The FCC Wants You to
Know
This CD player is made and tested to meet exacting safety
standards. It meets FCC requirements and complies with safety
performance standards of the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services.
Warnings:
• This CD player employs a laser light beam. Only a qualified
service person should remove the cover or attempt to ser-
vice this device, due to possible eye injury.
• The use of controls, adjustments, or procedures other than
those specified herein might result in hazardous radiation
exposure.
• You must use shielded interface cables with this equip-
ment.
This equipment complies with the limits for a Class B digital de-
vice as specified in Part 15 of
FCC Rules
. These limits provide
reasonable protection against radio and TV interference in a
residential area. However, your equipment might cause TV or
radio interference even when it is operating properly. To elimi-
nate interference, you can try one or more of the following cor-
rective measures:
• reorient or relocate the receiving antenna
• increase the distance between the equipment and the radio
or TV

• use outlets on different electrical circuits for the equipment
and the radio or TV

Features
Your RadioShack Portable CD Player uses the latest digital au-
dio technology to deliver the clean, crisp sound of compact
discs. You can use optional stereo earphones for portable, pri-
vate listening or, you can connect the CD player to your home
audio or auto-sound system using an optional adapter.
Auto Power Off — automatically turns the CD player off 30
seconds after it finishes playing to help preserve battery life.
Eight-Times Over-sampling with Digital Filtering — im-
proves the CD’s sound by multiplying the standard 44.1kHz
sample rate by eight and using a digital filter to reduce or elimi-
nate distortion.
Eight-Hour Battery Life — you can play your CD player for up
to 8 hours on just two AA alkaline batteries (with the anti-shock
feature turned off).
Important: You need a pair of stereo headphones, earphones,
or amplified speakers to use your CD player. Your local
RadioShack store carries a complete line of headphones, ear-
phones, and speakers.
Note: Look for this marking to find CDs that can be
played on this CD player.

Preparation
The CD player’s advanced technology makes it simple to oper-
ate. However, be sure you read this Owner’s Manual complete-
ly so you can take advantage of all its advanced features.
Preparation
USING BATTERIES
Your CD player can use two AA batteries (not supplied) for
power. For the best performance and longest life, we recom-
mend RadioShack alkaline batteries.
You can also use rechargeable Ni-Cd batteries to power your
CD player.
Warning: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do
not burn or bury them.
Cautions:
• Use only fresh (or freshly charged) batteries of the required
size and recommended type.
• Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batter-
ies (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable
batteries of different capacities.
• If you do not plan to use the CD player with batteries for a
month or longer, or if you plan to use only AC or DC power,
remove the batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can
destroy electronic parts.

Note: Before you use the CD player with Ni-Cd batteries, you
need to charge them in an external battery charger (available at
your local RadioShack store).
1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the
arrow to remove it.
2. Place the batteries in the compartment, on top of the
attached ribbon, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+
and –) marked inside.
3. Replace the cover.
When flashes, the sound becomes weak or distorted, or
the CD player stops operating properly, replace the batteries.
Important: The EPA certified RBRC®Battery Re-
cycling Seal on the nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) bat-
tery indicates RadioShack is voluntarily
participating in an industry program to collect and
recycle these batteries at the end of their useful
life, when taken out of service in the United States or Canada.
The RBRC program provides a convenient alternative to placing
used Ni-Cd batteries into the trash or the municipal waste
stream, which may be illegal in your area. Please call 1-800-
THE-SHACK (1-800-843-7422) for information on Ni-Cd battery
recycling and disposal bans/restrictions in your area.
RadioShack’s involvement in this program is part of the compa-
ny’s commitment to preserving our environment and conserving
our natural resources.

Preparation
USING AC OR DC POWER
To power the CD player from an AC outlet or your vehicle’s bat-
tery power, you need an AC or DC adapter and a size B
Adaptaplug(neither supplied, available at your local
RadioShack store).
Cautions:
You must use a (Class 2 for AC) power source
that supplies 4.5V DC and delivers at least 600
mA. Its center tip must be set to positive and its
plug must fit the CD player's DC IN 4.5V jack. Using an
adapter that does not meet these specifications could dam-
age the CD player or the adapter.
• Always connect the adapter to the CD player before you
plug it into the power source, and unplug the adapter from
the power source before you unplug it from the CD player.
1. If necessary, set the adapter’s voltage switch to 4.5V.
2. Attach the Adaptaplug to the adapter’s cord with the tip set
to positive (+).
3. Insert the barrel plug into the recorder’s DC IN 4.5V jack.
This disconnects the internal batteries.
4. Plug the other end of the adapter into the power source.
Note: If the CD player does not operate when you use the DC
adapter, unplug the cord from the cigarette-lighter socket and
clean any ashes or debris from the socket.

CONNECTING EARPHONES OR
HEADPHONES
For private listening, connect optional stereo earphones or
headphones with a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) plug to the PHONES jack on
the CD player.
Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use
earphones or headphones.
• Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin lis-
tening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a
comfortable level.
• Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended
high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time,
your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that
does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.
Traffic Safety
Do not wear earphones or headphones while operating a motor
vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and
could be illegal in some areas.
Even though some earphones and headphones let you hear
some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels,
they still can present a traffic hazard.

CONNECTING AMPLIFIED SPEAKERS
You can also listen to your CD player through amplified speak-
ers. Plug the speaker cable’s 1/8-inch (3.5-mm) plug into the CD
player’s PHONES jack.

LOADING A CD
Caution: To help prevent dust from entering the CD player, al-
ways keep the CD compartment cover closed except when
loading or unloading CDs.
1. Press OPEN and lift the CD compartment cover.
2. Remove the protective sheet from inside the CD compart-
ment.
3. Carefully place a CD, label side up, over the center hub
inside the CD compartment, and press the CD down onto
the hub.
4. Close the cover.
Note: To remove a CD, lift up the CD while pressing the
center hub’s button.
SUPER ANTI-SHOCK SYSTEM (SAS)
Your CD player contains a special circuit to overcome sound
skipping problems caused by shock or vibration. This means

you can carry the CD player anywhere you go, or use it in your
vehicle. When you turn on the anti-shock system, the CD player
continuously saves 10 seconds of music in its memory. During
a shock or vibration that would normally make a track skip or
pause, the CD player plays directly from memory.
The CD player is preset to turn on the anti-shock system when it
starts up. Repeatedly press SAS to turn anti-shock on or off.
(the anti-shock icon) appears when anti-shock is on.
Notes:
• The CD player consumes additional battery power when
you use the anti-shock system. When you use the CD
player in a stable location, turn off SAS to save battery
power.
• When you press SAS to turn anti-shock on or off, the CD
player’s sound cuts out for about 2 seconds.
AUTOMATIC SEARCH MUSIC SYSTEM
(ASMS)
You can use ASMS to quickly locate any track on a CD.
While the CD is stopped
, repeatedly press or to move
backward or forward to the desired track. Press to play the
desired track.
During play,
press to return to the beginning of the current
track. Press twice to return to the beginning of the previous
track. To move to the beginning of the next track, press .
