4. Recommend nottolookat pick-up lensforalong time.

4. Handling Precautions forTraverse Deck

Thelaserdiodeinthetraverse deck (optical pick-up)may break downduetopotential difference

causedbystaticelectricityofclothes or humanbody.

So, becareful ofelectrostaticbreakdownduring repairofthetraverse deck (optical pick-up).

4.1. Handling oftraverse deck (optical pick-up)

1. Donotsubject theoptical pick-up tostaticelectricityas itis

extremelysensitivetoelectrical shock.

2. To protect thelaserdiodeagainst electrostaticbreakdown, be

surethat theshortland oftheflexibleboard(FFCboard)shouldbe

short-circuitbysolderbeforeinserting ashortpinorsimilarobject

intothetipoftheflexibleboard. / (Referto Fig. 4-1. )

alreadybeenadjusted. (Referto Fig. 4-1. )

Fig. 4-1.

4.2. Caution whenreplacing traverse deck

Thetraverse deck short-circuitsthefoil (B) toprotectthelaserdiodeagainstelectrostatic

breakdown. Besuretocutthefoil (B) beforemaking connection. Take carenottomake contact

withcutting pointeachother. (Referto Fig. 4-1. )

4.3. Grounding forelectrostaticbreakdownprevention

4.3.1. Humanbodygrounding

Use theanti-staticwriststraptodischargethestaticelectricityfrom your body. (Referto Fig. 4-2.

Fig. 4-2.

4.3.2. Worktablegrounding

Putaconductive material (sheet) or steel sheeton thearea wherethetraverse deck (optical pick-

up)isplaced, and ground thesheet. (Referto Fig. 4-3. )

Fig. 4-3.

Caution:

Thestaticelectricityofyourclothes will notbegroundedthrough

thewrist strap.

Sotake carenottolet yourclothes touchthetraverse deck (optical

pick-up).
