D. UNPACKING AND ASSEMBLY

1. Openthe boxand removethe top layer of protective

foam. Thefollowing items will nowbe visibIe:

NOTE:If any of these items are not included please

contact yourauthorized dealer immediatelyf6r assis-

tance.

2. Removethe contents fromthe secondlayer of foam

andset themaside for later use. Carefullyremovethe

unit fromits boxandremovethe protective plastic wrap.

NOTE:Saveall packing.materials. If youmustship your

CD-1in the future repacktlae unit. in its original pa.ckag-

ing to preventtransit damage.If ttle unit is returnedto

KRELLfor service please send the remotecontrol.

3. Remove_the shipping transport screws fromthe_

bottomo1"the unit. Theirlocations are markedwitha

sticker on the bottomof the chassis.

CAUTION: FAILURE TO REMOVETRANSPORT

SCREWSBEFORE OPERATION COULDRESULT IN

DAMAGETO THE TRANSPORT.

4. Removethe voltage identification sticker fromthe

backof the unit.

E. BASIC INSTALLATION AND

AND CONNECTIONS

1. Place the unit on a clean level surface awayfrom

excessiveheat, moist.ureor light. Ideally, the CD-1

should be placedon the top of an audio componentstacl~,

ontop of a cabinet, or anyrigid open-airplatform.

2. Connectthe ACpowercord to the backof the unit.

Oncethe powercord is secured plug the cord into an AC

outlet.

Whenthe CD-1is connectedto the ACoutlet youwill

hear a soft clicking sound.Thedisplay on the front panel

mayilluminate duringinitial powerup; if not, depressthe

powerbutton and the display will comeon.

NOTE:While the CD-1has superb regulation and does

not require a dedicatedACcircuit, westrongly advise

against any connectionsthrough extension cords or mul-

tiple ACadaptors. Highquality 15 amplineconditioners

or groundedACstrips are acceptable. Donot removeor

bypass the groundplnon the end of the ACcord. This

maycause RFI(radio frequencyinterference) to be in-

ducedinto your playbacksystem.

CAUTION:Whenmaking connections to this component

or any other makesure th~ poweramplifier is OFFand

the preamplifier is in the MUTEor STANDBYmode.

3. TheCD-1is equippedwith twoanalog output configu-

ra.tions: Single-ended-via RCAconnectors and Balanced

via XLRconnectors.

Connectthe appropriate OUTPUTof the CD-1to the line

level INPUTof your preamplifier.

NOTE:Th.e single:ended and balanced outputs can be

usedsimultaneouslyto feed twodifferent systems.

4. If youare using the CD-1as a dedicatedtransport

connectthe Digital Outputfromthe CD-1to a I£rell

Digital Processoror other compatibledigital,to-analog

audio processor. TheCD-1is compatiblewith industry

standard fibre optic, coaxial c@leor optional AT&T.fibre

optic interface. Thelocation ot the unit shouldbe within

2 metersof the digital signal processor.If a longerdis-

tance is required werecommendusing an AT&Tfibre

optic data rink, as it is moresuited to longruns.

Careshouldbe taken in selecting the type of cable used

to link the CD-1 to yourprocessor.If coaxialcable is to

be usedit shouldbe 75o1~m,non-capacitive, with a band-

width in excess of 10MHzto prevent dropouterrors.

CAUTION:TheCD-1digital output is not designed to

connect directly to any preampor analog signal proces-

sor.

F. OPERATIONOF THE

CD TRANSPORT

. Turnt_he CDtransport Onby pressing t.he POWER

utton, l-’ress the Open/Closebuttonandthe transport

drawerwill open. Select a disc andplaceit in the CD

receptacle, label side up. Press the Open/Closebutton

andthe transport drawerwill close. Nowyouare readyto

start.

2. Thefunctionsof the front panel buttonsthat control

the transport are describedbelow.All of the functions of

the CD-Iremainthe samewhenused as a dedicated

transport.

PLAY

STOP

Starts the disc playingat track 1;

will also restart playof the current track

Stopsthe disc fromplayingandclears all

programming

Forwardtrack select; sameas NEXTremote

function

Reversetrack select; sameas PREVremote

function

Fast forwardscan

Fast reverse scan

NOTE:Whenused as a dedicated transport the analog

outputscan still be usedto drive a separate system.

G. REMOTE CONTROL

1. Operatingfunctions of the RemoteControl are de-

scribed below:

ThePLAYbutton will start playing the disc fromtrack 1.

TheSTOP/CMbutton will stop the disc from playing and

clear all programmemory.

The NEXTbutton will moveforward one track.

The PREVbutton will movebackwardone track.

ThePAUSEbutton will temporarily stop the musicor a

track selection program;Press the PAUSEbutton again to

resumeplay fromthe samepoint.

The>>button will scan forwardwithin a track.

The<<button will scan backwardtowards the beginning

of a track.

TheREPEATbutton will repeat the entire disc or a track

selection program.Press the REPEATbutton to defeat

the function.

a. Torepeat an entire track selection program:Press the

repeat button after youhave programmedyour selec.-

tions. PressPlayandthe programwill repeat after it laas

finished.

b. Torepeat an individual track: Enter the track number,

press the Programbu. tton andthen press the Repe~atbut-

ton. PressPlayandtreat singletrack will repeatatter it

hasfinished.

2. Track Programming:

Theremotecontrol for the CD-1can be used to program

specific tracks to be playedin the 6rder youchoose. The

CD-1can store up to 20 selections per program.

a. Select the track numberwhichwill start the sequence

into the keypad, then push the PROGRbutton. A"P

c. Onceyouhave finished your programming,push the

PROGRbutton again. Themactiine will review the tracks

e. Press the REPEATbutton and the machinewill pla.y

yourselected tracks continuouslyin the sameorder they

were programmed.

BATTERYINSTALLATION

1. Turnthe remotecontrol over ontoits front andslide

the battery coverto the left until it is free fromthe con-

trol.

2. Insert the three batteries suppliedinto the remote

control as describedon the diagramin the remote. Slide

the battery coverbackontothe remotecontrol.

NOTEIThebatteries should be replaced once a year or

whentlae remotecontrol is nolonger performingconsis-

tently.

H. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q.I haveinstalled the CD-1but the "Error"signal flashes

whenI press PLAY.Whatshould I do?

A. 1. Checkto see if youremovedthe transport screws

from the bottomof the unit as stated in the UNPACKING

ANDASSEMBLYsection of this manual.

2. Makesure the CDis centered in the drawer,free to

moveand not wedgedinto the drawer.

3. Makesure there is nothingin the transport receptacle

with the CD.

4. Try another CD

CAUTION:Should none of the above be the cause of

~ourdifficulty donot attemptanyrepair of .this unit..

Q. Doyou recommendI leave the CD-1ONat all times?

A. Yes. Thesecircuits are mostaccurate and stable when

left to idle while not in use. Lowvoltage/lowpower

discrete parts age faster whencycled ONand OFEThe

CD-1 will soun~tbetter andlast longerif left ON.

NOTE:Youshould disconnect the ACcord from the wall

outlet beforeanyelectrical stormsor if youplan to be

awayfromyour homefor prolongedperiods of time.

Q. Will the CD-1play CDsingles?

A. Yes, TheCD-1will play CDsingles.

Q. Howdo I stop a disc with out cancelling the program?

A. ThePause button will temporarily stop the music

withoutdisrupting the program.P~e:ss Pauseagain to

Q. CanI programfromthe machineor only fromthe
