Auto-Darkening 2 Sensor Shade 10 Welding Helmet
Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction
activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive
harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead-based paints,
• Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
• Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of
work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area, and
work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are specially
designed to filter out microscopic particles.
Auto-darkening welding helmets
are designed to protect the eye
and face from sparks, spatter, and
harmful radiation under normal
welding conditions. Auto-darkening
filter automatically changes from a
light state to a dark state when an
arc is struck, and it returns to the
light state when welding stops.
Auto-darkening welding helmets
are ready for use. Before starting
to weld, adjust the position of the
headband and select the correct
shade number for your application.
Severe personal injury could occur if
the user fails to follow the mentioned
warnings, and/or fails to
follow the operating instructions.

Common Problems and Resolution
• Irregular Darkening/Dimming
Headband has been set unevenly, and there is an uneven distance from the eyes to the filter's lens.
Reset headband to reduce the distance to the filter.
• Auto-Darkening Filter Does Not Darken Or Flickers
1. Front lens plate is soiled or damaged. Change lens plate.
2. Sensors are soiled. Clean the surface of the sensor.
3. Welding current is too low. This model may not be adequate for the application; consider using
models PWH1000 or PWH2000.
• Slow Response
Operating temperature is too low. Do not use at temperatures below -10ºC or 14ºF).
• Poor Vision
1. Front/inside lens plate and/or filter lens are soiled. Change lens/clean filter lens.
2. There is insufficient ambient light.
• Welding Helmet Slips
Headband is not adjusted properly. Readjust headband.
Severe personal injury could occur if the user fails to follow the mentioned
warnings, and/or fails to follow the operating instructions.

•Be sure to read all safety warnings as well as instruction manuals before use of this helmet.
•This auto-darkening welding helmet is not suitable for laser welding & oxyacetylene welding/cutting processes.
•Never place this helmet and auto-darkening filter on a hot surface.
•Never open or tamper with the auto-darkening filter.
•This auto-darkening helmet does not provide protection against severe impact hazards, including grinding discs, explosive
devices and/or corrosive liquids. In the presence of these hazards, other protection must be used.
•Do not make modifications to either the filter or the helmet, unless specified in this manual. Do not use replacement
parts other than Matco replacement parts specified in this manual. Any unauthorized parts or modifications will void the
warranty and could expose the user to risk or personal injury.
•Wear ANSI approved safety goggles and ear protection at all times during use of this welding helmet. The lens is
breakable and does not provide complete protection from flying particles.
•Should this helmet not darken upon striking an arc, stop welding immediately and consult the owner’s manual,
supervisor, or your dealer.
•Do not use any solvents on screen or helmet components.
•Use between temperature range of -10 degrees C to +55 degrees C (14 degrees F to 131 degrees F).
•Storing temperature of -20 degrees C to +70 degrees C (-4 degrees F to 158 degrees F).
•Do not immerse helmet in water. To clean use a damp soft cloth only.
•Regularly inspect/replace front cover lens if cracks, scratches, or other damage occurs.
•Caution: During welding operation, dust containing chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects may be produced.
In order to reduce risk, adequate ventilation when welding is necessary and important.
•In order to reduce risk of personal injuries, inspect this helmet frequently and replace worn or damaged parts.

Before using the helmet for welding ensure you have read and understand the safety instructions.
Instructions For Use
• The helmet comes fully assembled. Before starting to weld, adjust the helmet to fit the user properly.
• Adjusting The Fit Of The Helmet
The overall circumference of the headband can be made larger or smaller by rotating the knob on the back of the
headband. ( See adjustment "Y" in fig. 1.) This can be done while wearing the helmet and allows just the right
tension to be set to keep the helmet firmly on the head without it being too tight.
• If the headband is riding too high or too low on your head, adjust the strap which passes over the top of your
head. To do this, release the end of the band by pushing the locking pin out of the hole in the band. Slide the two
portions of the band to a greater or lesser width as required and push the locking pin through the nearest hole.
(See adjustment "W" in fig. 1.)
• Test the fit of the headband by lifting up and closing down the helmet a few times while wearing it. If the
headband moves while tilting, readjust it until it is stable.
• Adjusting Distance Between Helmet And Face
Step 1: Undo the block nut (See"T" in fig. 1) to adjust the distance
between the helmet and your face in the down position. It is important
that your eyes are each the same distance from the lens. Otherwise
the darkening effect may appear uneven.
Step 2: Retighten the block nut when adjustment is complete.

As a rule of thumb, start with a shade that is too dark to see the weld zone. Then go to a lighter shade which gives sufficient view of the weld zone
without going below the minimum. In oxyfuel gas welding or cutting where the torch produces a high yellow light, it is desirable to use a filter lens that
absorbs the yellow or sodium line in the visible light of the (spectrum) operation.
***These values apply where the actual arc is clearly seen. Experience has shown that lighter filters may be used when the arc is hidden by the workpiece.
*Based on ANSI/ASC Z49.1, AWS F2.2-89. Shade numbers are given as a guide only and may be varied to suit application needs.
Consult your on-site training officer, industrial hygienist, or safety manager.
** Protection from optical radiation is directly related to filter lens density. Select the darkest shade that allows adequate task performance.

Maintenance
• Replacing Front Lens Plate. (See fig. 4)
Replace the front lens plate if it is damaged (cracked, scratched, soiled or pitted).
• Releasing The Shade Cartridge. (See fig. 5)
• Fitting New Cartridge. (See fig. 6)
• Cleaning
Clean helmet by wiping with a soft cloth. Clean cartridge surfaces regularly. Do not use strong cleaning
solutions. Clean sensors and solar cells with a damp clean cloth and wipe dry with a lint-free cloth.

