Important Battery Tips

Charge the battery until the battery indicator turns green only when it is completely dis-

charged

The battery deteriorates each time it is charged. By charging the battery only when it has become completely

discharged, you will reduce the number of charges, and thus extend the life of your battery. Do not charge the

battery repeatedly before it is discharged.

To help reduce the number of charges, the battery can only be recharged when the remaining power is less than

about 95% of capacity.

Charge the battery in a temperature range of 10°C to 30°C {50°F to 86°F}

The battery deteriorates more quickly when it is charged at high temperatures. Do not charge the battery in high

temperature environments, such as in a closed car in the hot sun.

When the battery temperature is outside the allowable temperature range, the battery indicator blinks orange and

charging will not begin.

Charge the battery while the computer/wireless display is powered off

Even if the environmental temperature is within the allowable temperature range, if the computer’s/wireless display’s

power is on, the battery temperature rises due to the effects of heat from the CPU and other components. Since

this heat can lead to deterioration of the battery, we recommend that you only charge the battery when the

computer/wireless display is powered off.

Use the high temperature mode

The high temperature mode is a function that prevents deterioration of the battery in high temperature environ-

ments.

We recommend setting the high temperature mode function when installing the computer in a car or other location

where the temperature may rise above the allowable temperature range.

How to set the high temperature mode

Set [Environment] in the [Main] menu of the Setup Utility to [High Temperature].

Set [Environment] in the [Battery] menu of the setting menus to [High Temperature].

We also recommend setting the high temperature mode function in the following situations.

When using the computer/wireless display for a long period of time with the AC adaptor connected.

When long-term battery operation is not required.

1. Charging the battery

If the battery pack will not be used for a long period of time (a month or more), to main-

tain the performance of the battery, charge or discharge (use) the battery pack until the

remaining battery level is between 30% and 40%, then remove it from the computer and

store it in a cool, dry place.

If the battery pack is left connected to the unit, it will discharge gradually even when the computer is powered off.

If this continues for a long period of time (more than a few months), the battery will be subject to excessive

discharge, which may cause deterioration of the battery.

If the battery pack is stored in high temperature locations, such as in a closed car in the hot sun, it will deteriorate

more quickly. Store the battery pack in a location that will remain between 10°C and 30°C {50°F to 86°F}.

2. Storing the battery pack

Important Battery Tips

Leave the computer/wireless display off when it is not in use

Adjust the LCD’s brightness (darker) by setting [Backlight] in the [General] menu of the

settings menus

Using this menu setting will lower the LCD’s brightness, thereby reducing the power consumption.

When not using the computer, put the computer in the standby or hibernation mode by

selecting menu from the shut down screen of Windows.

This operation lower the power consumption of the computer.

Windows 2000

Use [Control Panel] - [Power Options] for detailed power settings

Windows XP

Use [Control Panel] - [Performance and Maintenance] - [Power Options] for detailed power

settings

Use [LCD Off Timer] or [Power Off Timer] in the [Option] menu of the settings menus for

detailed power settings

We recommend using the AC adaptor

We recommend that you keep the AC adaptor with the computer whenever possible, even when using the com-

puter on the road.

We recommend against using applications that place a significant load on the CPU

Some screen savers place a large burden on the CPU. When using these screen savers, a significant load is

placed on the CPU even when the computer is not being used. We recommend that you do not use screen saver

programs.

Remove peripheral devices (USB devices, PC Cards, external mouse, etc.) when not in

use

Accurately display battery capacity by using “Refresh Battery”

If the battery pack has been left unused for a long period of time, or if the battery has deteriorated, the remaining

battery capacity may not be displayed accurately. In this case, use the “Refresh Battery” function to update the

battery capacity display.

3. Using the battery pack efficiently

Important Battery Tips

Use or store the battery pack in the temperature range of 10°C to 30°C {50°F to 86°F}

Do not leave the battery pack for extended periods where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, in a hot place (in a

closed car in the hot sun, for example), or in a cold place.

Using or storing the battery pack repeatedly or continuously outside the temperature range of 10°C to 30°C {50°F

to 86°F} will shorten the life of the battery.

Do not touch the terminals on the battery pack or the computer/wireless display

The battery pack may not function properly if the contacts are dirty or damaged. Also, the computer may not

operate properly.

Do not insert/remove the battery pack while the computer is in the standby mode

Removing the battery pack while the computer is in the standby mode may cause data to be erased and may

cause the computer to malfunction.

