WARNING: This appliance must be earthed.

Fuses

Your appliance comes fitted with a plug

and a 13A fuse. If you need to

replace the fuse, only those rated

at 13A and ASTA approved to

BS1362 should be used. If you

lose the fuse cover, a

replacement may be obtained

from your local Hotpoint authorised

Service Centre or Electricity company.

Correct replacement is identified by colour coding or the

marking on base of plug.

WARNING: Do not use plug unless fuse cover is fitted.

Changing the Plug

Cut off and dispose of the supplied plug if it does not fit your

socket.

WARNING: To avoid a shock hazard do not insert the discarded

plug into a socket anywhere else.

IMPORTANT: WIRES IN THE MAINS LEAD ARE

COLOURED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING

CODE:

Green/Yellow - Earth

Blue - Neutral

Brown - Live

If you change the

plug, the colour of

wires in the mains

lead may not

correspond with the

colour of the markings

identifying terminals

in the plug. You

should therefore wire

it as shown (Fig 2).

Changing the Mains Lead

If you have damaged the existing lead or require a longer one a

charge will be made. It is strongly advised that this work is

carried out by a qualified electrician.

As part of Hotpoint’s continued commitment to helping the environment,

Hotpoint reserves the right to use quality recycled components to keep down

customer costs and minimise material wastage.

Please dispose of packaging and old appliances carefully.

To minimise risk of injury to children, remove the door, plug

and cut mains cable off flush with the appliance. Dispose of

separately to ensure that the appliance can no longer be

plugged into a mains socket.

Retention of this Instruction Book

Keep this book in a handy place for reference.

It contains important details on the safe and proper

use of your appliance. If you sell the appliance, pass it

on to someone else, move house and leave it behind,

make sure that you provide this book so that the new

owner can become familiar with the appliance

instructions and safety warnings.

ABOVE: Allow a minimum of 100mm between the top of the fridge freezer

and the underside of the wall cupboard.

Allow a minimum of 25mm either side and 35mm from the base

of the appliance to the floor.

Installation

Location & Air Circulation

Locate appliance away from sources of heat eg. Cookers,

Radiators, Direct Sunlight as extreme temperature may

affect it’s performance.

Ensure the recommended minimum measurements are

met to:-

✱Increase the life of the compressor.

✱Reduce risk of condensation on the outside of the

appliance.

✱Reduce the running costs.

✱Reduce noise caused by vibration.

Fitting an Appliance

under a Work Top

To minimise running costs Hotpoint recommend

fitting a vent to the rear of your work top.

WARNING: If there is less than 30mm

clearance, a Vent must be fitted to provide

adequate ventilation above your appliance.

If appliance is fitted

with an Air Grille

Simply push appliance back until

the air grille is nearly touching the

wall (Fig 3).

Appliance without

an Air Grille

1. Fit the two supplied wall

spacers to the top of the

condenser at the back of

the appliance (Fig 4).

2. Push appliance back, until

spacers are against the wall.

Adjusting

the Feet

(Front Feet only)

The right foot screw

is pre-set to the

correct position.

Stabilise by adjusting the

left foot screw until all four

feet are in firm contact with the floor (Fig 5).

We recommend before using your appliance that

you clean the interior and exterior (see page 10).

This is designed to serve as an extra work surface, be

careful with it. Do not drop or place heavy objects on it,

sit or stand on it.

WARNING: Hotpoint recommend that you do not

stack any appliance with your Fridge, Freezer or

combination Fridge Freezer.

Decor Panels

NOTE: For Models with flat

door fronts only.

Co-ordinate your kitchen by

fitting a matching decor panel

which attaches to the edges of the appliance door

enabling a maximum 4mm thick decor panel to be fitted.

Positioning a Fridge next

to a Freezer

Free standing:

Leave a 50mm gap between the two appliances to avoid

a build up of condensation. Ensure both appliances are

standing firm and level.

Note: To change the door opening side (see Door Reversal

on pages 11-13).

Whether the compressor is running or not, it is

normal to hear sounds created by the liquid and

gases sealed within the refrigeration system.

Switch on

WARNING: Ensure the mains cable is not trapped

underneath or behind the appliance.

Let appliance stand upright in final position for at least

15 minutes. Insert plug into socket outlet and switch on

electricity supply.

Running-in the Compressor

Your appliance is operated by a compressor, which

maintains the appliances internal temperature. For the

first few months the compressor has to work a little

harder and may result in more noise than usual.

Storage Space

Note: Only applicable to appliances with a fridge

compartment.

Adjustable Shelves

✱Make the most of

interior storage space

by positioning shelves at

various heights to suit individual items.

✱If your appliance is fitted with glass shelves,

open the door fully, withdraw the shelf and

replace it in the required position.

✱If your appliance is fitted with wire shelves

you may tilt them to allow for the safe

storage of bottles and jars on their sides

(Fig 6). To tilt a shelf, place the back of the

shelf on a lower level hanger than the front

(Fig 6a).

Salad Bin

✱Pull out drawer to clean

(Fig 7).

