Preface
- Magtube-Audio with passion for music and technics -
The emotional result of an audio device is always due to the interaction of all circuit details,
components and materials used. A pure material battle can lead to improvements in
individual disciplines, but never to real musicality. In order to approach the ideal of
emotional music playback, the developer needs passion and decades of experience. This
includes knowing the peculiarities of loudspeakers and various circuit designs in order to
develop the one that comes closest to its sound ideal from the countless possible
combinations.
The Unity SE60 is an innovative HiFi Class-A tube amplifier for small and medium-sized
rooms. It has a new developed single-ended circuit technology with a special separation of
the voltage and current amplifier stages. Groundbreaking are a studio double triode of the
type E88CC (6922) for the level amplification (voltage) and a powerful beam power tetrode
of the type KT88 (among others) for the power (current).
●Real tube class-A amplifier with respectable output power and very low THD
distortion for 4 to 8 Ω speakers.
●High dynamic reproduction as well as great output stability,
also for complex loudspeakers (stable with no-load).
●Automatic bias / quiescent current control with microcontroller.
●Electronically stabilized power supply with moderate power consumption.
●Infrared remote control with motorized potentiometer from 2018.
●Solid, low-resonance aluminum housing in a modern design.
●All handmade in Germany.

Warnings and Safety Notices
For your own safety, please read these operating instructions completely and in particular
follow the installation, operating and safety instructions carefully. The device must be set
up in such a way that all device connections (especially by children or pets) cannot be
touched.
A damaged or faulty device must be put out of operation immediately and identified as
defective. It must be secured against reuse until it is properly repaired. Make sure that the
mains connection socket for the power cord is freely accessible. Do not open the case. In
order to avoid a risk from high electrical voltage, hot tubes and the risk of electric shock,
only specialists may open the device housing.
Maintenance and Service
To prevent further dangers, service work, repairs and other changes to Magtube devices
are reserved for specialists only. Defective fuses may only be replaced by specialists with
the specified fuse type and the same nominal current. In the event of service, send the
device directly to Magtube Audio or to an authorized service center. Please use the
supplied reusable packaging with padding.
Changes to Magtube Devices
The use of so-called audio grade fuses and operation with other power cord lines is at your
own risk. The guarantee expires. The same applies to the use of contact spray on the tube
bases. They are ennobled anyway and do not require any additional maintenance.
Grounding
This device corresponds to protection class 1 (device with protective earth). In the event of
an error to rule out the risk of electric shock, it must be grounded via the protective
conductor. For this use the supplied 3-pin power cord.

Heat E issions
In principle, tube a plifiers produce heat e issions. Therefore, please note the
following points:
Never touch the tubes or the tube covers during operation, as these can become very hot.
Place the device as airy as possible and ensure an unobstructed air supply. Do not place
any objects onto the device. Let the device cool down before moving or transporting it.
Place the device so that it is out of the reach of children.
The device may only be opened by a qualified specialist. Repairs and the replacement of
fuses must be carried out by an authorized specialist company. In the event of damage or
suspected improper function of the device, the mains plug should be pulled out
immediately and the device should be taken to an authorized service center for inspection.
The device is at risk due to surges in the power supply network, the cable network or
antenna systems, such as those e.g. in the event of a thunderstorm (lightning strike) or
static discharges. Special ballast units such as surge protectors offers certain protection
against device damages. However, only complete isolation of the device from the mains
and antenna systems can guarantee absolute protection against damage from
overvoltages.

Prepare
Before you start with your amplifier, the electron tubes have to be inserted and the tube
protection guard has to be put on before powered up. Usage of the device without the
protective guard is not permitted and is at your own risk!
Asse bly
Preliminary stage: double triode type E88CC (USA: 6922)
Power stage: KT88 or 6550A beam power pentode
The Unity SE60 autobias circuit alternatively enables the use of the more powerful KT90,
KT100, KT120 or KT150 tube types.
Before inserting the tubes and in case of danger, you should always pull the mains plug.
Allow the device and tubes to cool down for a while if necessary before changing them.
The tubes are inserted into the respective ceramic socket with a slightly circular motion.
Note the corresponding connection notch and the guide lug of the socket.

Connection
The marking of the power supply required for the device can be found at the IEC power
supply socket. For North America, 115V 60 Hz usually applies. The device may not be
connected to other power supplies. If the device is not to be used for a longer period, it
should be pulled out of the mains socket. Power cords must be laid in such a way that
there is no risk of damage. Particular care is required on the plugs, socket affords and at
the connection points of the device.

Operation
All needed controls are accessible at the front of the Unity SE60.
1HV high-voltage LED for soft start
2Power switch ON / OFF
3Line 1 / Line 2 input selector switch with LED
4Volume control (motor driven)
The functions 3 Input selector switch and 4 Volume control can also be set from the
remote control. The volume control is adjusted by a motor potentiometer. The Line LED
display shows the current active input.

Autobias with Status LED
The Unity SE60 has four digital auto bias controller for the tubes best operational point.
This compensates for tolerances and aging of the electron tubes as well as fluctuations in
the mains voltage. It also enables the operation of other tube types (see table).
The Status LED flash codes correspond to:
Switch On = flashing (0.8 s): heating phase of the tubes (filament).
Autobias = fast flashing (1.5 s): adjust quiescent currents for the pre and power stage.
Operation = continuous lighting: quiescent currents reached and stabilized.
Error codes flashing: (1.5 s) Autobias cannot adjust quiescent current.
Cut off the HV anode voltage: (3 s) Mains voltage too low.
(6 s) Overcurrent of the power stage tubes.
(12 s) Overtemperature of the device.
The quiescent currents are adjusted based on previously determined values from the last
operation of the device. After new tubes has been fitted, the time for auto adjustment can
be particularly longer. This is usually only a one-off and will shorten again when the device
is in operation.
If new tubes cannot be auto adjusted (flashing (1.5 s) for more than 15 minutes), you
should first equip the right and left side individually and switch them on.
