Easy to use and with a built-in grass
box, it’s ideal for the small lawn.
Operating & Safety Guide 558
Watch your footing, especially on wet and/or sloping
ground. To mow a bank, always stand on top of it
rather than on the slope.
If the mower should strike a stone or something
similar, stop mowing at once. Switch OFF and
inspect for damage. If in doubt, contact your local HSS
Hire Shop for advice.
Always keep the lead well away from the cutters.
Ideally, work away from the power source so the lead is
behind and/or to one side of you.
To hover, the mower creates a down draft. The air
is drawn in to the unit via two square openings, each
side of the grass collection box’s base, allowing a vacuum
action for grass collection. As the box fills, it becomes
heavy and air flow is restricted.
If the mower stops hovering or is difficult to manoeuvre,
empty the grass collection box, remembering to
switch OFF and unplug the mower first.
Release the catch while supporting the box with
one hand in the recess provided, then slide it out.
Once empty, slide the grass box back into
the mower body and check that the catch is
fully engaged.
Never push the equipment beyond its design
limits. If it will not do what you want with reasonable
ease, assume you have the wrong equipment for the
job. Contact your local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Never float a mower over anything other than
moderately short grass. Keep the equipment clean,
paying special attention to any air vents. You will find this
less of a chore if you clean up regularly rather than wait
until the end of the hire period.
Remove grass from the mower’s underside with a
suitable scraper.
Regularly inspect the mower’s cutters and replace
them if they are damaged or worn.
To change cutters, slot the new ones onto the pins
on the edge of the drive wheel and pull tight.
Do not leave the mower standing in the sun. The
heat could damage the safety cut-out mechanism.
Safety Cut-out
An electric mower will automatically switch OFF if
it overheats. Just let it cool then reset as directed
on the ON/OFF control’s box. If this cut-out trips
repeatedly without reason, contact your local HSS
Hire Shop for advice.
EQUIPMENT CARE
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
Release the ON/OFF control and wait for moving
parts to stop, then unplug the mower from its
power socket and neatly coil its lead.
Restore the handle to the transit position ready for
return to your local HSS Hire Shop.

GENERAL SAFETY
HSS electric lawn mowers plug into a standard
13amp power socket.
If the equipment fails, or if its flex or plug gets
damaged, return it. Never try to repair it yourself.
Keep flexes out of harm’s way, and clear of the
work area.
Extension leads should be fully unwound and
loosely coiled, away from the equipment. Never run
them through water, over sharp edges or where they
could trip someone.
Using electrical equipment in very damp or wet
conditions can be dangerous.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, an
RCD (Residual Current-Operated Device) is
supplied with this machine.
Check the condition of the equipment before use.
If it shows signs of damage or excessive wear, do not use
it. Return it to your local HSS Hire Shop.
Clear the lawn of everything that could get in
the mowers way, sticks, stones, tools, washing
lines etc.
Set the handle in the working position and stand
the mower on level ground ready for starting; making
sure there is nothing, such as long grass, to foul
the cutters.
Fit the supply load socket to the mower (see
illustration) ensuring the cap has located correctly.
Having plugged the mower into its power supply, tilt
it slightly to one side until the cutters are clear of
the ground.
Now, press the Lock-OFF button and squeeze the
ON/OFF control to start the motor. Once the motor
has reached full speed, carefully tilt the mower back
into the horizontal position.
It should hover just above the ground, ready to
begin mowing.
To mow, simply push the mower forward, keeping
your feet clear of the mower cutters. Never pull
the mower backward.
For the best results, move in a straight line, tackling
the lawn in a series of overlapping strips.
