Fan tray overview

Back-to-front airflow fan tray

Introduction to back-to-front airflow fan tray

The HP A5830AF-48G back (power side) to front (port side) airflow Fan

Tray (JC692A), referred to as back-to-front airflow fan tray hereafter, is a

fan tray with blowing fans that blow air to the inside of the device. It

comprises four separate fans. The back-to-front airflow fan tray features

small size, fast heat dissipation, and hot swapping, and can

automatically adjust the fan speed based on the device temperature.

Figure 1 shows the structure and air flow of the fan tray.

The fan tray provides a status LED to indicate the operating status of the

module. When the switch is running, the LED can have the following

statuses:

•The LED displays green—The fan tray operates properly.

•The LED displays red—The fan tray has a fault.

•The LED is off—The fan tray is not correctly installed or has a fault.

Introduction to front-to-back airflow fan tray

The HP A5830AF-48G front (port side) to back (power side) airflow Fan

Tray (JC693A), referred to as front-to-back airflow fan tray hereafter, is

a fan tray with drawing fans that draw air from the inside of the device.

It comprises four separate fans. The front-to-back airflow fan tray

features small size, fast heat dissipation, and hot swapping, and can

automatically adjust the fan speed based on the device temperature.

Figure 2 shows the structure and air flow of the fan tray.

The fan tray provides a status LED to indicate the operating status of the

module. When the switch is running, the LED can have the following

statuses:

•The LED displays green—The fan tray operates properly.

•The LED displays red—The fan tray has a fault.

Installing and replacing a fan tray

You can install and replace the back-to-front airflow fan tray and

front-to-back airflow fan tray in the same way. For more information, see

“Installing a fan tray“ and “Replacing a fan tray.”

Installing a fan tray

IMPORTANT:

Before installing a fan tray, make sure that the airflow direction of

the module meets the ventilation requirement at the installation site.

Follow these steps to install a fan tray:

Step1 Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, and make sure that it

makes good skin contact and is properly grounded.

Step2 As shown in callout 1 of Figure 3, use a screwdriver to loosen

the captive screws on the blank filler panel of the fan tray slot,

and then remove the blank filler panel.

Step3 Unpack the fan tray.

Step4 As shown in callout 2 of Figure 3, holding the fan tray with both

hands with the upside (marked with an airflow direction label)

on top, gently push the fan tray into the slot along the guide

rails until the fan tray completely seats into the slot.

Step5 Use a Phillips screwdriver to fix the captive screws on the fan

tray to secure it into the switch chassis.

Step6 When the switch is running, check the status LED of the fan tray.

If the LED displays green, the installation is correct.