Charging time and discharge time differs depending on the computer’s/wireless display’s

temperature and power status

It takes longer to fully charge the battery when the computer’s/wireless display’s power is on. To charge the

battery more quickly, power the computer/wireless display off, or put it in the standby or the hibernation mode.

It takes longer to fully charge the battery in low temperature environments.

The battery discharges more quickly in low temperature environments.

4. Things to keep in mind when using the battery pack

Important Battery Tips

The battery pack has a function for measuring, storing, and learning about battery capacity. Using this function

properly to accurately display remaining battery capacity requires that the battery be fully charged (charged to 100%),

then fully discharged, and then fully charged again.

This procedure should be performed once after you purchase the computer/wireless display. As you use the battery

pack over a long period of time, the remaining capacity display may become inaccurate due to battery deterioration

and other factors. If this is the case, the procedure described below should be performed again.

1Attach the battery pack and connect the AC adaptor

Remove all peripherals (except for the battery pack and AC adaptor).

2Use the “Refresh Battery” utility to fully discharge the battery

1Run the Setup Utility.

2Select [Refresh Battery] from [Exit] menu, then press Enter .

3At the confirmation message, select [Yes], then press Enter .

3Allow the battery to charge until the battery indicator turns green

Important Touchscreen Tips

Basic operation

Operate the touchscreen with an approved stylus

When using the touchscreen function, use only an approved stylus on the surface.

Operating the touchscreen with an object other than the stylus (a fingernail or metal object, or other hard or sharp

objects that may leave a mark) may scar or stain the surface, causing the touchscreen to malfunction.

Do not apply too much pressure when operating the touchscreen

Only a light touch is required to operate the touchscreen. Applying too much pressure may damage the surface.

Clicking (Tapping)

Tap once

Double-clicking (Double-tapping)

Tap twice quickly

Dragging

Touch and hold the object, and then

move the stylus across the surface of

the screen

Moving the cursor

Move the stylus over the surface of the

screen

1. Operation of the touchscreen

When the touchscreen becomes dirty, wipe it with an approved soft cloth

The touchscreen is specially treated to prevent dirt from adhering to the surface, so dirt can be removed easily

using a dry cloth (use only the approved soft cloth). If the dirt does not come off easily, breathe on the surface and

try again.

Do not apply water or solvents to the soft cloth.

Clean the touchscreen while the wireless display is powered off

Cleaning the screen while the power is on may cause the wireless display to malfunction. Also, dirt on the

touchscreen is easier to see when the wireless display is powered off, and so is easier to clean.

Wash the soft cloth when it becomes dirty

When the soft cloth becomes dirty, wash it with mild detergent. Do not use bleach or fabric conditioner (softener),

or try to sterilize the cloth by boiling.

If the soft cloth is dirty, it may be ineffective in cleaning the touchscreen, and in fact may cause dirt to adhere to the

touchscreen.

Check the following to prevent the surface of the touchscreen from being scratched

Are you using a stylus to operate the touchscreen?

Is the surface clean?

Is the soft cloth clean?

Are you using the stylus with the tip extended?

Is the tip of the stylus clean?

A protective film can be used to protect the surface from scratches

If you think that the touchscreen will have to be operated while it is dirty, we recommend that you use a protective

film (available separately) to prevent the surface from being scratched.

If the touchscreen surface has already been scratched, the same protective film can be used to prevent the

scratches from becoming any deeper. The scratches will not be completely hidden, but they will be less notice-

able.

When the approved soft cloth or stylus is lost or damaged

The approved soft cloth and stylus are available as options.

Contact Panasonic Technical Support for details.

2. Maintaining the performance of the touchscreen

Important Touchscreen Tips

Do not touch the screen outside of the LCD display area

The touchscreen input area is defined by the LCD display screen. Touching the screen outside of the display area

may result in malfunctions or damage to the touchscreen.

Do not apply excessive force to the touchscreen

Do not lift the computer while holding the LCD screen, or allow the screen to be twisted. Do not place any objects

on the LCD screen. Any of the above may cause the touchscreen glass to break, or may damage the LCD screen.

Operation response may be slower in low temperature environments

The touchscreen may respond to operations more slowly when using the computer at temperatures less than

5°C, but this is not a malfunction. Response time will return to normal when the computer is returned to room

temperature.

If the cursor jumps to a location other than where the screen was touched, recalibrate

the touchscreen

Refer to the Operating Instructions of the wireless display for details on how to carry out the calibration.
