Enhancements

This release includes the following enhancements:

•Support for EVA4000/6000/8000 controller software 5.110.

•Support for the 4-GB backend loop switch, part number 30-10022-01.

Prerequisites

Multiple-path support

4000/6000/8000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity 5.1C for Linux 5

A Linux system with EVA4000/6000/8000 storage requires the installation of HP StorageWorks

multipathing software on each host to achieve high-availability, multipath capability.

For detailed multipathing information, see the HP StorageWorks Using the QLogic HBA driver for

single-path or multi-path failover mode on Linux systems application notes.

Compatibility/Interoperability

EVA compatibility

Some component versions may change due to revision. For the latest information, see the HP storage

web site:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/index.html

Switch support

This release supports the Fibre Channel (FC) switches and firmware versions listed in the HP StorageWorks

SAN design reference guide, which you can download from the HP StorageWorks web site:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/san/documentation.html

NOTE:

HP recommends that you

not

mix switch firmware versions in a SAN. It is a best practice to uniformly

upgrade all switches in the SAN.

Failover/failback

Failback preference settings for the HSV controllers are specific to the operating system. For operating

system failback information, see the HP StorageWorks 4000/6000/8000 Enterprise Virtual Array

user guide.

Integrity server support

The following Integrity servers are EVA compatible:

•rx8620

•rx7620

•rx5670

•rx4640

•rx26x0

•rx16x0

•Superdome

Boot support

Boot from SAN is supported on the following Linux platforms:

•SLES 8 SP4

•SLES 9 SP3

•Red Hat EL 3 U6

•Red Hat EL 4 U2

NOTE:

Boot from SAN is

not

supported with a PCIe card.

Storage System Scripting Utility for EVA

The latest version of the Storage System Scripting Utility (SSSU) is available on the HP storage web site:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/cmdvieweva/index.html

From this web site, click Support & Drivers.

Important notes

Changing the ProLiant BIOS

If you have a ProLiant server with four or more HBAs, you must change the MPS Table Mode setting in the

BIOS; otherwise, your system may not detect all attached devices. To change the MPS Table Mode setting:

1. Press F1 to access the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) during power-on self-test (POST).

This typically occurs after 5i Disk Array initialization.

2. Select System Options > OS Selection > Linux.

3. Select Advanced Options > MPS Table Mode.

4. Select Auto Set Table.

5. Press Esc twice, and then press F10 to save the configuration.
