Important Safety Instruction –

Read before Installing this Product

Safety of Persons

►

The UPS has its own internal power source (the battery). Consequently, the power outlets

may be energized even if the UPS is disconnected from the AC-power source.

Dangerous voltage levels are present within the UPS. It should be opened

exclusively by qualified service personnel.

The UPS must be properly earthed. Measurements are required to ensure

that the total leakage current of the UPS and the protected equipment

does not exceed 3.5mA by checking their characteristics.

The battery supplied with the UPS contains small amounts of toxic materials. To avoid

accidents, the directives listed below must be observed:

- Never burn the battery (risk of explosion).

- Do not attempt to open the battery (the electrolyte is dangerous for the eyes and skin).

- Comply with all applicable regulations for the disposal of the battery.

- Batteries constitute a danger (electrical shock, burns). The short-circuit current may be

very high. Precautions must be taken for all handing: remove watches, rings, bracelets

and any other metal objects, use tools with insulated handles.

Product Safety

The UPS connection instructions and operation described in the manual must be followed

in the indicated order.

UPS must be connected to a nearby wall outlet that is easily accessible. The UPS can be

disconnected from the AC-power source by removing the power cord.

Check that the indications on the rating plate correspond to your AC-power system and to

the actual electrical consumption of all the equipment to be connected to the UPS.

Never install the UPS near liquids or in an excessively damp environment

Never let a foreign body penetrate inside the UPS.

Never block the ventilation grates of the UPS.

Never expose the UPS to direct sunlight or a source of heat.

If the UPS must be stored prior to installation, storage must be in a dry place.

The admissible storage temperature range is –25°C to +55°C

Special Precautions

Once installed and connected to the AC power source for the first time, the battery will start

to charge. Full charging to obtain the rated battery backup time requires at least 8 hours.

Before and after the installation, if the UPS remains de-energized for a long period, the

UPS must be energized for a period of 24 hours, at least once every 6 months (for a normal

storage temperature less than 25°C). This charges the battery, thus avoiding possible

irreversible damage.

During the replacement of the battery module, it is imperative to use the same type and

number of element previously mounted in the UPS, in order to maintain an identical level of

performance and safety. In case of doubt, don’t hesitate to contact our after sales

1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing a NOVA AVR Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

from MGE UPS SYSTEMS. The NOVA AVR UPS is specially designed for PC

users and will provide many years of accurate, trouble-free power protection.

Please read this manual fully to familiarize yourself with the safety section and

many features of the NOVA AVR product.

2. Installation

CAUTION:

Always turn off all power to the computer prior to making any NOVA AVR connections.

Connecting equipment

2> Connect UPS input cord to a properly sized AC outlet.

3> Connect critical devices (computer, monitor, and modem) to the output outlets.

Notes:

1> As soon as the UPS is connected to power, the battery begins charging, whatever the On/Off switch

position. When the UPS is operating on battery power, Solution-Pac software will indicate how much

time is left at the current level of load. The indicated time remaining is an approximation based on

several load-power curves.

2> If the utility power failure exceeds the battery backup time, the UPS will shut down to prevent

excessive battery discharge and will restart as soon as utility power returns.

3> After a power outage, when the battery is partially or fully depleted, the indicated time remaining on

battery may not be accurate. Always exercise caution when operating your equipment under these

circumstances until the batteries have had enough time to completely recharge.

4> The overload breaker trips off during a severe overload. If this occurs, unplug excessive loads and

reset circuit breaker by pressing its reset button.

5> Lead-acid batteries operating inside a UPS will last from two to four years before needing

replacement, depending on the environment. Before they quit operating entirely, you should contact

MGE to order replacement batteries. Doing so will greatly increase the likelihood of protecting your

equipment from power black-outs.

6> Do not connect non-computer type loads to NOVA AVR outlets.

5. Battery Replacement

CAUTION:

Read and follow safety instructions before removing batteries. This

must be done by qualified personnel due to risk of high energy.

¾Switch off the UPS and disconnect it from utility power and critical loads

¾Remove watches, rings or other metal objects

¾Use tools with insulated handles

Note:

NOVA 1100 AVR battery replacement is very similar to NOVA 600 AVR except the 1100 VA has

two (2) batteries. Total battery voltage is 12V for NOVA 600 AVR and 24V for NOVA 1100 AVR.

Disposal of the old battery

Never throw the battery in a fire (risk of explosion)

Do not attempt to open the battery (the electrolyte can harm the skin and eyes)

Store the battery in a dry location

The battery contains lead, a substance that can harm the environment if the battery is not

disposed of correctly

The battery must be recycled by a certified organization, in compliance with applicable

regulations

Drop the battery off at authorized collection points or contact MGE UPS SYSTEMS to have the

battery collected and recycled

7. Trouble Shooting

Sécurité des personnes

L’ASI possède sa propre source d’énergie interne (batterie). Les prises de sorties peuvent

donc être sous tension même si l’ASI est déconnectée du réseau.

Présence de tension dangereuse à l’intérieur de l’ASI. Son ouverture ne

peut être effectuée que par un personnel qualifié.

L’ASI doit être impérativement reliée à la terre. S’assurer lors de

l’installation que la somme des courants de fuites de l’ASI et des

équipements qu’elle alimente ne dépasse pas 3.5mA en vérifiant leurs caractéristiques.