✱Use to store vegetables

fruit, vegetables and

salad items.

✱Remove unusable

leaves and soil from

vegetables.

✱Leave lettuce, cabbage, parsley and

cauliflower on the stem.

Commodity &

Bottle Racks

✱Commodity racks can be

positioned as required to

maximise the storage

capacity of the inner

door (Fig 8).

✱The bottle rack is designed to hold 2 litre

bottles and is located at the bottom of the

door.

✱To remove, lift rack vertically to release from

fixing supports. To replace, align grooves on

either side of rack, above fixing supports and

push down until secure.

Lift & Carry

Egg Rack

✱Wipe, don’t wash eggs.

✱Bring eggs to room

temperature before

using.

✱Lift out to clean (Fig 9)

or use in conjunction

with any commodity rack on the right hand

side of the door.

Storing Food

Making the best use of

your Appliance

To ensure that your appliance operates as efficiently as

possible:

✱Follow packaging “best by/use by”instructions or your

suppliers advice on a suitable maximum storage time.

✱Keep foods covered to retain moisture and prevent

flavour/odour transference. Plastic bags, aluminium

foil, plastic stretch wrap and containers with lids are

ideal.

✱Select chilled and frozen food last when shopping,

transport in a ‘cool bag’ and place in appliance as soon

as possible after arriving home.

✱Avoid opening the doors unnecessarily or for longer

than needed.

✱Allow hot or warm food to cool down in covered

containers before placing in appliance, as placing hot

food in the appliance reduces efficiency.

WARNING: Do not use to store poisonous, flammable

or dangerous substances, your appliance has been

designed for the storage of edible foodstuffs only.

Storing Food in a Freezer

✱Freeze and store either fresh food or long term

commercially frozen foods.

✱Generally speaking long term storage means up to 3

months but this can vary, so always follow your

supplier’s recommendations otherwise refer to the

pictorial guide on the door liner (see below).

✱Place frozen food in the freezer compartment as soon

as possible after buying it.

✱Liquid-filled bottles or sealed fizzy drinks must not be

stored in freezer, as they may burst.

✱Lollipops and water ices should not be given to children

directly from the freezer. The low temperature may

cause ‘freezer burns’ on their lips.

✱Store ice cream towards the top front of the freezer

and remove from freezer 15-30 minutes before serving.

✱Ensure food is labelled and dated before placing in

freezer.

✱When freezing fresh food (see Model Specification).

✱Once thawed, food should be cooked and eaten within

24 hours or cooked and refrozen.

✱Fully defrost your freezer when the ice is between

3-5mm thick (see Model Specification).

Note: A thick layer of ice will increase the running costs of

your appliance.

Storing Food

Storing Food in a

Fridge

✱Pack and store cooked and fresh food

separately.

✱Wrap raw or defrosting meat and poultry

in polythene or foil and store below

cooked foods and dairy products to avoid

contamination of dripping food juices.

✱Wrap cheese in greaseproof paper and

place in an airtight polythene bag. Bring

to room temperature before consuming.

✱Empty left over canned food into a

covered storage containers before

placing in fridge.

✱Position food to allow cold air to circulate

freely, ensuring nothing comes into

contact with the cooling plate at the back

of the appliance.

✱Use the different storage zones inside

your fridge compartment to store a wide

variety of food items.

Cleaning

WARNING: Switch off electrical supply and pull out

mains plug before cleaning.

Interior

1. Remove food and wrap or cover to keep it cool/frozen.

2. Remove salad bins, racks, shelves and baskets from

each compartment and wash in warm soapy water,

dry thoroughly.

Note: Commodity racks and accessories may be washed

in a dishwasher at a low temperature, positioned on the

top rack.

3. Wipe interior and fittings with a

clean cloth wrung out in a

solution of either one teaspoon of

bicarbonate of soda to one pint of

water or Milton™ sterilising fluid,

diluted according to the

manufacturer’s instructions

(Fig 10).

4. Dry interior thoroughly with a

clean cloth before replacing

fittings and food.

Exterior

Use a small amount of detergent on a

clean damp cloth to wipe exterior

surface, dry thoroughly (Fig 11).

WARNING: Do not use abrasive

powder, household cleaner,

bleach or wax polish to clean your

appliance, they leave a smell in the

appliance and can damage the

exterior.

Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust from

the compressor and condenser situated at the back of the

appliance and from underneath the appliance.

Door Seal

Use soap and water on a

clean damp cloth to wipe

along and in between the

creases of the door seal, dry

thoroughly (Fig 12).

WARNING: Do not use

detergent, it will damage the seal.

Reconnect the mains plug and switch on.

Hotpoint recommend that you clean your appliance

before using for the first time and following

defrosting (see Model Specification for individual

appliance defrosting instructions).

Going Away

If you are going away and don’t want to use your

appliance, switch off electrical power supply and pull

out the mains plug. Remove food and follow the

defrosting instructions (see Model Specification).

Note: Leave the door ajar to prevent an accumulation

of odours.
