replacement procedures must be

performed with power turned off and

with

the

power cord disconnected.

All

persons handling a CRT

who

are near an exposed CRT under

vacuum must wear safety glasses and

long-sleeved garments.

High

voltage can be present when

are working on

the

machine with

SAFETY

PRACTICES

All

Customer

Engineers are

expected

take every

safety

precaution

possible

and

observe

the

following

safety

practices

while

maintaining

IBM

equipment:

should

not

work

alone

under

hazardous

conditions

around

equipment

with

dangerous voltage.

Always

advise

your

manager

you

MUST

work

alone.

Remove

all

power

and

when

removing

assembling

major

components,

working

immediate

area

power

supplies,

performing

mechanical

inspection

power

supplies

and

installing

changes

machine

circuitry.

Pull

the

power

plug

from

the

receptacle

remove

power

source.

3. Wall

box

power

switch,

when

used

disconnect

power,

should

locked

tagged in

off

position.

When

chemicals,

etc.

be hazardous

eyes.

maintenance.

unsafe

exposes

hazards

personnel.

13. Place removed

machine

covers

a safe

out·of-the-way

place

where

one

can

trip

over

them.

14. All

machine

covers

must

place

before

machine

returned

customer.

15. Always place

tool kit away from wal k areas where

one

can

trip

over it !i.e.,

under

desk

table).

16. Avoid

to~ching

mechanical moving

parts

(i.e., when

lubricating, checking for play, etc.).

17. When using

stroboscope

not

touch

ANYTHING -

be moving.

18. Avoid wearing loose

clothing

that

may

caught

machinery.

sleeves

must

be left

buttoned

rolled above

the

elbow.

19. Ties

must

tucked

shirt

have a tie clasp

(preferably

nonconductive)

approximately

3 inches

from

end.

Tie

chains

are

not

recommended.

20. Before powering

or starting

equipment,

make

certain

other

CEs

and

customer

personnel are

not

hazardous

position.

21. Maintain good

housekeeping

area

machines while

performing

and

after

completing

maintenance.

22. Even

though

preventive measures are

taken,

accidents

occur. CEs

and

support

personnel

should

prepared

emergency

first

aid

procedures

outlined

below.

First

Aid

-General

1. If accidental

electrocution

occurs:

Remove

power

source

before

touching

victim.

b. If

power

cannot

be removed, pull victim away from

equipment

by using

non-conductive

material such

as a

broom

handle,

leather

belt,

necktie.

begin rescue breathing; see below.

d. Begin CPR if necessary

only

trained

person

available.

e. Call a

doctor.

someone

summon

medical aid.

Remain

victim revives, be ready