La batterie fournie avec l’ASI contient une faible quantité de substances toxiques. Afin

d’éviter tout accident, les consignes suivantes doivent être respectées :

- Ne pas jeter la batterie au feu (risque d’explosion)

- Ne pas tenter d’ouvrir la batterie (électrolyte dangereux pour les yeux et la peau).

- La mise au rebus doit être réalisée conformément à la législation en vigueur.

- La batterie présente des risques électriques (chocs électriques, brûlures). Le courant de

court-circuit peut être très important. Des précautions doivent être prises pour les

manipulations : ôter montre, bagues, bracelet ou tout autre objet métallique, utiliser des

outils isolés.

Sécurité du produit

Respecter impérativement l’ordre des consignes de raccordement et de mise en service

décrites dans ce manuel.

L’ASI devra être raccordée à une prise d’alimentation située à proximité et facilement

accessible. La séparation du réseau électrique s’effectue en débranchant le cordon

d’alimentation.

Vérifier les indications portées sur la plaque d’identification : elles doivent correspondrent à

votre réseau électrique d’alimentation et à la consommation électrique réelle de l’ensemble

des équipements connectés.

Ne pas passer placer l’ASI à proximité de liquide ou dans un environnement d’humidité

excessive.

Ne pas laisser pénétrer d’objet étranger à l’intérieur de l’ASI.

Ne pas obstruer les grilles d’aération de l’ASI.

Ne pas exposer l’ASI au soleil ou à proximité d’une source de chaleur.

En cas de stockage avant mise en service, placer l’ASI dans un endroit à l’abri de

l’humidité.

Température de stockage : -25°C à +55°C

Précautions particulières

Lors de la première mise en service, après raccordement au réseau électrique, la batterie

se charge. La charge complète permettant une autonomie nominale ne sera atteinte

qu’après au moins 8 heures de charge

Avant et après l’installation, si l’ASI doit rester hors tension pour une longue durée, elle doit

être remise sous tension pendant une durée de 24 heures, au moins une fois tous les 6

mois (dans le cas d’une température de stockage inférieure à 25°C), afin de recharger les

batteries sous peine de dégradation irréversible de celle-ci.

Lors du remplacement des batteries internes de l’ASI, il est impératif d’utiliser le même

nombre et le même type d’éléments batterie que ceux montés dans l’appareil, ceci afin de

garantir un bon niveau de fonctionnement et de sécurité de l’ASI. En cas de doute, ne pas

hésiter à faire appel à notre service après-vente (coordonnées sur le site web

MGE UPS SYSTEMS pour assurer la protection de vos équipements. La

gamme NOVA AVR a été spécialement conçue pour alimenter et protéger le

matériel informatique (ordinateurs et périphériques), dont elle assurera la

protection avec un haut niveau de fiabilité durant plusieurs années. Pour

exploiter au mieux les performances de NOVA AVR et vous familiariser avec ce

produit, nous vous conseillons de prendre le temps de lire ce manuel.

2. Installation

Les opérations de dépannage doivent être assurées par un personnel qualifié.

2> Raccorder le cordon réseau de l’ASI sur la prise d’alimentation.

3> Connecter les équipements critiques (ordinateur, écran, modem) sur les prises de sorties à l’aide

des cordons fournis.

Nota :

1> Dès que l’ASI est alimentée, la batterie se charge, quelle que soit la position du bouton marche/arrêt.

2> Si la durée de la défaillance du réseau électrique d’alimentation dépasse l’autonomie batterie, l’ASI

s’arrête pour éviter une décharge profonde de la batterie. L’ASI redémarre automatiquement dès le

retour du réseau électrique.

3> Le disjoncteur d’entrée réseau se déclenche lors d’une surcharge sévère en sortie de l’ASI. Si cela

se produit, débrancher la charge excessive et réarmer le disjoncteur.

4> Raccorder exclusivement des équipements de type informatique (ordinateur, écran, modem,

imprimante) sur les prises de sorties de NOVA AVR.

5. Remplacement des batteries

ATTENTION:

Lire attentivement les consignes de sécurités avant de remplacer les

batteries. Cette opération doit être effectuée par un personnel

qualifié.

¾Arrêter l’ASI et déconnecter le réseau électrique d’alimentation.

¾Oter des mains montres, bagues ou tout autre objet métallique.

¾Utiliser des outils isolés.

Remplacement des batteries du NOVA 600 AVR

Description des étapes :

1. Dévisser la face avant

3. Déconnecter les câbles batterie

Nota:

Le remplacement des batteries de NOVA 1100 AVR est très similaire au NOVA 600 AVR, avec 2

batteries à l’intérieur. La tension batterie est de 12V pour NOVA 600 AVR, et 24V pour NOVA

1100 AVR.

Mise au rebut des batteries

►

Ne pas jeter la batterie au feu (risque d’explosion)

Ne pas tenter d’ouvrir la batterie (électrolyte dangereux pour les yeux et la peau).

Conserver les batteries dans un endroit sec.

Les batteries contiennent du plomb, une substance dangereuse pour l’environnement si les

batteries ne sont pas recyclées correctement.

Les batteries doivent être recyclées par un organisme agréé, conformément à la législation en

vigueur.

Déposer les batteries usagées dans des centres de récupération prévus à cet effet ou contacter

MGE UPS SYSTEMS pour avoir la liste des sociétés agréées pour le recyclage