LIMITED WARRANTY MODEL# PWH3000
Matco warrants these welding helmets for a period of 24 months from original purchase. We will replace any lens assembly only, that is covered under this
warranty, which proves to be defective in material or workmanship during the warranty period.
In order to have your lens assembly replaced, return the lens assembly only (PWH3LENS) to the Matco Authorized Warranty Center listed below, freight
prepaid. Please include your name, address, model number, and evidence of the purchase date, and description of the suspected defect. The lens assembly
will be inspected and if found to be defective in material or workmanship, it will be replaced free of charge and returned to you freight prepaid. This warranty
does not cover damage to the lens assembly; for example, cracked lenses or lenses covered with welding spatter, or damage arising from alteration, abuse,
or misuse, and does not cover any repairs or replacement made by anyone other than Matco or its authorized service center. The foregoing obligation is
Matco’s sole liability under this or any implied warranty and under no circumstances shall we be liable for any incidental or consequential damages.
Note: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state.

radiations novices dans des conditions
de soudage normales. Le filtre auto
obscurcissant change automatiquement
d’une teinte claire à une teinte foncée
lorsqu’un arc se produit et il revient
à une teinte claire lorsque la soudure
s’arrête.
Les casques de soudure auto
obscurcissant sont opérationnels.
Avant de débuter la soudure, ajustez
la position du bandeau et choisissez le
numéro de teinte approprié pour votre
application.
Des blessures graves pourraient

Certaines poussières produites par le sablage, le sciage, le meulage, le perçage et autres
activités de construction contiennent des produits chimiques qui peuvent causer le cancer,

• Silicium cristallin provenant des briques, du ciment et d’autres produits de maçonnerie et

ce type de travail. pour réduire l’exposition à ces expositions : travaillez dans un endroit
bien ventilé et travaillez avec l’équipement de sécurité approuvé comme les masques à

Problèmes Communs Et Résolution
• Obscurcissement/Gradation Irréguliers
Le bandeau de tête a été placé inégalement et il y a une distance inégale entre les yeux et la lentille du filtre.
(Réajustez le bandeau de tête pour réduire la distance au filtre.)
• Le filtre Auto Obscurcissant Ne S’Obscurcit Pas
1. La plaque de lentille avant est sale ou endommagée. Changez la plaque de la lentille.
2. Les capteurs sont sales. Nettoyez la surface des capteurs.
3. Le courant de soudure est trop bas. Ce modèle peut s’avérer être inadéquat pour l’application; considérez
utiliser les modèles PWH1000 ou PWH 2000.
• Réponse lente
La température de fonctionnement est trop basse. N’utilisez pas à des températures au-dessous
de -10oC ou de 14oF).
• Vision faible
1. Les plaques de la lentille intérieure/avant et/ou le filtre de la lentille sont sales.
Changez la lentille/nettoyez le filtre de la lentille.
2. Il y a une lumière ambiante insuffisante.
3. Le numéro de teinte n’est pas correctement réglé. Remettez le numéro de teinte à un numéro inférieur.
• Le casque de soudure glisse
Le bandeau de tête n’est pas ajusté correctement. Réajustez le bandeau de tête.

Des blessures graves pourraient se produire si l’utilisateur ne porte pas attention aux
avertissements mentionnés et/ou ne suit pas les consignes d’utilisation.
• Assurez-vous de lire tous les avertissements de sécurité aussi bien que les manuels d’instruction avant d’utiliser
ce casque.
• Ce casque de soudure auto obscurcissant n’est pas adéquat pour la soudure au laser et les processus de soudage/
découpage oxyacétyléniques.
• Ne placez jamais se casque et le filtre auto obscurcissant sur une surface chaude.
• Ne jamais ouvrir ou altérer le filtre auto obscurcissant.
• Ce casque auto obscurcissant n’offre pas un protection contre les dangers d’impact graves, y compris les meules, les
dispositifs explosifs et/ou les liquides corrosifs. En présence de ces dangers, d’autres protections doivent être utilisées.
• N’apportez aucunes modifications au filtre ou au casque, à moins que ce ne soit indiqué dans ce manuel. N’utilisez pas
de pièces de rechange autres que les pièces de rechange Matco indiquées dans ce manuel. Toutes pièces ou modifications
non autorisées annuleront la garantie et pourraient exposer l’utilisateur à des risques et des blessures.
• Portez des lunettes de sécurité approuvées par la norme ANSI et une protection auditive à tout moment pendant
l’utilisation de ce casque de soudage. La lentille est cassable et n’assure pas une protection complète contre des particules
volantes.
• Si ce casque ne s’obscurcis pas lors de l’amorçage d’un arc, cessez la soudure immédiatement et consultez le manuel du
propriétaire, le superviseur ou votre fournisseur.
• N’utilisez aucuns dissolvants sur les composantes de l’écran ou du casque.
• Utilisez dans un échelle de température se situant entre -10 degrés C à +55 degrés C (14 degrés F à 131 degrés F).
• Température d’entreposage entre -20 degrés C à +70 degrés C (-4 degrés F à 158 degrés F).
• N’immergez pas le casque dans l’eau. Pour nettoyer, utilisez uniquement un chiffon doux et humide.
• Inspectez régulièrement/remplacez le couvercle de la lentille avant si il y présence de fissures, éraflures ou tout autre
dommage.
• Prudence : Pendant l’opération de soudure, de la poussière contenant des produits chimiques reconnus pour causer le
cancer et des défauts de naissance peut être produite. Afin de réduire le risque, une ventilation adéquate est nécessaire et
importante.
• Afin de réduire le risque de blessures, inspectez ce casque fréquemment et remplacez les pièces usées ou
endommagées.
